indian_summer22 (4 months ago) #38589582Of course you can. And what may be a fig with an interesting concept to me, may simply be pretty to someone else. As I said, art is what you want it to be. Most figs I have are simply 'pretty' by those standards. But I would not use the term art for them ( do I do not deny the immense skills of the sculptors and painters etc involved in creating them). It may still be 'art' to you however. Its all about the concept of the term you subscribe to.
I see. I do consider figures as art, so that's where our thoughts differ. Thank you for clearing that up.

indian_summer22 (4 months ago) #38589744And why do you decide what is and isnt rude? I adressed the poster and she/he seemed okay with it. If you find it rude, fine. But the poster is a person able to decide for him or herself.
Secondly, criticism is part of the deal. I worded it in a friendly a manner and the poster commented. How she/ he handles it, or even ignores it, is up to the poster, not you.
I wish you a good night/ day.
if they decided not to take your rude comment in a rude way that's fine but your comment was definitely rude ,instead of getting defensive maybe you could just own that. Also saying somebody's art is not artistic is not constructive criticism it's just a rude statement.

OceanRoost (4 months ago) #38589556Just because it's your opinion doesn't mean that opinion isn't rude. It seems like you still need to do some learning to be able to understand this.

tundras (4 months ago) #38584922Couldn't you say that many figures are aesthetics-only? I mention this because I wonder whether or not you solely collect figures that hit both conceptions.

indian_summer22 (4 months ago) #38589503I ended the comment with "imo". It seems you have not fully grasped the concept of an opinion. If I find sth not artistic, its an opinion not rude. I have not in any way insulted the artist ( I even said that her/ his skill is better than mine). If you cannot grasp the idea of 'art' or 'opinion', you might want to read up on those. Just because it's your opinion doesn't mean that opinion isn't rude. It seems like you still need to do some learning to be able to understand this.

OceanRoost (4 months ago) #38572278Telling me not to be rude when you told this person her art had nothing artistic about it seems a little hypocritical.

indian_summer22 (4 months ago) #38564631I believe there are two basic conceptions: art as an aethetic and art as an idea. You obviously subscribe to the first. I believe both should be combined. Thus a picture that is merely pretty is not interesting to me. I can look at it for a moment, say 'oh it looks nice" and thats it. It doesnt give me anything beyond that.

As for people discussing legal matters!
I previously wrote a short article about a possible fanmade buy/sell/trade club that I still haven't written to a mod about b/c fanart is a grey legal area. Thing is, convention centers don't really care, and neither do a lot companies. It is ultimately the artists who would get in trouble, but I haven't heard of this happening much.
Dan Salvato said, regarding DDLC, selling fan work is fine as long as you create them yourself (in this case, find your own printer & keep the stock yourself) and don't sell through sites like redbubble, society6, etc. Of course, these exist anyway and I don't know how much of an effort he actually makes to pull them from websites, but that is his statement.
Your art is lovely though!! I'd definitely be interested~
ALSO I've been buying from tictail recently because it seems a lot of artists are using that these days? But I've bought from storenvy as well, and (less often) etsy.

Store envy sounds like a good store! lots of artists are using this site > v <)/ I'm researching to see how's the monthly fee work (cuz i'm cheap as heck jk :))))
but thank you very much for your comment
