Mika & Yuu Custom Nendoroids

So, once again I have tried to make some custom nendoroids. The other nendoroid I made of Shigaraki from BnHA was mainly just re-painting and sculpting a hand onto a faceplate. These two required me to do a lot more which is why I've actually taken more pictures. (not many because I'm terrible when it comes to taking step by step pictures. I get way too invested into what I'm doing -.-)

So first I'll talk about the nendoroid pieces I have used and what material I used to sculpt.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/AshuriiKareshi1538085425.jpeg

The bodies I have used are from the Nendoroid more suit sets. More specifically ITEM #557439 and ITEM #562340. I chose these mainly because I bought the set of suits but never planned to use these two. I tried selling them but nobody else wanted them, so I turned them into somthing else. I removed the skirts and switched the arms because I planned to use the first one for Yuu and the second one for Mika.

For the hair I have used both hair pieces from Todomatsus nendoroid (ITEM #396866). Again I used these because I used todomatsus body for my custom shigaraki nendoroid. I used the plain hair for Yuu and the hat piece for Mika.

As you can see a lot of sculpting will be involved.

The material I used for sculpting was Milliput white. The white version is good for deatil as it's finer then the original version.

All you have to do is take a bit of each of the putties and mix them together. Once it's properally mixed it'll slowly start to harden (normally takes around 6 hours to fully harden). The results are really sturdy and hard. You can also sand down and file the hardened material which makes it easier to achieve a nice result.

Here are my babies. Now I'll talk about how I'll customise them.

I basically need to change everything, there's a lot of sculpting involved but it was a nice challenge. I find it a lot more fun to customise a figure that requires a lot of work done. But on to the figure now, first I'll start with the hair.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/AshuriiKareshi1538085429.jpeg

I started by creating a base for the front hair piece because it'll be hard to sculpt when there isn't a hard surface underneath. The good thing about the front hair pieces is that there is a lot of room to work with. The osomatsu brother hair pieces end quite far up when using a normal faceplate. I also started at bottom of the back hair piece and started making my way up.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/AshuriiKareshi1538085444.jpeg

I now started adding the detail. I'm really proud of how the from hair pieces turned out but the back hair pieces was a bit of a nightmare. The back hair pieces were really difficult to get right and in the end still didn't look right. I decided not to worry too much about it as it's only the back and I don't really plan to look at it too much.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/AshuriiKareshi1538158317.jpeg

The bodies are fairly simple. I just needed to make sure that the chest was flat and extend the body so it looks like they have tiny skirts. I did think about using the skirts the bodies came with but they were a bit too long. I added as much detail as I thought was necessary as some detail (such as buttons) I'll just paint on.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/AshuriiKareshi1538158357.jpeg

This was taken before I finished the hair but as you can see they are slowly getting there. The heads do look a little big but at some point in the future I could make a cape for them both which should solve this issue.

I also needed to change both their legs, which you can't see very well here because I already had a go at painting them. I had to make them both look like they are wearing boots as Mika wears thigh high boots and Yuu wears knee high boots. For yuus I got a little bit of milliput to circle around the leg where his boots would end, then I just blended it in. For Mikas I just turned the entire leg into a boot, then I would paint the leg joint white so it looks like the top of his trousers. On both I also had to fill in the where the shoes original shoes ended so there isn't a little gap anymore.

These are the painted bodies and just incase you are interested in knowing, I use Tamiya acrylic paints.

The bodies do look a bit messy in the photos but they actually look better in person. I'm actually really happy how they turned out as they could have ended up a lot worse. To do the tiny bits of detail such as the buttons, stripes etc I used a cocktail stick to paint. The thinest paint brush I have was still too thick so I had to improvise.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/AshuriiKareshi1538211577.jpeg

Here is a picture of the hair and body together after being painted and sprayed with a matt coating. I could have put a substitute faceplate in but I wanted to see how the colours and paint job looked. I think they actually look quite nice to say I'm no expert at this. I think it's an improvement from the last custom Mika I made.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/AshuriiKareshi1538584418.jpeg

I also took a picture of what the back of them looks like as I was worried the hair would look terrible. Because you can't really see the bottom of the back hair pieces they actually look pretty decent, still not perfect but better than what they looked like unpainted.

For the faceplates I did order some from GSC faceplate maker, but when I put them on that looks incredibly derpy. I plan to do a loot blog soon so I will show the faceplates in there. I have decided to use 2 faceplates from nendoroids I own which have their eyes closed instead of the customised faceplates.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/AshuriiKareshi1538723379.jpeg

Yuus faceplate is from Nishinoyas nendoroid and Mikas is from Cheer Mikazuki. Hopefully in the future I'll be able to find better faceplates that fit but for now these ones work pretty well.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/AshuriiKareshi1541322647.jpeg

Now my two boys are complete and are ready to go on my Owari no Seraph self.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/AshuriiKareshi1538723369.jpeg

I know that they are far from perfect but I had a lot of fun making them. I'm also proud of them because I managed to turn 2 female nendoroid suits and todomatsus hair pieces into 2 characters I adore.

I'll continue to make custom nendoroids so hopefully my skills will improve with more practise. I'll probably end up doing as many characters as I can from OnS but I also want to try and make the characters from Aoharu x Kikanjuu and ghoul Takizawa from Tokyo Ghoul RE.

I love Owari no Seraph, Guren is my fav though I’m way behind with manga. xD It’s strange that GSC/OR didn’t end up making Mika and Yuu (at least). (´°̥̥̥̥̥̥̥̥ω°̥̥̥̥̥̥̥̥`)

Thank you so much and yayyyyyy, someone else who loves OnS XD I've been obsessed with the series for almost 4 years now >> Shinya is my favourite, I kind of have a thing for mom like characters.
I hope if they ever make another season (I think someone predicted that the earliest it could be will be 2020) that GSC will pick up the licensing ;-;

But I'm more surprised that no one made a figure of Krul. I thought some companies would have jumped at the chance to make a loli vampire (I would have seriously loved a figure of Krul as well ;-;)

they look so close to being official!!

I wouldn't go that far XD but thank you so much!!!!

Ameko-chan (5 months ago) #41384253They look fantastic!:) I really wish there were official Mika & Yuu Nendoroids or proper looking scales. Well, your Nendorois look way better than the existing scales.

Thank you so much XD
As much as I love the OnS statues (probably because they're the only proper figures out there) they do look... not so good -.- I hope one day a better company will pick up the series.

AshuriiKareshi (5 months ago) #41345028Thank you so much. And I know how you feel. I had a lot of days where I really didn't want to sculpt but then I had other days where all I wanted to do was sculpt XD Also you neeeeeeeeeeeed to continue with your projects, I still check the blog section everyday so I don't miss yours.
And I did try it with a thin bit oh plastic (not quite cling film but close enough). I used it to cover a faceplate while I did the front of the hair (to make sure the bangs aren't too far in or out). And it worked really well for this, nothing got on the faceplate and the putty didn't stick to the plastic. But I guess one way to make sure it doesn't stick is when the putty has hardened a bit (just enough that it keeps it shape) you can remove the plastic and then put it back on again. Just to make sure it definitely won't stick.

Ah, well maybe I'll start on it this weekend then. So glad to hear the plastic thing worked out well too, as I want to make sure the hair falls correctly and fits nicely, but not ruin the face underneath!! LOL, so good to know I have options! :D

I'll definitely let you know when I get my blog out there with the finished product (like I said before, even if it's so awful I just share it for laughs...I'll share either way!!). Again though, fantastic job on the Owari nendo's ....Yuu and Mika look ADORABLE!!! You did GREAT!!! :D

Stacycmc (5 months ago) #41342453They turned out sooo cute!!! Great job!! Thanks so much for sharing, it inspires me to get off my rear and work on some of my projects, but I've honestly been avoiding it due to the sculpt work that's needed...I just worry it will turn out horrid, LOL. But seeing how great your pieces looks makes me want to finish, so thanks!!
Love it so much!!
By the way...did you use the saran wrap trick to do the hair? So you could sculpt it on the face without getting the putty on the other parts??? i was curious if that worked as I will need to do something like that on my custom figure.
Thanks again....and once more, fantastic job!!
