Doll Collector Club!Doll Collector Club!

dollbyndollbyn2 months agoMisc
It's kind of hard to find a place to talk about the dolls on the database. The active ones I did come across were more for buying/selling dolls and didn't have much discussion, or I didn't care for the layout used in the groups. Not only that, but most communities only focus on one company or type of doll which can limit what can be talked about and shared. It seems like such a shame with such a broad range of collectors who enjoy different kinds of dolls.

So, I figured the solution to this problem would be to open a Doll Collectors club! CLUB #1782

I want this to be a forum where people can share information and discuss their favorite brands along with sharing their own collections. Eventually, I hope this community will be a source of valuable resources for new and old collectors alike and we can support one another in this niche of collecting.

What dolls will be allowed?
Many dolls within the database will be welcome. This includes Pullip, Pureneemo, Momoko, Misaki, Blythe, Licca-chan and more! However, we will exclude discussion of resin BJDs and any dolls which are erotic (such as Real Art Project line of dolls) which would be over the preferred rating of the board.

Why are you excluding resin BJDs?
Originally, I was going to include resin BJDs on a limited basis, but as I thought about it, I found it more preferable to cut them out entirely for a few reasons. One reason is that BJD-focused content already exists in droves, including communities, news sites, web resources, you name it. It would be redundant to have another place to discuss them. The other major reason is the rising prevalence of BJD recast/bootleg dolls in the last decade and I would rather skip out on the drama.

So no BJDs at all?!
The keyword here is "resin". I will be allowing any BJD dolls made of soft vinyl, like Dollfie Dreams and Smart Doll.

The only way resin BJDs will be allowed will be if they are accompanied by an "on-topic" doll in the thread where we share our collections with one another.

What is the board rating?
I like to think it's a lax PG, sort of like how it was in the 80s. Some cursing can fly through and a little bit of adult content and humor can squeak in, but it's still a lot more reined in than PG-13.

Any and all questions, comments, and advice are welcome!

dollbyn (2 months ago) #51766583Thank you for joining! I actually began my doll hobby jumping into the world of resin bjds! It can get complicated with all the different sizes available for clothes, wigs, eyes, etc. I have been interested in Smart Doll but I am still waiting for the Pocket Doll they teased a while back, which is 1/6 size. BJDs are a treat to own, if you love detail and customizing your dolls, they are definitely a great choice!
The first dolls that makes me interested where Dollfie's. Then there followed a blog of a doll with the name Penny and that's where i found out that there are a lot of BJD company's with interesting designs. The way you can customize them to your own taste is one of the reasons why i like them. I did consider a smart doll as well but i really want to know how the moving parts work and how sensitive they are by the movement of the doll. The skeleton part is a smart part of those dolls. I never heard of the pocket doll but the images of them makes me interested. Now that i see that it is made by Danny Choo i recognize his style in it. He is an interesting person when it comes to making doll prototype designs. He has lastly posted a video of a smart doll where he build in some working robotic parts. Also his daring Centipede girl (wonfes 2011) is a prototype i really like (hoping both will come available at some point). I agree with the difficulty of finding clothes that fit the doll. With so many body types it is hard to find the fitting clothes. About the doll stands i have a lot of questions but i have to see the dolls first before i can even ask something about it. I also thought about making some wooden chairs for them when they arrived. What i notice is that every person has his/her own creative thing with customizing dolls. There are people that do face-ups, some are photographers, others are good with making clothes and there are even some that are making full tattoos for them. I like that creative part of the doll hobby.

Rajke (2 months ago) #51764926Joined this club. :D BJD’s are somewhat new to me. I have my first Pureneemo preordered and another off topic BJD. I have spend almost one year to learn the basics about them and it is still difficult in comparison with figures. (Body types, outfit, intern skeleton or elastic, face ups, wigs and so on) I am looking forward to both BJD’s. There are lots of lovely foto’s of them but i must admit that i haven’t seen a BJD in real life. Soon i will know.
