December/January Haul!

For this haul I'm going to try a different style where I just present my honest thoughts on the figures rather than writing this like a review. Please let me know what you like and dislike about this style as well as any tips on what you personally look for when reading these haul articles. Also getting a nicer camera is in the works :P

As always I appreciate any feedback, enjoy!

This month I picked up a bunch of really nice quality items :)

No. 1: 1/7 scale Koneko Toujou by BellFine

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/NyxLuna1550036757.jpeg

This is my favorite figure in the haul and also my favorite koneko figure. The new animation style of dxd translates extremely well to the figure design, it looks cleaner and more vibrant than the other dxd figures. My only complaint is the "base" because I dislike having to fold the rug in half to make it fit in a reasonably sized space. It makes the rug look cheap, but its not very noticeable and won't be an issue once I'm able to make more space (still WIP).

No 2. 1/7 scale Atsuko Kagari by Chara-Ani

Ako looks even better than expected with her dynamic pose and wonderful sculpting. Her skin is a bit pale, but everything else is spot on. She is an excellent addition to my shelf.

Time for the nedoroids!

No. 1 Nanachi by GSC

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/NyxLuna1550037098.jpeg

My favorite part of Nanachi is just the sheer size compared to my other nendoroids :) The big helmet and tall ears accentuate her cute, petite features which is the strongest point in a nendoroid.

No 2. Izuku Midoriya by GSC

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/NyxLuna1550037144.jpeg

GSC did an excellent job scuplting his hair, which is the most difficult and important part in a deku figure imo. I wish he came with some green electricity that we see when he use full cowling, but everything he does come with looks great. The comic book text plate is my favorite prop ever!!

No. 3 Katsuki Bakugo by GSC

What's not to love about Bakugo? His crazed look was captured perfectly too.

No. 4/5 Diana Cavendish/Atsuko Kagari by GSC

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/NyxLuna1550037435.jpeg

Best girl Diana finally gets her due! I wish I had the GSC exclusive teddy bear, but i could bring myself to spend the extra money just for that prop :/ Just like the other LWA nendoroids its almost impossible to decide on a pose since everything is so fin and lives up to the excitement of the series.

As for Ako, GSC captures her bubbly, boisterous nature in all her poses and props, she is definitely my favorite nendoroid from the series.

My final item was Hobby Stock's replica of Shima Rin's scarf from Yuru Camp.

Rin is not only my favorite character from my favorite slice of life type series, but this scarf is incredibly well made and warm! Since it's the middle of winter in New York I never leave the house without it :)

Final thoughts and goals for the future:

I am quite impressed with the quality of everything I received these past two months, definitely my best haul in a while. Going into the new year the first few months are packed with orders leftover from my PO frenzy of 2018. I regret a few of the orders and will likely resell them later despite them being nice figures. My collecting has definitely slowed down as I had hoped; in terms of po's the second half of the year is pretty clear. There are several items which I know a will be buying later this year once they are released, but everything I have planned will be staying within budget quite well this time around :)
I am also going to work on collecting some more replicas from ValyranSteel who create weapons and armor from Game of Thrones and ASoIaF.

Focusing less on my collection I have a few new goals I am currently working on. First is studying Japanese! I've always been interested in japan even before I knew what anime was. Right now I am working my way through the levels on WaniKani, which is a great vocab website. Someday I will for sure be travelling to Japan regardless, I also would love to do some translating work if possible, but that is pretty far down the line atm :P

Goal number two is reading more. I would like to expand on my manga and try out some new series. I've recently discovered a love from fantasy anime despite being opposed to them for so long (which was just me being stubborn I think). My most recent favorites were Goblin Slayer and Dan Machi. I also have to finish Fire and Blood by GRRM.

Goal three is planning my next convention trip. AnimeNYC was a blast and I would like to try and attend a convention at least once per year as well as put together a new cosplay once in a while. My AnimeNYC cosplay was a genderbent Chise Hatori from Mahoutsukai no Yome. I was surprised how many people came up to me to ask for pictures and how friendly everyone was about it despite my lack of confidence in my appearance. It was easily one of my best experiences and was very encouraging. Most of my favorite anime characters tend to be female so I found it a bit difficult to find something I can easily genderbend, but Chise is a bit of a tomboy already. I also want to try and use contacts, but I have a really hard time with stuff getting near my eyes. Glasses kind of ruin the look, but maybe I can find a character that wears glasses? We'll see how it goes, I'm just playing it by ear at this point :P

Goal four is to get more involved in the community. I will keep writing about my monthly hauls and I would like to try writing about some other things as well, like what figures I plan to buy or different ways of displaying my collection. Right now the idea is to put myself out there and to share what I'm up to. This is something I am incorporating into other areas in my life as well, I've been getting inspired to reach out and take advantage of experiencing new things. For example I recently had the opportunity to see the musical cats (for free thanks to a friend), and despite not usually liking musicals (or cats since I'm allergic lol) I decided to give it a shot. I didn't really enjoy it, but I'm glad I went. It gave me a chance to spend more time with my mom if nothing else :P

Thanks so much for reading!
As always have a great rest of your day :3

NyxLuna (4 months ago) #51342370Indeed, from now on I am planning spring trips. AnimeNYC was really fun though, so I think I'll make the exception to attend it still :)

NyxLuna (4 months ago) #51321995AnimeNYC was a blast, next time I am taking the train through, we had to drive 400 miles through the snow. A 7 hour trip turned into a 12 hour one xD

I like the light novels a lot. And the anime only covered books 1-3 and then the movie covered book 6
So theres a lot of content not covered and it was really good.

That's what I've been hearing so I'm really excited to read more of the story and see the rest of the world =D I'll be sure to let you know what I think in my next post.
