Dream Come True - Tokishiba-sensei and WonFes 2019 WinterDream Come True - Tokishiba-sensei and WonFes 2019 WinterDiary

SkyBlueSkyBlue1 year ago
Hello, MFC~❤

I recently made one of the biggest decision in my life; I went on a short trip to Tokyo from 07/02/2019 to 11/02/2019 on my own. Yes, alone. Travelling thousands of miles away from home by myself for the very first time.

How did I get myself into this?Hide meWell, some of you guys may recall how I've always wanted to go to one of them fan meeting real signing event and the closest I ever got was Ikuyasu-sensei's signing event at Animate Sendai last July which I didn't make it but Animate was kind enough to send us the event souvenirs. No signed books tho as we have bought the books prior to the event.

I've no luck in winning any lottery based web-signing books and don't even get me started on those first-come-first-served web-signed books. Guess trying to compete with all the overzealous BL fans in Japan was a futile effort...until recently.

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Dy7PmQSUUAAVSCr.jpg

I never fail to try for each lottery that involves my favourite mangaka but almost everytime, I'll receive their apologetic emails saying I didn't make the cut. As I was checking the lottery results for Tokishiba-sensei's signing event, I even let out a sigh "Imma draw a losing ticket again..." nonchalantly I scrolled and then I saw the words "当選". Tousen? Tousen as in I won?! I stifled a scream as I cannot believe my eyes!! I'VE FINALLY WON!!!

After the rush of adrenaline have subsided, a sudden realisation dawned upon me: Am I ready for this? I have never travelled on my own before and I was anxious thinking of all the worst possible outcomes and then there's my anxiety as well as my fears (mysophobia, aviophobia, enochlophobia etc.)

I thought long and hard about it (made my insomnia worse) and decided that this has to happen otherwise I might regret it for the rest of my life. Convincing my parents wasn't easy and I even got sick (which nearly made me believe that maybe this trip wasn't meant to be) but in the end, I pushed on. Everything happens for a reason and perhaps this is my chance for me to face my fears.

Tbh it didn't feel real, not even after going through the security checks, immigration clearance or boarding the plane. I arrived at Haneda Airport slightly ahead of schedule and immediately made my way to the hotel near Kanda Station. Although I've informed the hotel regarding my estimated time of arrival, immigration clearance took longer than I thought and I barely managed to check-in around midnight.

A new day, a new start. First stop, ComiComi Studio Machida. I deliberately walked to Akihabara Station instead of Kanda Station as I wanted to check out the place where the signing event will be held tomorrow. Shosen Book Tower is just a couple of blocks away from Yodobashi Camera and stands majestically with their glistening blue-tinted glass windows that are more than nine floors high. It was still too early for their opening hours but I can't help feeling super excited for tomorrow!

Ah, it feels so good to be here again. Things have changed a little like there are now more display cabinets showcasing signed memorabilia from previous collaboration cafés:

Menu orders were no longer done over the counter but via the automated machine in front of solid & liquid Book Café.

In fact, today was the first day of Café BaaL Cross but it was too early for pizza or desserts so I just went with a Gratte and some icing cookies from NIGHTS BEFORE NIGHT Natsume Kazki X Gratte.

Gratte is actually Graphic Latte which is basically art printed on cream.
Honestly, this is my first time seeing it in-person. I picked my favourite illustration and it's amazing how accurate the colours are printed. Almost too beautiful to drink like I don't want to ruin it!

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2019/02/27/2164407.jpeg

*sobs* I just missed Owal-sensei's Gallery&Café Cutie Café. I soooo wanted to try their menu...

ComiComi Studio is a treasure trove for signed posters, illustrations, shikishi etc. like literally every corner is filled to the brim and I had fun spotting my favourite mangaka among them:

There were plenty of comics fair from several publishers and since Sankosha’s Charles Comics Geki Oshi Sakuhin Fair was still ongoing, I decided to get Bara to Hedoro as I've been very intrigued by the cover. It’s beautiful but at the same time, there’s that dark vibe that just captivates me somehow…

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2019/02/27/2164413.jpeg

Their doujinshi section may not be as extensive as animate or Toranoana, but they do have some pretty neat selections. While I’m at it, I picked up Indigo Blue no Gradation 4.5.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2019/02/27/2164414.jpeg

Thanks to this poster, I remembered that I need to get Yagi to Ookami no Hatsujou Jijou for their lovely bonus clear file. Oh, how I wish it was bigger! My only gripe with ComiComi Studio bonus clear files is the size like they always have such stunning illustrations but A6 is a tad too small…

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2019/02/27/2164415.jpeg

I actually considered getting this cute musette bag but I rarely use one so I ended up getting Liquor & Cigarette's clear file instead.

I was heading towards Ikebukuro next but since I'm in Shinjuku anyway, let's head over to ARTNIA! As expected, the place was completely decked out in conjunction with the recently released Kingdom Hearts III. I'd love to get all the goodies but I'm poor af and there are very limited space left in my luggage...

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2019/02/27/2164419.jpeg

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2019/02/27/2164420.jpeg

This. I've never debated over a figure for such a long time before. While I would love to have him, his steep price + shipping is a hard pill to swallow for me... I've seen some video reviews of him but now that I've seen it with my own eyes; Cloud made my heart skipped a beat with his sheer presence. He is MAGNIFICENTLY HUGE AND SIMPLY GORGEOUS! That's it, I'm gonna get him for sure!!

Next, the holy ground for all fujoshis and fudanshis; Ikebukuro~! During my last trip, P’Parco wasn't open yet and I didn't get to visit so I'm excited to see what they have in store.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2019/02/27/2164425.jpeg

If I were asked where is the happiest place on Earth, pretty sure my answer will be here:

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2019/02/27/2164426.jpeg

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2019/02/27/2164428.jpeg

Kingdom Hearts III is everywhere, literally. Almost every store I went, they be selling Kingdom Hearts related goodies and playing the game's theme song:

Ah, I love this song~ It gave me the strength to take the first step in this journey so hearing this song wherever I go kinda strengthens my resolve to grow and discover myself by stepping out of my comfort zone.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2019/02/27/2164429.jpeg

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2019/02/27/2164430.jpeg

The first thing that caught my eye was Shima's oppai! I remembered Ikuyasu-sensei urging fans to visit and "fondle" Shima which I'd be more than happy to oblige.

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Dy4v1sgVAAIu7Lk.jpg

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Dy4v_1CU8AEgB17.jpg

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Dy4v7cdVAAIefVX.jpg
They were ever so kind to even cut two holes for fans to make "direct" contact.
It was very interesting seeing how others responded to Shima. Many touched him very shyly, some poked while giggling, a lady looked at it apprehensively from afar but the best reaction came from a couple when the boyfriend touched it "Oh, it's soft." Cheers for more open-minded boyfriends!

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2019/02/27/2164432.jpeg
No idea who this guy is, but damn he looks so cool!
Next, Toranoana and K-Books! The layout at K-Books Doujin-Kan changed where BL goods are now by the entrance floor and doujinshi are up the stairs.

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Dy4m4r_UYAUqcOs.jpg
Haru-san was voted as the best uke for Kono BL ga Yabai! Haru-san truly deserves all the love in the world~
It's funny how that DMMd 5400 JPY can badge is still there since my last visit. I was hoping to find this shikishi since my proxy "lost" it but they didn't have it. Welp, at least I found Owal-sensei's can badge that I was missing to complete the set and I got another two can badges.

FINALLY, TODAY IS THE BIG DAY~!!
❤ (((o(*゚▽゚*)o))) ❤
The day I can meet one of my favourite mangaka, Tokishiba-sensei~!!
https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DzA_OMhV4AE7pRk.jpg

It was snowing very lightly in the morning when I left my hotel and as it was still early, I headed towards Akihabara's Toranoana. There is a no-photo policy inside their store but the stairwell is fine.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2019/03/03/2166428.jpeg

I've placed my pre-orders with Animate already but I couldn't resist buying another copy of Momichupa OppubTime for their 4P leaflet. That and I'm dying to know what's gonna happen between Yama and Shima in the second volume. I just love her works so much. As I stepped out of the store, I was shocked to see that it was snowing heavily!

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2019/03/03/2166508.jpeg

I hurridedly walked back to Shosen Book Tower lest my small gift that I prepared for sensei got wet.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2019/03/03/2166429.jpeg
I still can't believe I won the lottery ticket to meet Tokishiba-sensei~!
Truth be told I was extremely nervous but thanks to the kind staffs who made small talk, I slowly became more comfortable. Everything was very organised and it was such a unique experience to meet other fans of sensei's work.

The signing event was to commemorate the release of Tokishiba-sensei's Yagi to Ookami no Hatsujou Jijou and the event space was beautifully decorated with lovely illustrations, character sketches, manuscripts, adorable chibi-chara and life-size cut-outs, balloons as well as flowers.

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Dy9TVVtUUAEy38z.jpg
Fans can actually take photos with the life-size cut-outs but we were simply too shy...
When it was finally time for the signing event to begin, my heart started beating really fast. I was already so excited just hearing Tokishiba-sensei's cheerful voice from behind the screen. The screen partition really works for both creator and fans. Not only sensei can have her privacy protected, fans can have a very personal one-on-one interaction with her.

I had a lot I wanted to tell sensei but when it was my turn, my mind went completely blank. Words cannot describe what I felt at that moment. I was awestruck. Feeling so grateful, nervous and ecstatic, I stammered and with trembling hands, I held out my small gift to her assistant because I thought we weren't allowed to have direct contact with sensei. Her assistant kindly gestured that it's fine to hand it to sensei directly.

Meeting with Tokishiba-sensei is the most wonderful miracle that has ever happened. She is amazingly beautiful and very friendly. Both sensei and her assistant were delighted and amazed that there are fans from overseas who came to Tokyo just for this signing event.

After thanking both of them, I made my way to the exit as another sweet staff gave me some souvenirs. The snow has stopped and I immediately went back to my hotel in order to protect my new-found heirloom.

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Dy9TfjqVYAAV6DQ.jpg
Thank you very much, Tokishiba-sensei~! I'll keep supporting you till the very end!!
I’m SUPER looking forward to her latest work Alpha ga Alpha o Daku Houhou!!

It was snowing again when I returned to Akihabara so I went straight to Kotobukiya. I love visiting them as their displays are always very inspiring.

I was lucky to have visited fortuitously for their GOD EATER 9th Anniversary Event in Akihabara. Various replicas were displayed and the whole space looked so cool!

Life-size panels are a must in any Japanese event.
After dinner, I took a train and went to Shibuya for a little shopping (I.LOVE.THIS.PLACE!)

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2019/03/03/2166510.jpeg

I visited HMV&BOOKS Shibuya for Natsume Isaku Fair held in commemoration of sensei’s 15th Anniversary since her debut. I still have very fond memories of reading Dash! and Tight Rope (it was among my first titles when I started reading BL).

It never cease to amaze me to see how sketched manuscript becomes the real deal.

https://japan-attractions.jp/wpxxxxx/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/wonder-festival-winter_img2019.jpg
Every figure collector’s dream destination.

Ah, Wonder Festival… The semi-annual event that I’ve only ever seen through pictures and twitter feeds which only fuelled my dream of attending one someday. And that someday shall be today! All my fears be damned!! I’ll be damned if I pass this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to visit Wonder Festival like when will I ever get another chance like this?! And so, I steeled myself and made my way to Makuhari Messe.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2019/03/04/2166918.jpeg

I was planning to get the guidebook at the event itself but as I was walking towards the train platform, I heard a fervent voice chanting “Get your WonFes guidebook here!” in Japanese so I stopped by Book Express to get it. Thanks, lady! You’re doing great!!

Upon arrival at Kaihimmakuhari Station, there’s plenty of signs to guide visitors to the event halls or one can simply follow the masses. To enter the event, hold the guidebook up high enough for the staffs to see and then you’re free to choose to either go to the garage kit dealers section (International Exhibition Halls 4 to 8) or the vendors section (Halls 1 to 3). There are a lot of people but the crowds are still manageable. Well, there are no signs of any panic attacks so I take that I’m doing fine.

I chose to visit the dealers section first as I’ve heard of garage kits selling out real fast and some circles may leave earlier than the closing time. Oh.My.God. I’ve never attended such large-scale event before. The halls are enormous and with so many dealers / circles, it’s just impossible to see and appreciate everything.

I must say I really respect how organised and self-disciplined the Japanese are. Visitors patiently queue to appreciate the sculptor’s works, take photos (especially at renowned booths) and thanked the person behind them before moving on.

Another major advantage of WonFes is that visitors and fans get a chance to interact with the sculptors. Many were delighted and encouraged when they are told something as simple as “It’s amazing!”.

It’s now time for the vendors section!

The estimated queue was only 15 minutes for OR but when I was done, I saw that the line got a lot longer and the waiting time increased to 45 minutes o.0?!

You know how theme park attractions always display the estimated waiting time by the entrance? Well, you’ll see a lot of it here in WonFes as well particularly at the rated R-18 vendors like Native. I’m really curious about Native so I decided to join the queue much to the surprise of the guys in line. I even saw some dealers lining up as well! The estimated time was 60 minutes but I only waited for like 25 to 30 minutes, guess I got lucky! Keep in mind that you’ll need an ID to enter.

Ah, the entire atmosphere of WonFes is just incredibly remarkable!! There is so much to take in and before leaving, I went back to the dealers section to say my farewell to both members of Onigiri.

On the same day as WF2019W, there was a Dakaichi event Opera Za no Kaijin ni Odosarete Imasu whereby they revealed what every figure manufacturer should’ve done years ago:

I had some spare change so I tried my luck at one of the gacha machine and fortunately I got my favourite illustration from Saezuru Haru Deco.

I was just here two days ago and there new goodies coming in already!
At last it was time for me to return home. The past couple of days was like a dream (still feels like a dream) and I’m very glad I went on this journey. I’m grateful to meet so many nice people. They're all so kind and sweet from the Customs officer, to the lady who guided me, the event staffs, garage kit dealers, chefs and even the construction workers (almost every morning they'll greet me as I walked past). They're all such wonderful people. It wasn’t easy physically and mentally (not to mention now I’m fucking broke lmfao) but somehow, I feel fulfilled. Most importantly, I’m amazed at well I coped with my fears.

The future is in my hands
It's totally up to me
Try and fail but don't fail to try

I’ll treasure and keep these words close to my heart forever. Thank you, Tokishiba-sensei for your hard work and thank you, MIN-sensei and ZERO-san for your friendliness. Thanks for the beautiful memories~❤

Lastly, thank you guys for reading! Till next time, MFC. Take care :D

SkyBlue1 year ago#53747778Yup, it's online but rn I'm trying for one that requires submitting a form attached with some codes which I do have but I'm worried the letter may not make it to Japan in time X'D Wow, that sounds tough...did you manage to win? It'd be awesome if you bought only one CD and won :D

Good luck! I hope you win!

I bought 4 CDs and bought some serial codes that people were selling online! I didn't win for the 2 day concert but I did win the live viewing for one of the day! Live viewings are basically watching the concert at the same time in select theatres around Japan! I went to the live viewing and was able to buy tickets for other LV on the day! It was soo good! But next time I want to get the concert! DX

Senbei1 year ago#53362266Filling out forms :O I'm assuming it's online because I'm not sure how else fans from overseas can submit them.
The lottery I did was for the animate cafe and QNLF 2018 concert... one was through animate's website and the other was serial code. But you needed an eplus account which means you needed a Japanese address and phone number to make the account... it majorly sucked. Also, die hard fangirls would buy like 20 copies of the CD with the serial code to enter >___>

Thanks! Oh God, tell me about it. Japanese lotteries are soooo hardcore and when you're up against thousands of diehard fans... *cold sweat* It depends on the store but the most common way is buying the tankoubon. Some are done automatically and some stores require filling out forms or submitting serial codes or the one I dread the most - first come first serve. All hell breaks loose on that last one there *shudders*

lemontea1 year ago#53167068wow amazing trip, looks like you had a lot of fun (and I really enjoyed reading about it too)! and I know it can be a bit scary going on a trip all on your own, but the experience itself is incredible. you only have one life, so if an opportunity such as this arises, definitely take it and go!
(I've actually never been to the comicomi shop before but I think next time I'm in Japan, I'm definitely going to visit!)
The DMMD garage kits (the busts) look awesome! especially Clear, I love the translucent jellyfish and now I wish it were an official figure. I didn't know freeing was making more bunny figures and I'm happy about it cause it means more and more BL series will *hopefully* get figures too!
I also agree with you, Animate Ikebukuro is also one of my favorite places ^__^ going there and walking down otome road, vising the k-books, toranoana, all the shops.. it feels like a second home
I'm really happy you enjoyed reading it~! I definitely will! No more regrets *pumps fist in the air* You should definitely visit ComiComi Studio Machida if you can!! They always have such cute café collaborations too. It's the best time to be alive rn for BL fans! At last our time has come ᕦ( ᐛ )ᕤ Bring on more sexy males!!

take1231 year ago#53168203When I traveled alone for the first time it was quite nerve racking. But after you done it once its not so bad. I enjoy traveling alone and wandering around and doing what I feel like at the moment. You said it best! The freedom where I need not worry about my companion being bored or bugging me regarding the time. Just me, myself and I ♡(´・ᴗ・`)♡

Wario541 year ago#53255138Congrats on the amazing experience!! I can't even imagine having the bravery to travel to a different country on my own. Very cool to see that KH was everywhere! *o* I was iffy on the theme at first but it really grew on me, love it now. Also omg that GK of Noiz's bunny, I would buy a figure like that in a heartbeat haha.Thank you so much! I can't even imagined it myself before but I did it. Feels so surreal, even now. I'm savouring every moment of KH, it's so damn fun!!

airi-02x1 year ago#53161034ღゝ◡╹)ノ♡ Sounds like you had a lot of fun. I am glad that you enjoyed it!~ Congrats on venturing in Japan alone and getting to meet your favourite author. It must have taken a lot of courage. Sounds super exciting and frightening.
But you lived thorough it and you'll probably remember this in the years to come~ Rest up and marvel at the amazing loot you ended up getting haha (´ω`*)
You went to Wonfes as well. Sweet~ You ended up experiencing loads of new stuff. Perhaps you'll get more opportunities to meet your other BL authors haha
Best time ever!! It was equally nerve-racking and exciting but taking that first step was the hardest. Then I started thinking "I NEED TO DO THIS!" like I only get to live once and I have enough regrets already so let's live life to the fullest!! X'D
YES!!! Imma treasure these memories of mine and mine alone forever~! And I really learned a lot about myself through this journey :D

rubyserpent_7201 year ago#53161982I've been to the past 2-3 Wonfest? It's the only time of the year I get a holiday so why not make the best of it and go Japan? or so I tell my self haha. And it's really wonderful to see all the new announcements/gks in person not to mention all the food (I want to go back again ;A;)
And thanks for liking my past blogs! I took a lot of photos last wonfest but I never got around to it after the first NSFW post _(:3」∠)_
