Kishibe Rohan Memo Holder ReviewKishibe Rohan Memo Holder Review

kojuurokojuuro4 months agoReview
Hi MFC!

Today I'll be reviewing the Kishibe Rohan Memo Holder (ITEM #675956) by Di molto bene and Sentinel.
This is my first review, so any feedback is welcome!

Just a warning before I begin the review: THIS REVIEW IS PICTURE HEAVY AND HAS SOME MINOR SPOILERS FROM PART 4 OF JOJO!

About the character: Rohan is a character from the series JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. He's initially introduced as one of the antagonists, and is featured primarily in part 4 Diamond is Unbreakable. He's a professional mangaka who is extremely dedicated to his work and will pretty much do anything to make it better. Throughout the years, he's had his own spinoff series Kishibe Rohan wa Ugokanai (Thus Spoke Kishibe Rohan), and several oneshots.

The Box

The box is a simple white, with various intricate designs and patterns which feature pen nibs, and his headband, which I think looks really nice and makes it a bit unique.

The Blister

Nothing super interesting. It's a typical 2 piece blister, with a hole for the arm to stick out of.

The Figure

This figure of Rohan recreates the panel where he is fighting Okuyasu in his house, showing off a page of his manga Pink Dark Boy.

First I'll show some pictures without the memo. I was initially skeptical on his quality due to being made by Di molto bene, but I'm happy to see his colours are vibrant and the sculpt is quite nice!

Considering his size, and knowing the general quality of the paintjob on S.A.S. figures, my hopes weren't too high as far as the paintjob goes, but I have to say that I'm very pleasantly surprised at how great he looks (Thank you Sentinel)! The shading is pretty noticeable and gives the figure some pretty nice depth.

The Base

The base for this figure is an office chair. It has a peg to hold Rohan in place, and is better than a flat circle any day. It doesn't take up any more extra space than it needs, which is great. (In hindsight the black background isn't great for showing off the chair legs, so I apologize for that)

Instructions and Memo Parts

The memo part of this figure is his page of manga. It's really tiny, so I highly doubt I will end up using it (maybe replacing the paper with a sticky note or something instead). Because of the size of the packaging, the memos were all slightly bent (since they were just printed on cheap paper) which is a bit of a shame.

There are 7 pages you can use, which I've just cut out with a pair of scissors.

Rohan with his manga

Of course, he scales well with the manga page, so no complaints here. Despite being a really small piece of paper, the print job is pretty nice.

This figure is a memo holder, which means it's non scaled and is actually pretty tiny.
Just to give you an idea of how small it is, here are some examples.

Rohan + his chair are a whopping 5 1/4 inches in size (approx. 13 cm) which honestly, is pretty disappointing considering his price.

Despite loving the character so much, it was really hard for me to justify 8k (nearly $100 CAD) for a figure that could fit into the palm of my hand, one with barely any accessories, and especially being marketed as a memo holder good instead of a figure. Looking at other Rohan figures, I knew the aftermarket would not be too kind, and this one would be no exception. Luckily enough, I was gifted this figure by my sister for my birthday (despite it having past quite a while ago due to the delays), and I couldn't be happier!

Overall, I would recommend anyone who likes his character to pick him up! Despite being tiny, and technically a memo holder, I think it's one of the nicest Rohan figures available (along with his RAH). I completely understand and won't go out of my way to justify the ridiculous price for anyone not wanting to pay 8k (now 10k in the aftermarket) for him, because honestly, I was the same.

Now after seeing him in person and having him here in front of me, would I have paid 8k for this? Absolutely.

Hope you guys enjoyed my review!

maggie (3 months ago) #54830853I honestly did balk at the price but after seeing a picture on a Japanese manga artist blog, I snapped him up IMMEDIATELY.
Completely worth the price.
This is not Di Molto Bene, it’s Sentinel who made this with their oversight. I wasn’t sure at first, and different website stated different producers, so I purchased after release just to be sure it was Sentinel’s project. Sentinel makes a damn nice figure, and this Rohan is no exception.
He looks BETTER than the prototype, which I’ve rarely ever seen happen. Yes he’s small, but the sculptor who made him was extremely skilled with prototype to finished product knowledge. Seams are hidden marvelously, all parts fit together perfectly. Beautiful quality. Bravo, Sentinel!! I got him on the heels of Gwendolyn from Aquamarine (GSC distributed I believe) and I was more impressed with Rohan who was half the price.
I was so impressed I’ve been considering doing a video review, which I rarely do. However, I’m not sure it helps anyone as he sold out pretty quickly with aftermarket prices instantly rising to around $108-110.
People need to realize just because something isn’t 1/8 doesn’t mean it’s not worth getting or isn’t expensive to make. Higher quality comes at higher prices.
I completely agree, his quality totally blew me away, and was really what compelled me to review him as well. I'm really glad Sentinel was able to handle most of the manufacturing this time around, since even more recent S.A.S. releases have been a bit disappointing quality wise.

I also don't think many people preordered him (which is probably partly why his initial price was so high), so his lack of availability and price hasn't been doing any favours for aftermarket prices.

Despite being a bit pricey, I'm pretty excited to see if Sentinel will create more of these. I honestly think Rohan was a great example of something outside of the Statue Legend line which looks great and doesn't have nearly as many flaws as some of the Statue Legends.

noctisity (3 months ago) #54785701Thanks for the review! I was on the fence for awhile regarding this figure and decided not to buy it in the end. I'm glad to see the sculpt ended up being pretty nice, but I couldn't bite at that price like many others.
Also, a side note since you asked for feedback: The organization of the blog was great and easy to read through. All the photos from different angles and pairing the figure with other merchandise was also a huge plus. (I love seeing how figures scale against other goods/figures.) :D
But if possible for next time, I would recommend getting a stronger light source on the figure (or perhaps increasing the brightness a bit on the photos), so it's a little easier to see finer details on the figure's sculpt. Otherwise great review!

Thank you so much! The price was really hard to accept, and like others have said, 5-6k would have been so much more reasonable for it's size. I also sat on it for a few weeks too, which I think is a little sad since it seems like there are people genuinely interested in this but rightfully balk at the price.

I'm glad you liked the comparisons to the Jotaro nendo and manga tankobons! :) Because of the lack of promo pictures initially on his page, it was really hard to hit home just how tiny he was, which to me was a bit deceptive especially since he's non-scaled.

Thank you for the feedback on the light source!! I really appreciate it!

Sundae (3 months ago) #54762908I wish the Jojo stationery figures were more around the 5k price range, because I love the idea but I can't quite justify the cost considering the size. I'm glad you're happy with your purchase though, thanks for the review!
illumi4Love (3 months ago) #54759804Truly appreciate the review, I was concerned about the price and size. I'll pass for now, although I'm a big Rohan fan, it's just doesn't seem the right size for the price. Thanks
The price is honestly not great. Hopefully he will bin eventually and you can pick him up!

Nyangire (3 months ago) #54747593I really wish GSC would make some figures, then the price would be more justified
Yeah I hope GSC will continue their nendos and possibly expand their JoJo line so we can get better figures than what Medicos and Banpresto has been putting out.
