Konosuba - Megumin - Sneaker Bunko Ver. (Kadokawa)Konosuba - Megumin - Sneaker Bunko Ver. (Kadokawa)

Hey, fellow mfc-members and welcome
to another review!

For today’s review I’ll take a closer look at ITEM #740485 the Sneaker Bunko 30th Anniversary Ver. of Megumin from the popular light novel series (and anime) Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo! or “Konosuba” for short, made by Kadokawa. I haven’t started reading the novel yet (but I plan to) and just watched the anime. I love the adaption though. Still, I obviously went for the figures (waiting for ITEM #740484 to ship out) made in the style of the novel. The (imo) cuter designs just caught my eye. Anyway, enough with the chitchat. Let’s get started with the actual review. :3

To say that that Megumin’s box looks somewhat bland is a bit of an understatement in my eyes. As if to hide this, all sides (barring the bottom where you find the usual gibberish) have large windows allowing a pretty good view of the figure. It’s not that the orange rims with the diagonal stripes or the polka-dot pattern don’t fit, it just feels lacking and the pictures of the figure don’t really help convince me otherwise.

As expected, the blister isn't anything special either, still sturdy enough to do its job.

After unboxing everything we're left with 3 parts: main figure, base and the plastic support pole (yay...)
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1553364636.jpeg
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1553364645.jpeg
Assembly is pretty self-explanatory and easy but Kadokawa still went to the trouble of including an instruction sheet in Japanese and English.

~◦*◦✾◦˚°˖*゚✲*❁*✲゚*˖°˚◦✾◦*◦~
The base is just a clear circle with a yellowish magic circle decorating it. While this is not an unreasonable choice it's definitely not something to write home about either. It feels more utilitarian than anything else. The clear plastic wedge with the pegs and the support pole only reinforce that impression.

Now I really do love the cute pose and vibe of this figure and with her leaning backwards it does make sense to include a support pole in order to avoid leaning issues. With the white background it's pretty inconspicuous too, but it still looks ugly and while this might be an unpopular opinion, I would've preferred the metal rod shown in the promo pictures. Sure, it'd be more noticeable, but I think the plastic pole looks kind of cheap in comparison.

The cute expression with the slight blush sure is endearing and those eyes~♡

I really like the sculpt of her hair as well, especially the flowing fringe and side bangs. Unfortunately, the hair at the back of her head got treated with less care. the seam doesn't look too great either. Plus, the coloring looks really flat and it's not like dark brown coloring makes applying some shading impossible.

Megumin's hat makes a good impression at first glance but doesn't come w/o flaws. I don't really mind the seam line between the band and the tip, the paintjob it pretty wonky all over. The yellow rim and the stitches would be the main offenders here. Interestingly the ones on the big red buttons seem to be fine. As a "minor nitpick" I also think the sculpt could be a bit crisper, the folds in the fabric and tassel look a bit too soft (the latter seems like just a lump of plastic attached the hat). Still the shading looks ok here, a bit subtle though.

Here you can see how the support pole is attached to the hat. I'm not a fan of how they just closed off the interior of the hat with plastic but seeing how they had to find a place for the pole and how you wouldn't normally look there I can hardly fault them for it.

On to the body and clothing we find nicely sculpted collarbones framed by the collars of her cape and robe. Now let's be honest, neither paint nor sculpt impress me here (far from it). The yellow rims are painted sloppily, the sculpt (especially on the cloak's collar) lack detail (what should be folded fabric looks like a lump of plastic with a dent) and you can even find excess bits of plastic. The white shirt underneath the robe creates and ugly seam at the edge of the robe and the stitched bit continues the wonky paintjob.
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1553368413.jpeg
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1553368418.jpeg
It's not all bad though the folds on the robe and their shading look pretty nice.

The same goes for Megumin's cloak, yet the yellow rim (again) isn't painted properly.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1553368424.jpeg

Sadly, Megumin's hands don't look too good either. By now it's no secret that I like beautifully sculpted hands, but this figure doesn't offer them. The seams between her fingers and the (again sloppy) paint on her gloves ruin a favorable impression (in my case) and the glossy fingernails can't alleviate that. At least her sleeves look okay~ish and I hope the fact that I didn't properly de-dust this part (meaning those white bits are dust) is a bit of comforting (sry, about that). x3
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1553369215.jpeg
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1553369219.jpeg

I'm getting a bit tired repeating it, but her staff continues the trend of the overall paintjob being subpar. The seams between the bandaged and wooden bits don't look too great either with excess bits of plastic on the bandages (also what's up with the lack of shading?).
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1553369225.jpeg
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1553369222.jpeg
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1553369228.jpeg

Apart from the decoration at the hem of Megumin's "robe", which is surprisingly clean in terms of paint and the sculpt which looks decent I can't really compliment much here. The paint on the belt (the buckle in particular) fits the rest of the figure and while I appreciate the sculpted holes in it the rest could've been more detailed for sure.

Obligatory peek under the skirt under spoiler (NSFW)... x3
View spoilerHide spoilerIt's almost shame that Megumin’s butt is hidden behind the cape and so hard to get a glimpse at since it's really cute.
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1553369918.jpeg https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1553369920.jpeg https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1553369923.jpeg
As you can see her panties are plain black ones

Megumin has fine legs with sculpt of the stocking and bandages showing some nice details. The seams aren't too terrible either, but the paint looks a tad too flat (some more shading would've done wonders I suppose).
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1553369925.jpeg
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1553369928.jpeg

The design of her boots is simple, with the ever so subtle shading adding a bit of depth, but the gold paint isn't perfect and the bits under the folds look downright awful.

Now for some size comparisons...
Excluding the base Megumin reaches a height of roughly 21-22cm that should align well with her character height. Kadokawa states her as a 1/7 scale and while I didn't find exact numbers for character (not that I looked to hard x3) she is 13-14 years old, so something below 150cm isn't far-fetched at all.

Putting her next to ITEM #61401 makes it pretty clear that she's by no means a 1/8 figure and even Myethos's Queen of Hearts looks a bit smaller (mainly the face).
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1553370552.jpeg
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1553370559.jpeg

ITEM #549541 is somewhere between 1/8 and 1/7 in terms of size and looks surprisingly out of place next to Megumin.
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1553370554.jpeg

ITEM #676101 has no scale given but Astolfo ITEM #604756 is in the upper average range for a 1/7 figure and look how well they fit next to Megumin.
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1553370562.jpeg

Even ITEM #287579 doesn't look that different (in terms of size) than Megumin, which is quite remarkable since she's pretty close to a 1/6 scale.
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1553370567.jpeg

~◦*◦✾◦˚°˖*゚✲*❁*✲゚*˖°˚◦✾◦*◦~
I had a lot of complaints this time around and I definitely wouldn't call this a high-quality figure. But I still find this Megumin very charming. Plus, these flaws, sadly, where well within the realm of what I expected from Kadokawa and from what I gathered from the comments this is no case of “getting a bad one” either. It remains to be seen if I'll end up keeping her since I essentially stopped collecting figures from Konosuba, but right now I don't really feel inclined to just sell her off.

That's it for this review! Thanks for reading, I hope you liked it! ^^
If you don’t mind, I’d love some constructive criticism,
but if you don’t feel like posting any your thoughts on the figure are also very welcome. :3

hieigodsend (22 days ago) #56043163Great review. Shame her quality wasn't as good as I expected it to be.Thank you! :3 Yeah that's a shame, but there's nothing to be done about that now and most flaws aren't that visible at least.

surenintendo (1 month ago) #55031117Great review! I got this figure too, and it has its... unique qualities to the paint job :P
Shame that it didn't come out as sharp as the prototype, but it's very adorable XD
Thank you! :3
That's certainly a nice way of putting it and she's still cute enough to ignore those "qualities" so whatever, right?^^

HonyXOtaku (1 month ago) #55024650i like her so much i hope i get a perfekt figure !!!!! thank you for it pretty nice !Thanks for your comment! :3 I wish you the best of luck with her.
kanozo (1 month ago) #55030331It's disappointing there were so many flaws you found with the paint, I wonder if Aqua will have similar problems. Megumin's face and pose are still very cute and charming though. At this point I'm pretty sure she will, but it won't be long until her release now so worrying about it won't do much good.
In the end she'd still be able to win me over in person, Megumin sure did that (that charming little thing. :3

victorviper (1 month ago) #55028588I've never really gotten on the Konosuba bandwagon, but this is a very cute figure. I really like her eyes.
At first, that big acrylic support rod seems like an eyesore, but it seems reasonably well hidden and I can't think of a better alternative for supporting her gigantic hat.
It was also nice to see Rorona ITEM #61401 make an appearance, too :).
I do too, it's the main thing that drew me to the figure tbh (in addition to the cute pose).
It's not that I don't understand the decision, there had to be something to support it but I'd still have preferred a thinner metal rod.^^"
Haha, I should really use her more often for this type of thing, I love that figure of her to bits after all. :3
