In this hobby, sometimes you pass on an item and then have a case of non-buyer's regret when you see the price that of item go absolutely crazy post-release. However, sometimes fortune smiles and you get a second chance at such figures in the form of a re-release or a new color variant and so today we'll be reviewing such a figure, Rocket Boy's "Sun Kissed" variant of their very popular Dva figure. This is an 18+ figure and Dva is a futanari, so most of the shots in this review will be highly NSFW. You've been warned...
About the character/figure: Dva is an original character designed by the well-known illustrator Ban ENTRY #113961. While Ban does not exclusively draw futanari characters, I would daresay that they are best known for their attractive futa designs.
As mentioned a second ago, this figure is a color variant of ITEM #549551 which was released in April 2018. That figure proved to be enormously popular and soon started fetching prices of two or three times its original price on the secondhand market. This recolor was released in March 2019 at a price of 15900 yen.
Rocket Boy goes for a very simple package design. The box is windowless and each panel features a combination of the name of the figure and/or a hibiscus flower on a solid black background.
As you can see from this PICTURE #1961846 photo showing the box design of the original figure, the recolor makes the text and the flowers on the box gold instead of silver, which channels the tanned theme of the color variant.
This figure has many optional parts, and for such figures I like to keep the figure box on display nearby. Therefore, I like how there's no explicit artwork on the box, yet the hibiscus flower with its pronounced stamen cleverly alludes to the futanari nature of the character.
Dva in the blister. You can see that the futanari parts are packaged in a little black box to avert prying eyes.
Dva wears a bracelet and an anklet, and these come as separate pieces.
As is common with their releases these days, Rocket Boy includes a postcard with Ban's original illustration of the character.
Getting Dva set up in your preferred manner is pretty straightforward (her arm and leg must be removed to install her bracelet and anklet, and the various crotch pieces lift off), but it's always nice to have an instruction sheet.
When I saw this text which obviously is some some sort of warning, curiosity prevailed and I ran it through Google Translate. Amusingly, this text warns that individuals with pacemakers should take care in handling this figure as Dva's nipple pasties are magnetic and presumably the magnets could interfere with a pacemaker's proper function. I don't think I've ever seen a warning like this before!
Set up and ready!
Even though Dva is a 1/6 scale figure, because of her sitting pose, the box does not have to be excessively large. The box measures 25 by 28 by 22 cm, and the cost of shipping the figure EMS to the USA was 4100 yen.
Let's begin with what is probably my least favorite thing about this figure, Dva's base. The sandy finish does look pretty good, but there are a couple things about the base that are not so good.
Dva's butt cheek and leg are meant to rest in that indentation in the base.
The main issue is that this indentation is not quite deep enough to keep her from shifting position slightly and when this happens, her hair will not sit flat on the base. Is this a huge deal? No, not really, but is something of which to be aware.
One other possible issue with the base is that it is quite large. The base is right about 8 inches (20 cm) in diameter and the thickness of the base could present some challenges when trying to display Dva on a crowded shelf. However, with a little finesse, I found that the figure can be displayed just fine without the base if you want to go that route.
Rocket Boy did a great job of duplicating Ban's illustration into 3D. Dva's body language is very aggressive, almost as if she's saying "do you think you can handle me?".
Let's have a look at her.
One thing of note is that you may want to carefully choose where to display this figure.
This shot is what she'll look like when the figure is viewed above eye level. The way she's leaning back and tilting her head makes her look slightly awkward from such an angle.
This is not so much of an issue when she's viewed from eye level.
IMO, Dva looks best when she's positioned just below eye level.
Overall, the quality of the paint and sculpt is quite good, but there are a few small issues on each of those fronts. Fortunately, these small issues are counterbalanced by some very interesting features, and overall I'd call the overall quality of the paint and sculpt significantly above average.
Rocket Boy did a great job with the design of Dva's face. Her green eyes are very striking, and the sharp cut of her bangs is sort of a trademark of Ban's character designs.
I really like the way her face looks from this angle, with the way that her hair frames her face.
An interesting and subtle feature of this figure is the hibiscus flower Dva wears in her hair, as the stamen alludes to her futanari nature. Note the sculpting of the individual petals on the flower.
I also like the way her hair falls all around her, as opposed to having just a single "sheet" of hair, as this adds an element of realism to the figure.
One small complaint is that there are some isolated messy places in her hair, one of which is seen below.
Another instance of messy sculpting.
Probably the biggest sculpting issue with the figure is seen in the shot below. Dva definitely has a case of "helmet head", and the seams where the various pieces of her hair meet are difficult to ignore.
Even though Dva is for all purposes topless, I like how she wears that frilly collar. IMO that makes for a sexier look than just having bare skin there! The painting on the various black spaghetti straps is generally fine.
You can see a small painting issue here with the striping.
Note the definition of her armpit, and I like how that little piece of hair wraps around her breast!
The gold nipple pasties are a very eye catching feature to be sure, and I think the metallic gold color is a perfect match for her tanned skin and the overall summery feel of the figure!
The pasties are magnetic, and the magnets seem quite strong, but Dva's default configuration right out of the box has her breasts bare.
For the magnetic pasties to work, this means that Dva could not have extremely pronounced nipples. They're not quite inverted nipples, but that might be the best way to describe their shape. I like the very subtle color shading on her areolae, too.
There are all kinds of interesting things going on in the shot below. For one, that is a killer set of abs! The very defined abs give her just a hint of masculinity, which is quite neat when she's displayed in futanari mode. Also, note how the teensy little bows are well sculpted, down to the tiny knots on the bows. And then, there is her shiny skin. The effect is most definitely intentional, and it's a perfect look for the figure. With her bronzed skin, you could easily imagine that she's either perspiring out in the sun, or possibly she has oiled herself up.
Tanned skin is one of the hardest effects to realize on painted figures. Not skillfully done, figure tans can easily end up looking like a bad orange "spray tan", but Rocket Boy perfectly executed the tanned look!
I also like all the definition on her inner thigh muscles, and how you can see her thighs transition into her glutes.
If you're very attentive, you might note that the design of the bikini bottom is subtly different than it appears in the illustration. In the illustration, the bikini bottom is a small white heart, but in figure form Rocket Boy makes the bottom slightly larger, adds some trim, and at least to me, the bottoms look like a cat face :). If you look carefully, you can see a little bit of messy painting around the "ears".
I like the purple ribbon, as the rest of her outfit is black and white and the purple adds some needed color.
The illustration makes it clear that her bottom is a g-string bikini, and I like the triangular cut-out there.
The g-string does pull a disappearing act, though. Maybe it should, though, since there's very little material on the g-string back...
Rocket Boy paid a lot of attention to Dva's feet! Her toes are different sizes, as they should be, and you can even see cuticles on some of her toenails.
If I were being picky, I would point out that they got a little shading-happy on the areas between her toes :).
Dva can be displayed with or without her nipple pasties, and there are four different options for her lower body. You can see that the bikini bottom attaches with a peg and lifts off.
Here are the four lower body pieces than can be used. You've got the normal bikini, a piece that makes the bikini bottom a "cage" bikini which leaves her vagina exposed, and then two different penises for futanari mode.
Here's option two, with the exposed vagina.
My complaint here is that the painting on Dva's vagina is just...weird. The orangish-red color just looks strange, but on the other hand I wonder how many people who buy this figure would actually display her like this anyway. Hey, that's a good poll question...
Dva is of course a futanari, so option three gives her a very generous futanari part.
Her dick has a bit of a curve to it, and you can see the testicles are better defined than you sometimes see on futa characters. Also, her penis is tanned to match the rest of her body; tanning that part of the anatomy is a delicate proposition (the possibility of sunburn...well, let's not even talk about that...) and usually futa characters have to be aroused for their penises to emerge, so it would take some very deliberate effort on her part to get that tan there!
Note the level of detail on the head.
Since you need to know these things, the length of her penis is 1.75 inches (4.5 cm). At 1/6 scale, that would make its "true" length 10.5 inches (26.5 cm), so there's no getting around it; she truly has a majestic cock! Her cock is 3.5 cm in circumference. At 1/6 scale, that would make it 3.5x6/pi = 6.7 cm in diameter, or about 2.6 inches in diameter.
I like how she looks from this angle, nonchalantly glancing to the side while displaying her impressive erection!
Again, if you're paying close attention, you'll note another difference between the figure and the source illustration. The illustration has her cock sprouting out of her tiny bikini bottom, and the figure does not try to duplicate this in 3D. That would almost certainly necessitate the use of stretchy parts for the bikini bottom, and such things do not always hold up well in the long term, so I'm perfectly OK with this slight deviation from the source material on this front.
The final lower torso option has her wearing a bright pink condom.
The bright pink condom is sure to draw the eye! Note the detail on the condom, like the tip and the rimmed bottom.
Interestingly both the source illustration and the original color variant of this figure make her condom turquoise and not pink. I think that turquoise would actually be a better color choice since that would be in line with the beachside theme, mimicking the color of the ocean, but the pink still looks cool.
Under normal circumstances, futanari characters appear to be female in every way and their penises retract inside their body cavity, emerging when they are aroused in some way. You can see that Rocket Boy includes this detail.
With her seated pose, Dva will span about 5.5 inches (14 cm) at her highest point, and the way she is sprawled out, she will have a significant shelf footprint, spanning about 8 inches (20 cm) from front to back.
If she were standing, I estimate she'd be about 11 inches (28 cm) tall, which at 1/6 scale would make her 5'6" (168 cm) tall. Considering that the mean height of adult Japanese women is approximately 5'2.5" (159 cm), Dva would be a moderately imposing figure in the flesh and she'll look every bit of 1/6 scale sitting on the shelf.
Here is Dva with another Ban offering, Milestone's Neko Musume Maoniang ITEM #740665. Mao is also listed at 1/6 scale, and it's worth noting that the overall quality of Dva is significantly better.
Tanned skin is an effect that is surprisingly difficult to do well, but both of these figures pull off the effect nicely. Wing's Super Sonico ITEM #117170 is 1/6 scale, and you can see that Dva will not be overwhelmed even when displayed next to larger-scale standing figures.
If a futanari and a succubus were to meet up, what would happen? I'm not sure, but the result is bound to be interesting and therefore these two make an interesting pair. Orchid Seed's Ziska ITEM #27956 is a large 1/7 scale for comparison.
Momohime ITEM #313104 seems a bit perplexed by this scene. That Momohime figure is 1/7 scale.
These two also make an interesting pair with the matching pink condoms. Skytube's Kanna Yuzuki ITEM #549591 is 1/6 scale for comparison.
Overall verdict and enjoyment----------9.5/10
Arguments for: Many. The figure nicely realizes Ban's illustration in 3D, tasteful box art, lots of display options, Dva's slightly shiny bronzed skin perfectly channels a hot summer day at the beach, this variant IMO looks even better than the original, the futanari parts are quite impressive, and this figure gave everyone who missed out on the original a second chance at getting a great figure.
Arguments against: A few unexpected quirks in overall quality, she doesn't quite stay put on the large and awkward base, the figure deviates a little bit from the source illustration (the color of the condom and the lack of a bikini bottom to cover part of her penis), and the futanari theme might not be to everyone's taste.
Overall, despite some quirks, this is a fairly magnificent figure and if you're open to the idea of having futanari figures in your collection, I'd recommend Dva with no hesitation whatsoever.
Availability (as of this writing)
Sold out new.
As with all figures from Native and their various offshoots, you either pre-ordered this figure directly from them or a reseller, else you'll be hunting it on the secondary market. The original Dva ITEM #549551 went nuts in price post-release and routinely fetches upwards of 30,000 yen secondhand, but I've seen the new version selling for around 20,000-24,000 yen; one showed up (briefly!) on AmiAmi the other day for 22,000. Time will tell if the availability of the recolor will put some downward pressure on the price of both versions, or if supply will dry up and both figures eventually stabilize in that 25,000-30,000 yen range. In any event, I'd expect to pay more than original retail if you decide to hunt this figure.
