The ever changing faces of a collection.

I guess I am writing this for the new comers to this hobby. To them I would say figure out what it is that brought you into this hobby. At the beginning when purchasing items do not go all out crazy and order everything you find cool. Having some restraint is a good thing and figuring out what you want your collection to look like and enjoy is nothing more than exhilarating.

I first remember when I started to collect figurines in 2012 that I wanted to stay focused on scaled figurines. I found them pretty and I liked that there was such a divers universe of figurines to select from. Now I had my mind e set on scales but often time when someone starts in this hobby we see so many people buying different formats of figurines.

Yes people will say they love Nendos others Figma Others Chibis. I have to say that I did buy a nendo because I liked the styling of it. Miku Snow 2012 was just awesome but she was my only Nendo as I did not find it interested me enough to buy more. I bought a figma by accident. I thought it was a scaled, was I ever surprised when it arrived. But it also taught me something. I found out that Figma's were not my thing either.

After stating for years that I would never go the 1/4 scale route I now find myself buying more and more of them. With the price of 1/8 1/7 1/6 scales the way they are today. Some of the 1/4 scales are actually a bargain.

My collection has yet again changed directions for 2019 as I find myself ordering almost 1/4 scales exclusively with a few 1/8 scales of favorite characters that I wish to own.

I walk by my collection day and night. Sometime not all the time; I will stop in front of a Detolf at random and look at the figurines within it.

This blog of course is to be taken with a grain of salt; not everyone will agree with my thoughts and I am good with that. I look forward to hearing comments from other collectors out there and what you went through when you first started to collect.

Did you buy everything you found interesting?
Did you have a plan when you came into this hobby?
Was there a certain price point that you did not want to go over?
Do you enjoy collecting as much now as you did when you first started?

Thanks for taking the time to read the blog

P.S I still love to collect even thought I am trying to be more selective in what I buy. This hobby is not for the faint of hart that hate parting with cash. = )

= )

Did you buy everything you found interesting?
No, due to being bad at budgeting and therefore not having the money to buy everything. (I'm still bad at budgeting now, but have gotten a little better.)

Did you have a plan when you came into this hobby?
None at all. It was just "Buy characters that I like!"

Was there a certain price point that you did not want to go over?
When I started, yes. I was very reluctant to go over £100, which as you can imagine made my collection limited.

Do you enjoy collecting as much now as you did when you first started?
I actually enjoy it more now since I've since changed my 'plan' (if you can even call it that) from "Buy characters that I like!" to "Buy figures of characters that I really, really like, and make sure the figures are visually interesting/very cute/something I really, really want to view every single day." Basically, making sure that I'd rather have the figure than the money to spend on something else.
My quantity per month/quantity per con may not be as high as when I started collecting, but to me, my quality is higher, and I prefer it that way.

Did you buy everything you found interesting?

Nah but sometimes I wish I did...

Did you have a plan when you came into this hobby?

Absolutely not I'm like a rabid animal with this hobby

Was there a certain price point that you did not want to go over?

If it's for a grail I would pay any amount, but otherwise I have a a threshold

Do you enjoy collecting as much now as you did when you first started?

It goes back and forth; I get obsessed for a few months then I quit for another few months.

No. I know that I can't have everything, so I'm trying my best to collect within my means.

I sell figures if I don't like it as much anymore so I always maintain a certain number of figures in my collection and can use the money to buy another figure that I like better.

Did you have a plan when you came into this hobby?
Kind of~ It just happen after I graduate and got a stable income.

Was there a certain price point that you did not want to go over?
Yes, but there will be some rare exceptions for my favorite character.

Do you enjoy collecting as much now as you did when you first started?
I do. I still enjoy the feeling of getting new figures, I enjoy interacting with other collectors and enjoy thinking about different displays plan.

I can see myself still collecting for a long time, though maybe not as active acquiring as much starting from next year since space is becoming an issue and I also want to save up more money.

At first I never thought I would start collecting figures. I was always into anime and manga, but was never too outgoing, so I rarely went to events. I made a friend in college however, that helped me open up and go out more, so I started going to cons and small events. I started collecting around a month ago, due to it being a new experience and just overall pressure from school making me want a hobby. I never knew about MFC and seeing such a community around this surprised me. I never really had a plan for all this, just that it made me happy. Seeing collections like this makes me wish that I started sooner though haha.

I just started collecting last summer (2018), I started purchasing one figure a month. I don't know why but I get a lot of happiness collecting figures.

However I started working for a new company with less hours. I had to take that into account when Figure collecting. I sold off one figure ITEM #574524 tbh I already want them back, so yeah I'm not selling any of my figs unless there is an emergency.

I made a list of all the figures I truly want so I'm prepared, no impulsive buys.

Did you buy everything you found interesting?

Almost, but I had set my sights on some figures from specific series that I really wanted.
I did buy some figures because I liked how they looked.

Did you have a plan when you came into this hobby?

No not really!I knew that I wanted to start collect figures after have spent 9 years collecting anime dvds and manga. It felt like the next level of sorts.

Was there a certain price point that you did not want to go over?
Hmm I guess my limit was around 20.000 yen for one figure not including shipping. I think I only broke that once when I bought Holo Wedding version.

Do you enjoy collecting as much now as you did when you first started?

Yes I do! Even more so because I have been selling some of my figures and now are I very picky about what I buy. I need rules to not overspend and now I am doing fine. Now I mostly want an emotional connection to the figure I buy, it has to be like a caracter that I really like to buy it.

Did you buy everything you found interesting?

If I had the money to do that I would be very happy and very rich.

Did you have a plan when you came into this hobby?

Coming from collecting Hasbro Star Wars, I had some sort of figure collecting background. I wanted my favorite characters, preferably one scale so they look good together (this is more or less working out).

Was there a certain price point that you did not want to go over?

I tend to build the figma army and pick up the occassional expensive scale if there character has very low or no chance of getting the figma treatment (such as Akatsuki from Log Horizon or the upcoming Brynhildr from Fate/Grand Order). I haven't bought anything about 20.000 yen and I hope this will continue.

Do you enjoy collecting as much now as you did when you first started?

No, I enjoy it more because I have more stuff and even more to look forward as I watch new anime series and play new games.
