F/GO - Jeanne d'Arc - Heroic Spirit Formal Dress ver. (Aniplex)F/GO - Jeanne d'Arc - Heroic Spirit Formal Dress ver. (Aniplex)

Hey, fellow mfc-members and welcome
to another review!

Today I’ll be taking a closer look at ITEM #645872 the Ruler class servant Jeanne d'Arc from the Fate franchise brought to us by Aniplex. The figure is based on a craft essence from Fate/Grand Order View spoilerHide spoilerhttps://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/fategrandorder/images/0/0e/CE639.png. She certainly wasn’t the figure I was most exited about getting, especially after hearing mixed things about Aniplex as a manufacturer, but here we are now. Her pose is not the standard one, especially for this type of figure and her cute look really appealed to me (plus, I was dead-set on integrating her in one of my shelves). Anyway, let’s see how the actual product turned out shall we? o(^◇^)o

~◦*◦✾◦˚°˖*゚✲*❁*✲゚*˖°˚◦✾◦*◦~
Jeanne arrives in one of those heavy cardboard-boxes I dislike so much since they have a really ugly surface, but I can’t deny the stability they offer. The gray color on the front, top and back reminds of marble even with the patterns. Additionally, they are decorated with roses, fitting the figure’s theme to a certain degree. The sides also show framed pictures of the figure on a light blue background which creates a nicer contrast). More shots can be found on the back.

The blister is standard fare, but you have to remove the top part like a lid, which can become rather annoying.

Since the figure only has 2 parts, I’ll skip that part this time...
The base is a deep red circle with a swirly golden circle setting an accent above the red pattern at the edge. A simple yet not too simple design that won’t distract you from the figure itself while creating a nice contrast with the blue elements. Yet, I’m not completely sold on this.

Assembly is as easy as it gets with 3 pegs going into her feet. Given her pose anything less would feel to unsafe. The somewhat frayed look of the peg holes straight out of the box is a bit worrying though…

~◦*◦✾◦˚°˖*゚✲*❁*✲゚*˖°˚◦✾◦*◦~
Now for the 360° overview….

Her pose was definitely one of the selling points of this Jeanne figure (at least for me) it also forces you to display her in a very specific way w/o much leeway.

~◦*◦✾◦˚°˖*゚✲*❁*✲゚*˖°˚◦✾◦*◦~
Jeanne’s facial expression is cute and playful, which goes well with the bent over pose, it almost looks like she’s trying to tease you a bit. They also really captured her blue eyes very well. My only small complaint would be that her lips aren’t at least a little glossy. You’d assume that’d be fitting for the occasion.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1566651774.jpeg

Her hair is very softly colored with just enough shading and sculpted strands to not look too flat. The seam at the top seems clean, yet a bit too noticeable maybe, but I love the slight sheen in her hair.
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1566651780.jpeg

The flower ornament sets a nice accent but is kinda crudely made. There are several spots where the paint wasn’t applied properly and even excess bits of plastic (most notable on the light blue flowers). Other than that, it looks ok I’d say, especially the sculpt.
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1566651782.jpeg
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1566651785.jpeg

At the top and end of her braid Jeanne is wearing black ribbons and apart from the lack of gradients (yeah, I know you can easily overdo it on black parts…) they look really good. The braid itself leaves me with nothing to complain about either, since shading and sculpt makes a good enough impression.

~◦*◦✾◦˚°˖*゚✲*❁*✲゚*˖°˚◦✾◦*◦~
Jeanne is wearing a choker and a silver necklace and while the first at least has some nice bronze-colored decorations on it the latter looks kinda cheap and badly painted. It also annoys me immensely that the necklace can be moved around. -_-
Then again at least they didn’t skimp stuff like her neck tendons and collarbone just because the view is usually obstructed.
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1566651805.jpeg

The small cape over her dress is a nice feature or it would be if the decorations on it wouldn’t look like the attempts I made at window colors as a child. (¯―¯٥) The rims aren’t any better as they’re uncleanly painted and the semi-transparent plastic looks a bit cheap too. Plus, Jeanne is a rather simple figure with a steep price for what she is, so they could’ve at least included the option to remove the cape. Still the ribbon fastening it at the front looks cute.
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1566651809.jpeg
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1566651811.jpeg

Underneath the cape Jeanne is wearing a simple black dress. The top part is pretty clingy giving a good impression of her body, especially the belly and back (though the latter is hard to capture).
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1566651815.jpeg
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1566651817.jpeg
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1566651820.jpeg

I don’t find her hands very remarkable either, the coloring on the gloves is supposed to evoke a semi-transparent look but doesn’t really succeed. Some parts of her hands, like the knuckles, are very well-defined but her fingers and palms are bit of a mess of welds. Additionally, the rims of the gloves suffer from the same crude paint as the cape.
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1566651825.jpeg

Above the cut-out on Jeanne’s dress rests another huge ribbon reinforcing the cute impression of her. While the sculpt is good, I’d really love some subtle highlights here and there (not just on the ribbon).
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1566651832.jpeg

The swirling skirt gives off a nice sense of movement and further underlines the playful vibe of the figure. The folds look pretty decent, but the complete lack of shading still bothers me. Plus, it may be just me, but the somewhat shiny finish does look a little cheap doesn’t it? Pretty sure it was intended to compensate for the flat paint but it kinda misses the mark for me.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1566651843.jpeg
Not gonna say much about the stockings since they could hardly be simpler. Yet the way the accentuate Jeanne’s legs (especially the knee area) isn’t so bad.

NSFW
View spoilerHide spoilerThe obligatory look under her skirt reveals nothing spectacular, just simple black panties.
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1566651846.jpeg
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1566651848.jpeg

What little you can see of Jeanne’s legs looks fairly good. I really like the definition on her ankles for example. Still, the stockings are kinda eh~ and there’s almost no visible difference between them and her shoes when it comes to the paint.
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1566651850.jpeg
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1566651854.jpeg
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1566651857.jpeg
Ofc, the sculpt shows the difference but other than that…
Also, these are the simplest pumps I’ve seen on a figure so far, just the seams for the sole give them any kind of realism, no additional creases of seams anywhere…

~◦*◦✾◦˚°˖*゚✲*❁*✲゚*˖°˚◦✾◦*◦~
So, last but not least some size comparisons…
No measuring this time given her pose so lets just put her next to some other figures.
ITEM #525327 and ITEM #549359 are both 1/8 figures. Ofc, there’s a height difference between scales, but Jeanne is supposed to be a 1/7 figure with a bent over pose to boot. Seeing her next to Holo who still doesn’t reach her height and Aoba who’s only bigger because of his head… well, I’ve got a rising suspicion that they didn’t care much about the scale for this one.
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1566651863.jpeg
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1566651871.jpeg

ITEM #549592 is a fellow 1/7 scale, albeit on the small side, but she still just barely reaches Jeanne’s height.
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1566651875.jpeg

ITEM #287683 & ITEM #464791 don’t fare that much better imo as their proportions seem off (the faces in particular). While Saber Alter is a normal 1/7 scale, Gwendolyn is a bit bigger than her, but still…
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1566651879.jpeg
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1566651885.jpeg

The best fit is probably ITEM #603996 (or other 1/6 figures, but it’s hard to find one in a matching style…). Contrary to what she is listed as Jalter is a 1/6 scale and they look fairly good together.
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1566651889.jpeg

Ofc, this is nice since I wanted to display them together all along.
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/broken-Toybox1566651897.jpeg

~◦*◦✾◦˚°˖*゚✲*❁*✲゚*˖°˚◦✾◦*◦~
Well… most of my recent figures didn’t impress me and this is no exception unfortunately. I didn’t expect a masterpiece from Aniplex (and I’ll continue to prefer Stronger as manufacturer for their figures), but she is still lacking imo. All the little errors do pile up after all and she wasn’t a very intricate figure in the first place. Yet this Jeanne is still pretty cute and pretty and it’s not that I don’t like her overall look (just expected her to be at least a little more refined).

That's it for this review! Thanks for reading, I hope you liked it! ^^
If you don’t mind, I’d love some constructive criticism,
but if you don’t feel like posting any your thoughts on the figure are also very welcome. :3
Also, if there's anything in my collection you'd like to see a review of feel free to shoot me a message or something.^^

I like her playful face expression and the theme for outfit but looking at it, to me, the whole figure looks a bit flat :/
Still a pretty figure but something I wouldn't pay full price or a figure I'd go on a hunt for.
You're welcome. :3 Thanks for the comment.
I wholeheartedly agree about her looking flat, she's not worth the price-tag imo. Yet if people who still want her are lucky she'll bin a bit like ITEM #645869.

SkaylerOtakuCat (26 days ago) #66069017Really nice review!
And, just my personal opinion, I think they could sculp a litle more motion and creses on the dress
Thank you! :3
Depending on the fabric I think the creases on the skirt at least are sufficient. Yet with her pose the top part looks flat in that regard (even fabric clinging to ones body can't avoid them after all. thanks for pointing that out. :3

broken-Toybox (27 days ago) #66012031At this point I'm not entirely sure I'll keep her (I'm a nitpick er after all). Her place in that particular display might just get snatched up by ITEM #740175.Ohh she would look great with Jalter and Gwendolyn! Their dresses match up!

Valrex (27 days ago) #66011850What are those transparent thing you have under your figures in your last picture to display them higher? I could use some of them. They're called acrylic risers. Shops like amiami carry them www.amiami.com/... (or try searching for "premium parts collection), but I got mine from a German shop for store interior. I did a quick search on US Amazon too and found some like this there as well.

That's what I was thinking too. I had some slight hopes after their Astolfo turned out good, but in the it'd have been better if Stronger had handled her (I mean they'd have made her exclusive anyway)...
I love the craft essence this figure is based on, but they didn't do her justice and the chance for a more decent manufacturer to pick it up again is now close to zero. -_-
Some parts definitely look like they'd belong to a price figure and not an expensive scale that's for sure.

CaptainZ (27 days ago) #66011830Now only if I could get a Boudica versionah, there are so many of those craft essences I'd love to see made (by a different manufacturer though), so let's not go there. X3

victorviper (27 days ago) #66011839A very classy and elegant figure! That she is, if only her quality would match that. :/

toxicfleurs (27 days ago) #66010127For a LE ver. It looks like a prize figure (quality-wise) especially up-close. I wish they put a lot of effort in it since its limited. The face is great but others that you mention are a no-no for me, especially the dress and flower head piece.I wholeheartedly agree on that, the only saving grace is her cute face and hair imo. Not sure what they were thinking releasing her like that...

It's a shame Aniplex did this one, I'm a huge Jeanne fan but this really doesn't justify the price tbh. She's really cute, that's for sure, I especially love the face. But the rest, eh, not so much. Maybe I'm nitpicking too much but this looks almost as a Sega quality figure, which I love but would never pay 16000¥ for :D Maybe it's because she has a simple and dark design, of course it's just my opinion.
Thank you! :3
