Review: Keroro Robo MK-II (Bandai)Review: Keroro Robo MK-II (Bandai)

galabluegalablue13 days agoReview
ლ(`∀´ლ) muahaha! Thanksgiving was great, but what's even better? Having time to work on the model kit you have had sitting around in your room for the past few months!

Yes, I'm talking about ITEM #906757. Spoiler alert -- the enjoyment of this model kit so far is a 10/10. This is less of a review and more just me having a lot of fun on a rainy day.

BACKSTORY

I was walking around Barnes n Noble one day, on my way to the escalator to go check out after picking up a manga for the week, and I noticed that they were having a 40 percent off sale on gundam. Gundam and model kits are always something I have wanted to build but have never really gotten around to it. Nothing has ever caught my eye. Well, I was slowly browsing the gundam when a green box caught my eye ... no way -- could that be Keroro Gunso merch?!

So Keroro Gunso is totally underrated in my humble opinion. I remember watching this with my brother when it didn't even have subtitles yet, and we would laugh at the hilarity of the frogs as they tried their best to take over Earth, only being stopped by their love of otaku culture. If you haven't checked out the show, I would honestly say go and do it.

Well, I marched my way down to the register and got the model kit. It was 40 percent off, with an extra 10 or 15 percent off (whatever my membership covers) -- basically I got this baby for a steal. It was only 16USD before sale, so yehaw! Unfortunately I wasn't able to find the other model kits at Barnes n Noble, but I'm going to search elsewhere for them and hopefully get the full set.

BOX

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2019/11/29/2339730.jpeg

This box is one of the most fun boxes I own. It is perfectly compact, just like how a gundam should be. Keroro is all over the box in different wacky poses as he fights crime throughout the galaxy ... yup, totally not causing trouble or anything!

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2019/11/29/2339734.jpeg

I just really love how this box has original art and product shots. And anyone who knows me knows that I LOVE original art on boxes!

INSTRUCTIONS

So, what's better than one figure ... two! Yes, this figure has two different model kits inside of it. It has the gundam itself with its pilot, and it has a separate Keroro who can cause trouble all over your house.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2019/11/29/2339735.jpeg

I did the separate Keroro when I first got the model kit as to get used to how the parts fit together, as it is my first time doing a kit. Find the instructions for him under the spoiler.

View spoilerHide spoilerSo his instructions are pretty basic.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2019/11/29/2339740.jpeg

There's one side that has the instructions. The most complicated part about this figure was his interchangeable eyes, which I'll show a picture of in a bit. But if I can do it, so can you!

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2019/11/29/2339741.jpeg

The other side of the instructions had really cute poseable item shots. Obviously you could paint or marker your figure, but I decided not to this time around and instead applied the stickers that were included in the package.

Round two of the gundam was done last night and took me about 2-3 hours in total. Yes, I took breaks where I played with my kitty Morgana with the laser pointer (she is not included in the gundam kit!). Find the instructions for the gundam itself under the spoiler.

View spoilerHide spoilerSo these instructions are a little bit more complicated but I was still able to follow along relatively easily. There was only one point where the instructions confused me and I ended up having to separate a piece I had clicked together, but it was an easy fix.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2019/11/29/2339736.jpeg

The other side of the instructions are some funny little cartoons featuring the gundam along with how to change him into "Stealth Mode".

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2019/11/29/2339737.jpeg

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2019/11/29/2339739.jpeg

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2019/11/29/2339738.jpeg

Giroro does not look pleased.

Now that we're done with the instructions, on to the figures themselves!

ASSEMBLY

But wait -- I have three weird assembly shots I took last night that I thought I would share.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2019/11/29/2339727.jpeg

Here is our cute little Keroro who will pilot our mech. He was probably the most difficult thing to put together out of everything. You really have to press down on the white part of his belly, as his green inside (where his skeleton is) doesn't quite have the same shape of the hole. But once you snap it in it works just fine.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2019/11/29/2339728.jpeg

Here he is on his little motorcycle. Yes, you can display him separately from his mech! He has his own stand which he can be attached to with or without his motorcycle. So I guess I got three figures for the price of one.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2019/11/29/2339729.jpeg

Here is Keroro all ready to take his position as ruler of the galaxy! Now he just needs to find his teammates.

FIGURE

First, let's take a look at the separate figure that was included in the kit.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2019/11/29/2339742.jpeg

He's super cute and funny. He comes with a lot of different accessories, but I find that he isn't balanced all that well (his head makes him tip over), so I just have him with his bomb. He also comes with a gun, a shield, and some other things.

Let me show you how to change his expression, which is an awesome inclusion!

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2019/11/29/2339744.jpeg

If you press in on the eyeballs, they pop backwards and this peg shows up in the back of his head. You can spin it around to pick which set of eyes you cant.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2019/11/29/2339743.jpeg

(He looks pretty creepy while it's happening). And no, you can't have one of one eye and one of the other, I have tried.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2019/11/29/2339745.jpeg

Me: Hey there, Keroro, what do you have back there?
Keroro: Nothing you need to worry about!

Next up we have the little pilot figure which you saw in my assembly. Here he is on his stand without his motorcycle.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2019/11/29/2339746.jpeg

He also has the option of his round eyes or his -o- eyes, but I chose to put the round eyes on. He can't be switched out without taking the stickers off, so you have to choose which expression you want when you put him together (or maybe the stickers were for the gundam, I honestly couldn't tell, but I went with the round eyes everywhere).

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2019/11/29/2339747.jpeg
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2019/11/29/2339748.jpeg

It's pretty cool how his motorcycle is balanced while he's on his mini stand. I don't think I'll ever display him like this, but it's cool!

Now, for the moment you have all been waiting for. Ta-dah!

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2019/11/29/2339749.jpeg

Keroro looks pretty cool in his mech, if I do say so myself. He's a lot smaller than I thought he was going to be, but honestly the size is great! I love how compact he is and how cute it makes him. I wonder if this is how big Keroro is in the show, lol!

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2019/11/29/2339750.jpeg

He can also go into Stealth mode.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2019/11/29/2339751.jpeg

Keroro: Can't see me now, can you?

COMPARISONS

Here are the two Keroros that came together in the box!

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2019/11/29/2339752.jpeg

You can see that they are pretty decent sized. The gundam is pretty small compared to the figure, so it's cool that I got both in there! I love how diverse this gundam kit was and how much fun I've had with it.

Wait, but I don't just have two Keroros ... I have three!

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2019/11/29/2339754.jpeg

It's like a family reunion...

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2019/11/29/2339753.jpeg

This other Keroro (ITEM #1291) typically was in my bathroom as my "cleaning fairy", but I've since moved him into my cabinet to stand with his other counterpart. This Keroro was one of the first figures I bought and I want to get the other counterparts, I just think they are so cute.

KERORO AND FRIENDS: BATTLE OF THE DESK

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2019/11/29/2339755.jpeg

It was a cold rainy day when Sally the "dragon" appeared! Keroro thought he could take her on and defend all of the desk cats.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2019/11/29/2339756.jpeg

But wait, Sally had backup! Pachi showed up too, and everyone knows that Pachi means business!

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2019/11/29/2339757.jpeg

It's two against one! What is Keroro going to do...? He really wants to run right about now ε=(ノ゚д゚)ノ

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2019/11/29/2339758.jpeg

But he can't back down! He has all of the kitties to protect!

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2019/11/29/2339759.jpeg

Pachi going in for the kill... Grrrr! (#`皿´)
Oh no! Keroro is done for! :;(∩´﹏`∩);: He's going to try to go into Stealth Mode!

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2019/11/29/2339760.jpeg

Da da da da! Have no fear, other Keroro is here! And he has his bomb! Pachi is terrified, it might explode at any moment! §;゚ロ゚§

Kaboom!

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2019/11/29/2339761.jpeg

Sally and Pachi both fell over from the confetti bomb. Third Keroro is here cleaning it up and spraying them with silly string to wake them up! Now they'll all have to work together from now on, because that's just how things work around here!

Until next time, on Keroro and Friends Adventures!

FINAL THOUGHTS

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2019/11/29/2339762.jpeg

It should be apparent how much fun I had building this model kit. Keroro now stands up defending my room next to godzilla miku and his new plushie friends.

I would totally build a model kit again, and I am going to be on the lookout for more of the Keroro gunso model kits so I can complete the set.

Sculpting/modeling (did everything fit together easily without me crying?): 10/10
Painting/stickers (did it come with some cool stickers that brought the piece together?): 10/10
Posing (can it do lots of cool poses without falling over?): 9/10, just because of how the one figure is weighted.
Base (do we count a mech as a base? regardless, there are two other bases that do a good job): 10/10
Packaging: 10/10
Value (we got three figures, you guys!): 10/10
Enjoyment: 10/10

I hope you guys had fun reading my "review". Until next time! (❤ฺ→艸←)

ddarko (13 days ago) #71037829No idea about the source, but neat looking kit/figure! :) Especially love the eye ball changing mechanism lol.

yes that's definitely my favorite feature too because i can change up his expression at any time. i wish i had done a better job putting on his eye stickers, but they were my first stickers i did on the kit. i wonder if the other kits have an extra figure in them also.

Velvet_Bunni (13 days ago) #71039307What an awesome find! And it's cool to see some SGT Frog love! Very rare to see these days. I read the manga and watched a little bit of the anime when I was in middle school, Tamama was my favorite.

my favorite is definitely giroro, but tamama is so funny and full of energy! hopefully i get tamama and put them together so you can see!

64912figs (13 days ago) #71031768This has definitely been the most fun figure review I've read, even if I know absolutely nothing about Keroro.

haha go check out the anime! it's really fun. thanks for the read! <3

Scones (13 days ago) #71032342Thank you for such a cheerful, descriptive and colorful review, Gala! I used to love Keroro Gunso, I only say “used to” because I haven’t seen it in forever, but it is a ridiculously funny show, and it’s so cool that you also like it! And I see cactus-bun Nadeshiko is back as your profile picture. :)
The desk battle was also very cute.

i haven't seen it in forever but building this made me want to watch it again. and yes i broke into my dad's desk and took all of his cat figures on it to stage my battle haha. i was hoping to do it outside but it's still raining! maybe next time.

strawberrylatte (13 days ago) #71032363It's so nice to see a Keroro Gunso review!
I really enjoyed the anime growing up.
Really fun article that was a blast to read.
Keroro turned out awesome too! :)

thank you so much for the read!! it's such a fun anime which i don't feel like it gets enough credit.

Cloudberry (13 days ago) #71033719 I just gotta address the elephant in the room though... You got arcade machines in your house? Do you live in paradise?

lol! we just put floors into our office, and my dad collects Atari vector machines, so we just moved them back in. two of them are at his friend's arcade, awaiting transfer back here. next time i'm in the office doing a review i'll turn them on and show them off further 8)

victorviper (13 days ago) #71034616The first thing I noticed was the Black Widow arcade cabinet. I'm pretty jealous!
This is another one of these items that I never knew existed (the mecha Keroro, that is), so this was an interesting read.

it's so fun playing that! my personal favorite is lunar lander, which is next to it. my dad collects Atari vector machines, and we have 5 (our 6th one was loaned to disney for their Tron game setup and was completely destroyed -- but that's exactly what's supposed to happen with game machines, play them until they go kaput!). next time i write a review in the office i'll definitely turn them on so you can see them light up ;)

i was really surprised to find mecha keroro at barnes n noble because it's so obscure, so i hope i can find the other ones easily.
