Winter WonFes 2020 NSFW Figure Mods and SuchWinter WonFes 2020 NSFW Figure Mods and SuchDiary

I'm over 18
Ciao! Here is the 2nd part of my travel blog to Tokyo from last Feb. 2020. The first BLOG #45370 covered some of the shops I visited while this second focuses on WonFes and a bit of loot I picked up.

Ah, Wonder Festival. It will undoubtedly change in the future, like all large events must as long as we’re in the Age of Covid, but up to now WonFes has been a reliable semi-annual Japanese figure event that serves as a preview for new releases while staying true to its garage kit origins. Figure collectors visiting in person have seldom been disappointed as they’re almost guaranteed to find something on the wish list, be it a special edition from one of the big manufacturers, an older figure on sale from one of the many 2nd hand vendors, or a low-production garage kit offered for the first and only time that particular WF to those arriving early enough to snag it.

Personally, I enjoy collecting a variety of scales and “action/dolls” (as they’re called here on MFC) and it’s always fun at WF to see previews of upcoming figure releases, or check out a colored prototype. Attending a WF for me, however, is centered on exploring the underbelly of the Japanese GK world at that point in time. Yes, like my last trip to WF in 2018 BLOG #39318 most of this blog focuses on stuff from the id check enforced adults-only area at the end of Hall 8 in Makuhari Messe = NSFW.

So if plastic and resin anatomically correct props and modifications designed to make your Figma blush aren’t your thing you may want to use the handy-dandy (now round edged) search bar at the top of your screen and follow your bliss elsewhere. Otherwise, read on for a tour of some WF offerings that require a mature palate, and that rarely get much attention in the MFC community.

The day of WF started out early for us (“us” as my spouse woke up early too and braved the morning cold to join me for the event. She may decide later on to write a bit on her WF experience too...) Anyway, there are recommendations and advice posted in other articles here on MFC and other sites that go into detail on how to survive conventions and large events. Suffice it to say but traveling light is key, so we made sure we were dressed in layers to adjust for the weather and kept space open in our packs, only carrying enough to ward off hunger and stay hydrated for the long day.

Most attendees know that an early arrival is key to have any chance at the limited stock of GKs and small vendor items, to say nothing of the limited releases some manufactures offer. The same holds true for the NSFW stuff. Despite taking one of the earlier trains and getting in line @ 0700 (for an event that opens at 1000) there were still legions of diehards ahead of us.

I snapped this pic while taking a walk after an hour or so - the line on the left snakes around the building lengthwise, and the line on the right is for the restrooms.

But there were a lot more behind us as time passed.

We made it inside 10-15 min or so after they opened the flood gates and went to Hall 8. As early as we were unfortunately it still wasn’t timely enough to pick up one of Blonde Parrot’s tentacle sets. imho Blonde Parrot ENTRY #8080 is one of the best NSFW vendors for figure mods at WF. Designer Minheru ENTRY #9613 ensures the use of quality materials, and generally BP always has something new or a twist on something old - the tentacle set was a re-release of a classic design from years back but they only had 10 or so for sale. Too bad… But I did manage to get everything else they had I wanted - (unfortunately I forgot to take pics of their booth but Moeyo covered it here: www.moeyo.com/a...)

Moving on I was interested to find these 1/12 figure mods below. They’re designed to fit the arms and legs from Frame Arm Girls but the necks can be adjusted to work with Figmas too so I picked up a set. Pretty cool to have a kit figure that can then be easily modified for fully posable arms and legs.

These face plate/hair sets at neighboring booth Queeeen could be used with Azone’s 1/12 size figures but would also match with Frame Arms or even AlphaMax’s Dragondress Sophia, for example ITEM #740643. Oh, and I also picked up a couple of the non-posable 1/12 figures on top left, designed for the heads/faceplates on sale but will work with any 1/12 scale figure.

One of the other smaller vendors had some white and tan round bellies that work with the 1/12 sozai-chan figures (ITEM #740970)

https://farm5.staticflickr.com/65535/49776746503_c0efc44de8_h.jpg

These sozai-chan figures, btw, are great for mods - they can work well with Figmas, Frame Arms, etc. I picked up a few of them on this trip.

Speaking of mods, here's something your Figma Emily only had in her PVC dreams.

https://farm5.staticflickr.com/65535/49776745018_e410d91f41_k.jpg

Designed by a o i at Kuroneko Kousaku it's a set with additional pieces to create just about anything that would be going on beneath a mosaic censor.

Moving on up to 1/3 scale stuff, I came across these great new doll heads by Project Level-D (bodies are Smart Doll and just props for the heads). They, really just a guy and his partner, were unfortunately not selling any though - just showing off what they had to develop future interest. I chatted with him a bit and told him I'd definitely get one when they have them for sale ("Maybe next November's WF," he said...)

https://farm5.staticflickr.com/65535/49776744748_d96a0fa3ec_k.jpg

Tokyo Doll creates high quality silicone dolls essentially made to order. I'd thought about picking a 1/3 scale one up in the past but they are spendy, going for over 70000 yen + shipping, etc. Stopping off at their booth I started chatting with the reps - I always make it a point to talk with the vendors and dealers, fun as well as to learn more about their product. Sometimes it also pays off in that you might be able to talk yourself into a deal. And luckily, that's what happened when they agreed sell me their on-display 1/3 scale "Ann" doll from their Tokyo Classic series. She had a broken left internal wrist joint so they knocked off 35000 from the retail price and threw in some extra doll clothes. Thank you!

Taking Ann off display to wrap her up:

And here she is:

We continued browsing and picking up odds and ends. In addition to the the 1/3 doll above here are a couple other loot pics.

This pic below is a general 1/12 figure parts + Nendoroid mods loot from a variety of vendors. Lots of prep work ahead to get these all ready for prime time...

https://farm5.staticflickr.com/65535/49777608612_5a56fb901a_k.jpg

The two figure mods in this pic below (minus the little zombie baby and top/skirt) I picked up from a small vendor called "Soan" who had come up from Mie prefecture. That's a Ilsa the She-Wolf style hat/pants set and a Baphomet goat head - you can see what they'll look like in the following pic.

https://farm5.staticflickr.com/65535/49777280266_3ccd66cf56_k.jpg

And finally a (soon-to-be) pepsi machine, arcade game table, and funky anime-style barricade

https://farm5.staticflickr.com/65535/49777278776_c5c78fcced_k.jpg.

All in all it was a fun WF. And a good trip that we now look back on fondly and wonder when we'll all be able to hit the road again and see friends and other places. Signing off now and I wish you all well, and that if you made it this far that you enjoyed this little trip through a bit of NSFW WF Winter 2020.

The-Hurricane2 months ago#78173957Hey there, I hope you don't mind me asking on an old article, but where did you get that male body with the red fundoshi? Is that yours? The body looks identical to the Haru figma one and I've been wanting to source more of those bodies without having to pay the insane markups for Haru or having to kitbash my extra one due to his rarity. ^^:
Always great to see a fellow admirer of the R-18 1/12 scale stuff too! There's always so many interesting things to see. A never-gonna-happen grail of mine is a now impossible to refind on the net to even get more info about it set of futa and various chest/body parts meant to be for the predecessors to the Frame Arm Girls (the name is escaping me at the moment). The whole slew of offerings from the sculptor who did them was incredibly well done and nicely stylized. Wish I could find them again but the only mention of them was with pics on some old blog that I can't even find anymore!
Ciao! Always great to to chat with a fellow NSFW collector - and you've got an impressive collection, especially GKs. Very nice.

It sounds like you know more than I do about the red fundoshi fellow - I took that pic at WF 2020 last Feb at one of the dealer booths. It looks like the legit body and I'm not aware of any bootlegs or reissues. Prices on some of the old figmas are crazy now but you could probably kitbash something similar with a generic male figma body.

Interesting you mentioned the Frame Arms Girls futa sets. There are actually a decent number of GK kits for those now, including regular retail like at Yellow Submarine in Akiba (not online, unfortunately). Good luck in the search.

HatReady3 months ago#77890503Oof. So many neat NSFW figures at WF. Makes me wish I could make it up to one. I really like the baphomet custom parts XDYeah, WF is great for custom parts - this little write up obviously doesn’t even touch the tip of the merch iceberg. If I’d had more time and energy I would have taken more pics of all the other 1/12 stuff. You can spend a small fortune on all the different items available.

Baphomet is cool, but the black sozai body I got for the custom had some quality control issues and the joints were very brittle, so the final product is delicate and I had to glue some parts to get more stability. Still it should prove fun down the road.

Maakie3 months ago#77754586Lots of cool loot! I especially love your drinks machine model kit. :)
I've seen some things, but I have a hard time reading farm5.staticfli... , what is even happening here? Is that a flying penis?
Hey! Glad you enjoyed. And I actually finished making the drink machine a week or so ago, and will try and get some pics up. As for your question, it could be a flying penis, but I think the intent is just for it to be disembodied from the rest... After all the set wasn't so deluxe as to include anything more than a couple female waist sections and a couple disembodied male organs.

Very interesting post. I really like all these 1/12 modification parts and appreciate that so many companies are manufacturing them to fit with FA Girls and Megami Device. I see a lot of these on Y!JA after a WonFes or AK Garden but the prices are always jacked way up.
Thanks for sharing your experience!

chobittsu3 months ago#77684025Ah, the good ol' NSFW kinky WonFes kits. It has been a while since I last visited WonFes, but I sure enjoyed the amount of garage kits they were selling there (Both NSFW and SFW) and I always got quite a few nice kits to build and paint.
I went twice in the summer, but the high temparatures were a bit of a drag. Maybe somewhere in the future I will visit the winter edition (when the dust has settled a bit).
Yes, there is a bit of weird kink in hall 8 that’s for sure. BTW I’ve always enjoyed your blog posts on your Japan trips - great detail and always a fun read.

TomTheCat3 months ago#77683710I always like your articles :D This one's no exception. Like you say, it's like a blast from the past, wondering what the world will be like in six or twelve months...
I was staring at your opening picture and thought WTF is this sand-coloured thing... It's a Mk IV tank! I Wonder what it did there? Was it a prop for Girls und Panzer or something? I'm aware you were interested in other things, but perhaps you noticed something walking by?
Edit: Scrolling back up, I notice only now that there's even a Fiat Cinquecento beside it... Amazing...
Thanks Mr. Cat. And good eyes! That is a Girls and Panzer tank, and I think you're probably right with the Mk IV... Same with the Fiat 500. I snapped that pic when we were leaving early in the afternoon but had walked by it up close just a bit earlier as I thought it was a cool scene. There's actually a ton of other stuff I would have liked to have checked out, including all the new upcoming releases/prototypes but we were pretty tired. I'm wondering with future WFs if they'll do timed entry or something until there's a Covid vaccine. Regardless I know it'll be a while before WF will be back in its tradtional context...
