Maakie's Collection #2 Death Note + Strike Witches + HideyoshiMaakie's Collection #2 Death Note + Strike Witches + HideyoshiReview

I was supposed to make this a more common type of blog entry, but covering older loots and Garage Kits got me distracted a bit! So let's go this time!

These blogs cover figures from my collection that have been in storage for a long time due to my emigration. I also use this as an opportunity to practice with my new camera and also appreciate the items I have been owning for a longer time!

The figures we are going to look at today:

Death Note - Yagami Light (Griffon Enterprises) ITEM #41112
Strike Witches 2 - Miyafuji Yoshika - A.G.P. (Bandai) ITEM #103158
Baka to Test to Shoukanjuu - Kinoshita Hideyoshi - Petanko (Penguin Parade) ITEM #78843

Death Note - Yagami Light (Griffon Enterprises) ITEM #41112

My husband and I pre-ordered this figure during it's original pre-order date. My husband is not really into figures or anime, but he does love Death Note, which makes this figure very special to me as he was also really excited about this one. Back in 2010 we were both still students, which made it a lot of money for us, but I knew with the dire market for Light figures, this was not something I wanted to miss out on. Now 10 years later there are more Light figures on the market, but none of them match the quality of this one. I was really hoping for ITEM #569393 to turn out well...

Anyhow, let's take a look at Griffon's Light! Light is a prepainted garage kit released by Griffon Enterprises, a manufacturer we all love to hate, but who has put some very interesting items on the market, including this one.

This figure is very well known for it's leaning issues, as only the right foot it has a pin for attachment to the base. I have used blu-tac and a bit of soft fabric to give Light some more stability. These pictures do confirm I need to add some more under his right foot to make him stand completely upright.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/09/14/2519811.jpeg

This is definitely one of his better angles, that face is magnificent!

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/09/14/2519813.jpeg

No, he is not for sale. Unless you offer me: View spoilerHide spoilerhttps://media.tenor.com/images/faf934d304adf3abe163e3a6d192c178/tenor.gif

Jokes aside, because of this figure being hunted after by many people, I have received many inquiries from people about wanting to buy him from me. This all while I never even listed or mentioned I wanted to sell him, people would literally see him on my profile and PM me about him. Luckily most of that bothering has gone down in more recent years (might be because of my profile becoming more full with other figures, ha!).

I was absolutely floored with this figure when I got him almost 10 years ago. Nowadays he still looks really good, especially the scythe. You could nitpick a bit at some parts of the sculpt feeling a bit thick, such as his coat.

So close to his 2D representations~

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/09/14/2519819.jpeg

He only has good angles~

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/09/14/2519821.jpeg

I like the shine on his eyes.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/09/14/2519823.jpeg

His base has a plaque with the name of the series and character. The base is also a dust magnet as I just had cleaned it before the photoshoot and the white fiber you see is from my light box.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/09/14/2519820.jpeg

The figure has now been put on a random shelf while I am setting up my display cabinets at my new place. We have been thinking however of making a dedicated display location for this figure, possibly in the hallway as we have a small nook there in which he could fit.

This is absolutely a centerpiece I would only let go of if I am in dire money issues or would quit collecting altogether. Now to just fix up his other foot and get working on a good display spot!

Strike Witches 2 - Miyafuji Yoshika - A.G.P. (Bandai) ITEM #103158

An action figure from the Armor Girls Project ENTRY #32774 line. I own one other A.G.P. figure, Gertrud Barkhorn ITEM #109652 , which I have reviewed here BLOG #45198 .

While not actively collecting these, I have been thinking about buying more A.G.P.'s, as their prices are quite low and you get a lot more accessories than with the average action figure.

For this specific Yoshika A.G.P., I got her as part of my Secret Santa 2014 PICTURE #1310213 gift!

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/09/14/2519829.jpeg

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/09/14/2519830.jpeg

I really like the design of these boxes, you can see most of the parts clearly in the box and because the boxes are not that wide, they are easy to store!

I decided to set up Yoshika in my favorite posing option. She is really big and impressive this way!

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/09/14/2519831.jpeg

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/09/14/2519832.jpeg

I know that 'officially' the circle would have to be in front of her, but I don't like how that blocks so much of her view.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/09/14/2519833.jpeg

Oh no! Only during editing on the computer I realized one of her legs is upside down!!! I directly ran to my display cabinet to fix her up. I guess I was too excited about setting her up in this pose again to realize my mistake, haha!

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/09/14/2519834.jpeg

Her expression is nice, but nowhere near the quality of other action figure lines of similar scale, such as Figma.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/09/14/2519835.jpeg

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/09/14/2519836.jpeg

The shooting parts are so cool!

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/09/14/2519837.jpeg

Well, this whole figure is cool! If you can grab her for a good price, I definitely recommend her!

Baka to Test to Shoukanjuu - Kinoshita Hideyoshi - Petanko (Penguin Parade) ITEM #78843

The Petanko ENTRY #29358 figures are like an oversized trading figure all posed in a similar cutesy way.

I had been eyeing this figure during it's release/pre-order time in 2012, but couldn't get myself to pay ¥2,500 for what is a big trading figure. Eventually I ended up getting this one as part of a trade with another collector in 2014.

I forgot to make pictures of the box this time, but I have this older picture from when I originally got him: PICTURE #1196285 .

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/09/14/2519824.jpeg

My my, he keeps on being cute, hehe!

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/09/14/2519825.jpeg

The characteristic shape of his hair has been sculpted well.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/09/14/2519826.jpeg

The pose is also adorable!

But you can see some mishaps in paint on his uniform and in general the sculpt being a bit simple.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/09/14/2519827.jpeg

I love him being part of my bigger Hideyoshi collection, but as a figure by itself I would only recommend him if you combine him in a bigger purchase and/or get him on sale.

And to finish it!

For those who read all this way, thank you! My next blog will probably be a figure review, but might be another entry for this blog type!

I hope you enjoyed this blog, you could also check my other ones when interested! As promised, for every new blog I would fix the image hosting of an older blog. On request I have fixed:

victorviper4 months ago#83749080At first, I couldn't quite tell if the Light figure was a leaner or if he was just posing with a little flair :).
Leaning issues aside, that Light figure seems really well done, and it goes to show that Griffon could make good figures when they set their minds to it. Unfortunately, they also made enough not-so-good figures that they are no longer with us...

Hehe, I fixed him up after the pictures, the pictures definitely make it look even more dramatic. ^^''

The unpainted + prepainted GK's and cold casts I have from Griffon are all great, which really makes me think that PVC figures just weren't their best point or they might not have the best factory/process for it. Although I have never found proof, I still have the theory that for their PVC pieces they just went with the cheapest/easiest available/best offer factory, which explains the huge variation with figure quality in their PVC's. The coldcasts and GK's are all lower quantity and possibly made within Japan. Just my theory, though! :D

tsukky_4 months ago#83427001Hi. I had to check your blog post because I love Light and Death Note of course.
I'm jealous of this Light figure. He looks nice. Thankfully I have nendoroids from Death Note (L and Light) which had release recently (version 2.0). I'm pleased with them. I didn't even hunt for first release nendoroids from Death Note because they're hideous for me xDD. I'm sad that Ryuuk didn't get rerelease. I will hunt him may be.
In 2019 came out scale figure of Light and L from MegaHouse ITEM #781002 but it seemed to be overpriced, at least for me so I didn't order it.
It's kind of hilarious how different Light's face can look. I mean this photo/comparison picture/2375365...
I'm curious of your opinion on this xD

It would have been nice if the Griffon figure was produced in higher numbers, but it might have something to do with it being a 'prepainted Garage Kit' rather than a 'normal' massproduced figure.

I have been thinking about getting more DN items, but I will first set up all my shelves to see what fits where. :) Those newer Nendoroids are very nice.

I wasn't really a big fan of the MegaHouse scaled, and the final product is to me so-so. Might be nice to pick up for a good price one day, but not the full price.

Oh! I actually replied in the comments of a similar picture PICTURE #2373082 with your answer haha. But in short, I think Griffon's Light nailed the face the most. The RAH is also good looking, but the face is a bit too long. I don't think Griffon's Light will be 'beat' soon unless a manufacturer like Good Smile Company, Kotobukiya or Alter steps in with a figure of him.

AgentDrafire4 months ago#83428696Ahhh, Death Note, yet another anime I need to watch! The Light figure looks amazing, I love the expression and scythe! And the other figures in your collection are really cool too, I loved looking at every single one of them!

Oooh~ You're in for a treat! DN is very good! :) And it makes me happy to hear that! More blogs with more figures from my collection are coming up soon(-ish)!
