Hello Everyone! ^-^
Welcome to another quick review article. Today I am featuring Hanako-Kun from Jibaku Shounen Hanako-Kun.

A lot of people seem to be excited for him on the site, so I decided to review him for anyone who is either still waiting for him to arrive or may be on the fence about ordering. Let’s get started shall we?

(∩`-´)⊃☆゚.*・。゚

I preordered Hanako-kun from AmiAmi and he shipped to me via DHL. If you know anything about DHL, they usually ship super fast. I got him like, the second day after he shipped.

So who is Hanako-Kun? You know that Japanese urban legend about how if you knock on the third stall of the third floor female bathroom three times, a ghost girl named Hanako-san will appear to grant your wish? That’s Hanako, except he’s a boy. And leader of the Seven Mysteries of the academy. Befriending the main heroine of the story, Hanako-kun is a mischievous, playful ghost who helps navigate the supernatural mysteries of their setting. The anime premiered in January this year, which led viewers to discover it’s beautifully illustrated manga, quickly making the title rise in popularity. So of course, many people were excited when this nendoroid was announced.

(These came out a little blurry for some reason, sorry about that!)

Hanako-kun comes in a standard nendoroid box featuring pictures of all the various poses you can put him in. As you can see, I took these pictures after I removed the nendo and it’s parts from the box. I no longer keep my nendos in their boxes and instead have a bin system for easy access. It’s a pretty normal box if you collect nendos like me, so I won’t focus on it too much. I will say the blister comes in two parts so I don't have to suffer those annoying plastic bags that sometimes hold the extra parts. So while I’m not too crazy about packaging because I’m so used to nendoroid boxes, I’ll give a higher score than usual just for that!

Sculpting of Hanako is pretty good and suffers no mishaps. His cape flows behind him for a dramatic look; it forms around his body without looking out of place or awkward. I do like how the uniform blazer fans out and it really adds to his almost childlike personality. I find myself looking at his hair bangs a lot for some reason. I suppose I like how they’re drawn in the manga so I find their translation in nendo form quite satisfactory. I like the smoothness and material used for his hakujoudai as well. Most of his accessories would be pretty easy to mess up on if it were done by a lower ranked company, but Orange Rouge stays consistent throughout the whole nendo.

Paint job on Hanako-kun is thankfully good. Sometimes you get a nendo without clean lines or a stray air bubble. It can be mildly annoying but my Hanako-kun managed to escape any of that. The red lining of his uniform and hat look like they're on the verge of bleeding out but they don’t. So while not crisp and clean as I would like, it still gets a good grade based on that.

I will say, there were some complaints on Hanako’s final look since it’s based more so on the anime art and not the manga’s. As mentioned earlier, Aida, the illustrator for team Aidalro that creates Jibaku Shounen Hanako- Kun, does some amazing work. They play with colors very well and have a distinct look in both their black and white paneling and colored illustrations. Orange Rouge did not try to copy manga Hanako, and while I do prefer the manga’s art, I don’t blame them. I’d rather them implement the easier anime art than mess up whilst trying to mimic Aida’s style.

And the anime look isn’t bad! Hanako-kun is still a cutie patootie. I think the face plates capture his personality and expressions well.

And now onto posing: Hanako comes with more extra parts than I realized? He has multiple hands, and those arms that are split in two parts from the shoulder for more movement. Since he floats, he comes with two sets of legs as well. It’s just been a while since I’ve seen a newer nendoroid have this much versatility when it comes to just posing capabilities. Please GSC/Orange Rouge, if you skimp out of accessories, at least keep giving me extra body parts.

And lastly enjoyment! I really enjoyed playing with Hanako-kun. There are nendos out there that are nerve wracking to pose and change parts with. Or they have too small holes for the stand peg, or they have leg or arm that falls out (looking at the two Promare nendos I got as well (-公- ;)), but this nendo is luckily not one of these. It was smooth sailings fiddling with him and while he did have a fall on my desk, it was because I was brave enough to try to have him sit on the edge of my bookshelf.

I won’t go into the figure's base because it’s a regular shmegular nendo base, but it gets the job done. No complaints. But I will take this moment to proclaim that I am so, so happy they included a Mokke with him. It’s such a cute little buddy, I want to give it candy just for being so adorable.

And that’s the end of my review! I hope it helped you out just a little if you’re curious about him. If you haven’t gotten him yet or you’re still deciding to purchase him, I would hurry and get on that. He’s out of stock at GSC and preorders are closed on the US site. AmiAmi is also a no go and Saloris Japan has already raised the price on him of course. I found him on Hobby Search for his retail price but for how long he’ll stay up there, I’m not sure. Point is, he’s worth it so buy while you can!

Thank you for reading! Have a good one everyone and stay safe out there!

Bah-Roo1 month ago#86861759I really hope they make other characters to go with him, at the very least Nene. His hat looks huge! I still don’t love the way his eyes look, I think they could’ve done a slightly better job there. But overall he looks pretty good! Also, after I finished the anime I really wanted more so I went and read the manga. It’s very rare for me to do that, so it’s a testament to how good the series is! I’m not very good at keeping up with manga, though. I like to read it in big batches and don’t enjoy waiting for regular updates. So not sure when I will pick it back up again.

Definitely hoping for a Nene too! And I feel you on manga. I end up waiting a couple of months before picking up a title again because waiting weekly/monthly just isn't enjoyable

I enjoyed reading this review btw, rly good eye for detail with the paint job and assembly (a neglected aspect of nendo reviews) in particular, and great photos showing off the posing!

Thank you for noticing! As someone who tries to pose my nendos a lot, versatility means a lot to me. Thanks for the comment as well. :D

Amazing! I can see why people were so hyped for this nendoroid (well, presumably they like the series too) :o

The floating pose is incredible, I have one other floating nendo and it's one of my favourites (ITEM #689333), but Hanako-kun looks so natural and ethereal here!
