ZF2's 2020 Awards!ZF2's 2020 Awards!Diary

Jesus Christ what a year. Not much else to say besides that. So onto the Top Five list! As standard for these lists (2019 and 2018) I will take five figures I bought this year and were released this year and give them awards that don't impact anything. I will also bestow the greatest award, the "Best Anime Of The Year" reward for any new anime of this year. So let's get started!

Number 5; Nendoroid Ozymandias
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/12/31/2596339.jpeg
To be perfectly honest this wasn't my best year for Nendoroid. No, I don't mean there hasn't been any good Nendoroids, but there weren't many released this year... that weren't delayed by this whole global pandemic at the time of this writing. Well Ozymandias arrived just before Christmas and made a great little gift for under the tree. Great sculpt, fair amount of accessories, and while I don't care for FGO all that much anymore I do have a soft-spot for Ozzy. Him and his rockin' abs.

Number 4; Star Wars The Black Series Rebel Hoth Trooper
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/12/31/2596334.jpeg
The Star Wars Black Series has been one of my absolute favorite action figure lines of current memory, with a fantastic line up of character and wonderful sculpts. The Rebel Hoth Trooper has been one of my all-time favorite designs so seeing it translate so well into the Black Series was a dream come true. He comes with tons of accessories, for a Black Series, and two face plates. A army builders dream and a damn fine figure. There were a lot of Black Series figures that could have made this list, but the Rebel Hoth Trooper beats them all.

Number 3; Transformers Earthrise Optimus Prime
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/12/31/2596336.jpeg

Speaking of Hasbro, Transformers figures have been the best they have ever been in years. The War For Cybertron trilogy has been great, or the toys at least, and dropping earlier this year Earthrise Optimus Prime is many collectors wildest dream come true; in an affordable package! Taking design ques from the Bumblebee Optimus Prime, which you might remember won my Best Figure of 2019 award, this Optimus is heavy on the articulation with great paint apps, an opening chest with Matrix of Leadership, his trailer, and a transformation scheme that doesn't drive me up the wall. And all from a standard fifty-dollar figure. Yes the Masterpiece figures exist, but honestly this might be one of the best Primes ever released.

Number 2; Figma Arthur Pendragon (A.K.A Brober)
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/12/31/2596338.jpeg
I said it once, and I'll say it again.

GUESS WHO'S RIGHT, BITCHES?!?

From once a character I got flak for even suggesting he should get a Figma to one of the best Figmas we have gotten in years. You can read my gushing review here, but to give you a TL;DR he combines fantastic articulation and sculpting to be a Figma worth high praise. He is the shining example of how Figmas should be... but you know, with more accessories. And a price tag that doesn't make the next figure on the list embarrassed.

The Number 1 Figure of the Year
Oh how I ummed, oh how I erred. This year really had some great figures come out despite the global pandemic; finding some of them or even getting them is an entirely different story. I had to think long and hard of whom I wanted to give the number 1 spot to, and in the end it didn't go to Brober but instead a recurring character on my lists.

Hot Toys Deluxe Luke Skywalker

Now some might say it's unfair that the high-end collectable makes the number 1 spot when the last years spot went to Optimus Prime. My response is that this is my list, and I'll do what I want! Luke is what you'd expect from Hot Toys with an amazing sculpt, good amount of accessories, and a fair amount of articulation what with the tailor-made fabric outfit. I have some gripes about the figure, like how I want the eyes to be movable but at the same time these gripes are very minor compared to the excellence of this figure. He was worth the wait... now if only I could pose Hot Toys.

2020 Best Anime Of The Year: Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yashahime.PNG

Well much like last year I ran into a problem where the anime I wanted to give this award to had... issues. It was supposed to go to Strike Witches Road To Berlin but my feelings on the recent Strike Witches season is akin to what Star Wars fans feel about the last five years of Star Wars. To put it mildly. So the award was planned to go to Uzaki-chan wa Asobitai!, which not only did I really like but was the only anime I watched this entire year. I would add this says something about the state of the anime industry, but I like Dog Days and therefore my opinion doesn't matter.

But I realized a legal loophole in the rules I made up. I said the anime had to start this year, never said about it ending. And therefore Yashahime wins the Best Anime Of The Year award. Is it a great anime? Not particularly. Does it have flaws? Absolutely. But you know what? It's fun. It reminds me of the anime I hold dear to me and with characters I actually quite like and a story I'm invested in, I think it's fair to say Yashahime should win my Best Anime Of The Year award.

And there you have my top five and the Best Anime Of the Year. All voted by me, for me, with a special committee consisting of me.

With that all said and done I'm ZF2 signing out for today. Fuck you, 2020.

Titan_Scientist1 month ago#89294996The Ozy nendoroid is so great. I have a lot of Fate nendoroids at this point, but I think he probably comes in as one of my favourites.
Also, wow, I didn't realise how many of my nendoroids were released this year, because this year feels like it's been three years long. I felt like Miles and Gwen were released ages ago.

Next year is going to be really heavy for me Nendoroid wise. Woo!

AcePlatinum1 month ago#89295031Ah yes, but does #3 come with an anti aircraft trailer, useless mini figures, more accessories for $400? I think not xD
(MP-44 will forever be ragged on, #backlivesmatter)
Optimus looks good! Do you think they will release more figures (like G1 characters) down the line?

Warpath and Inferno are getting/got released and they seem to be using the molds a lot more. Personally I like this new style they’re going with being G1 accurate but also affordable and still having plenty of characters. More Deceptions would be nice.
