Today, we'll be reviewing a very niche figure from a company whose name can elicit strong sentiments both good and bad, Insight's Suehiro-chan. Her skintight outfit means that some of the shots in this review could be considered NSFW.

About the character/figure: Suehiro is an original character who has appeared in a number of different figures made by Insight ENTRY #127192, one of the many, many subsidiaries of B'Full ENTRY #8096.

This figure was originally sold directly from Insight/B'Full using a lottery system. Customers ordering the figure received either this figure or one of 4 rarer color variants as seen below (picture uploaded to MFC by user BadWolfVindici BADWOLFVINDICI)

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2019/05/24/2220138.jpeg

Additionally, Suehiro has been the subject of two other Insight figures ITEM #826465 and ITEM #877491, both of which in typical Insight style have a number of variants including large and small breast versions.

Packaging----------NA

Base----------NA

I bought my figure from an eBay seller who had gotten rid of the figure box, and most of these figures that I have seen for sale have not included the original box. This is because of two reasons - one, the box is rather plain; it is just a plain white box with the character's name, and two, the original packaging is not very good. B'Full/Insight/FOTS has been notorious for subpar packaging, and for this figure Suehiro is protected only by some foam cushioning and a little bubble wrap.

When I briefly mentioned this figure in a recent loot post, MFC user Tharglet was kind enough to provide some photos of the original packing if you want to see what this looked like.
MFC link: blogposts.php?m...

Also, apparently I ended up with a base that was mismatched to the figure, either by the seller from whom I bought the figure or Insight, so no base today. Fortunately, with her kneeling pose, she does not need a base anyway.

Posing----------8/10

This figure gives Suehiro-chan a simple kneeling pose, and so let's take a look at her.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2021/03/13/2659414.jpeg

It's not a flashy pose, but it works well enough. Do notice that because of the way her bangs hang in her face, the bangs will significantly hide her face from certain angles.

Sculpting----------8/10
Painting----------7.5/10

B'Full/Insight/Pulchra are often criticized but I found the overall quality of this figure to be surprisingly decent. My main concerns stem from the use of 3D printed materials; more on that in a moment.

I really like the design of Suehiro's cute face, as her very cute appearance is a good match for the angel theme of the figure. In all of the Insight figures of this character, she is depicted as a catgirl, and the cat ears add to her cuteness.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2021/03/13/2659415.jpeg

Here's the first instance of issues with the 3D printed material. If you look closely, you can see those little horizontal ridges in her hair which I assume are artifacts of the 3D printing process. Also, the material used for her hair is verrrrry brittle, and I was a little mortified to handle her any more than necessary. In particular, I can easily imagine her ahoge getting broken.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2021/03/13/2659416.jpeg

I like the headdress she is wearing, as it's kind of a mashup of a cross and a halo. It's quite abstract but at the same time it clearly references her angelic nature.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2021/03/13/2659417.jpeg

The tips of her hair are really quite nicely sculpted, as they are not clumpy in any way. However, you can more 3D printing artifacts there in her hair. Additionally, her wings are separate pieces, and as you can see the wings wanted to work themselves loose just when I was moving her around to take these photos. Therefore, you'll want to be very careful when moving her around. Also, in some of the photos, you might notice little white spots in her hair; those are not painting flaws, rather I wiped her down with a paper towel before taking these photos (the shiny black suit shows every speck of dust!), and the texture of her hair is quite rough, resulting in some little bits of paper towel left behind...

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2021/03/13/2659418.jpeg

There are a couple of interesting things in the photo below. I like the high-necked design of her bodysuit, and the gold collar with the hasp is quite intricate, and the collar gives a little bit of a bondage vibe to the figure's design.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2021/03/13/2659419.jpeg

A key element of this figure is the skintight bodysuit which draws attention to her large breasts. The other Insight Suehiro figures have large or small breast options, but interestingly this figure has only a single breast size option. Because the suit is shiny and skintight, I assume it would be made of latex.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2021/03/13/2659420.jpeg

The latex suit combined with the collar combined with her cute face and angel features makes for a very interesting design IMO - a cute angel girl in bondage.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2021/03/13/2659421.jpeg

Note all the various sculpted in patterns on the bodysuit. Those are interesting details.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2021/03/13/2659422.jpeg

The sculpt of the zipper is pretty good, although the painting of the zipper could be better. The zipper's width is distinctly narrower/wider in various spots.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2021/03/13/2659423.jpeg

Her gold boots/greaves are very interesting with the intricate patterns on there. The gold boots give her almost an avian feel.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2021/03/13/2659424.jpeg

It is worth noting that Suehiro is feather-light, and many items from B'Full which are made from PVC-L and PMMA and 3D printed are very hollow inside (as can be seen here PICTURE #2335793 don't click if the sight of shattered figures bothers you!), and I suspect Suehiro is probably mostly hollow. Aside from the increased risk of breakage, I've seen comments about the hollow material bending/deforming over time, and I hope that large gap between her boot and the rest of her leg is not an early symptom of this...

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2021/03/13/2659425.jpeg

Note how the zipper on the bodysuit extends all the way to the back of her outfit; that is a nice detail. Also her suit has more of those little inlays on her butt cheeks :).

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2021/03/13/2659426.jpeg

The sculpting on the bottom of her shoe is very detailed!

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2021/03/13/2659427.jpeg

I like how Insight handled the wings. They are clear in spots, but more opaque in others, particularly near the tips. I like all the texture on there as well.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2021/03/13/2659428.jpeg

Scale Comparison

Insight lists Suehiro at 1/7 scale, and that scale is...shall we say quite generous. With her sitting pose, she measures just under 4 inches (10 cm) in height at her tallest point, and we'll see in a moment how this translates into an actual scale.

Two cute catgirls :). I assume that Suehiro and Kobato Hasegawa are not too different in stature, and Max Factory's Kobato ITEM #98882 is a very large 1/7 scale (probably more like 1/6.5). In any event, you can see that Kobato is much larger.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2021/03/13/2659430.jpeg

I'd also assume that Suehiro and Wendy Garret are similar in height, and Max Factory's Wendy ITEM #418 is 1/8 scale. Therefore, I would say that Suehiro's true scale is either a smallish 1/8 or a large 1/9.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2021/03/13/2659431.jpeg

If you are wondering where the fluffy rug I used in these photos came from, I borrowed it from Kotobukiya's Kasumi Yashiro ITEM #166169. Kasumi is a petite girl, and that figure is 1/6 scale for comparison.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2021/03/13/2659429.jpeg

Overall verdict and enjoyment----------9/10

Arguments for: I think the theme (cute and innocent angel catgirl in latex bondage suit) is quite a clever one and it hits many of my moe points, and there are some really nice details (the wings, the sculpt of the collar, and some of the details on her shiny black bodysuit).

Arguments against: Tiny scale, substandard packaging, some quirks in finish presumably because of the 3D printed material, the PVC-L material seems precariously fragile and I wonder if the material will begin to warp/deform long term.

All in all, this is a figure where the whole IMO is greater than the sum of the parts, and despite some flaws and QC concerns, Insight has produced a very interesting figure here, and I am glad that I bought her.

Availability (as of this writing)

Not common.

Presumably because this figure was distributed lottery-style direct from the manufacturer (and possibly because it is such a fragile figure) this is not one of those items you will find every time you scan the preowned sites, and only 12 people on MFC claim to own either this figure or one of the rarer color variants. As I write this, Mandarake has one of the (R) rarity ones listed for 7500 yen, but with uncommon items like this one, prices can vary drastically. I found this one on eBay for 50 bucks, and at that price it was worth rolling the dice that she would arrive at my doorstep intact, and at that price I'm quite happy with my purchase.

victorviper8 days ago#95204568That's the thing with Insight/FOTS/Pulchra/B'Full. They have some very interesting designs, but with the cheapness of the materials and the often suspect packaging, I am hesitant to pay full price for their items. But, for the price I paid for this one I;m satisfied I got my money's worth.
I kind of like the SR (dark wings) and the SSR (sliver hair and boots) color variants, but those seem borderline impossible to find.

I think for me the price maybe needs to drop even lower before I would dare to buy them. Also like you said in the review I would prefer to get them locally (or at least within Europe for me then) so that there is less chance of the package damaging/item breaking. Still I feel like you were super lucky there wasn't even a small thing to fix, as I have seen so many figures from this manufacturer with broken fingers, toes, hair strands etc.

It makes me wonder what the total amount made for them was. It is known that all of Fots (and related brands) are made in low quantities, so then these more rare colors are even lower quantities. But how low? :) Is it like a golden ticket or is secretly 50% of them in another color? :) It would be imo more fun if you can say you have 1 of 25 of a specific color version, but I guess keeping it secret makes more sense for the manufacturer.

Maakie9 days ago#95101358Very happy to see a review of this one as the whole Insight brand is just...odd...but they have some great designs! I also really love the color version you have for this figure. But wow, 1/7!! What a joke, she is way smaller!
Those 3D printing artifacts are really a no for me, no matter how much I like the style of some figures and the details here also (like the collar) are pretty nice. Maybe...maybe if one day I find one of them for really really cheap, but I refuse to pay scaled figure prices for such a figure.
Thanks for the review. :)

victorviper1 month ago#94048722Fair enough, as ultimately we all like what we like.
For me, the shiny black outfit was one of the major selling points of the figure, and it matches a number of other figures in my collection like ITEM #166927, ITEM #250831, ITEM #153, ITEM #236652, and a number of others.
She also matches well with the Union Creative "Darkness" To Love Ru figures, like ITEM #945987. It's just a shame that her scale is so tiny.

Absolutely. Most of the ones you don't have the same degree of blackness. I'm basically talking about the whole outfit being black versus a bikini where you have the skin colors to tone down the degree of blackness. So, I don't have the same reaction to those figures you listed. I have figures with glossy black paint as well (this is probably the most glossy paint ITEM #806247) so that's why I originally said that it is the whole color scheme because I feel like black glossy paint in my Black Sister figure isn't overwhelming. Just my tastes.
dtindcarea1 month ago#94039679Sure, the black is too glossy/harsh for me and it looks too "liquidy". Maybe you could say it's liquid latex? Don't know. Plus, the amount of black gloss is overwhelming to my eye.
If they painted a smaller piece of the figure with it, it probably would of been fine.
But, my eye is overwhelmed by it and it detracts from the other parts of the figure. Purple wings are too soft relative to the harshness of the glossy black and the gold boots go better with it but aren't enough to tone down the black gloss.

This is clearly a niche figure, and anyone who is not partial to the cute face/big boobs/skintight latex outfit probably won't like this one.
I actually do like the color scheme though, as the gloss black of the outfit and the gold greaves contrast in an interesting way. If I may ask, what about the color scheme don't you like?

tharglet1 month ago#93999609Yeah, those horizontal lines are artefacts of 3D printing - with 3D printing, the print is built up in layers, so you'll get those lines. If you turn her over, you'll quite markedly see the lines on her boots.
Also you got a base upgrade - she should've come with a clear acrylic disc. The base references this artist - ENTRY #144442, but they do figures that fit into the FOTS line, not the Insight one. Can't work out which figure that base actually belongs to. Here is the sad excuse it should've come with.
With the scale, yeah, she's really short if she's a 1/7. Like 4 foot odd.

The boots like her hair do in fact show the same printing artifacts and their finish is also quite rough to the touch.

When I unboxed this figure, the initial eye test told me she was quite small, but I was a little surprised to see just how small she was when I took a few shots of Suehiro with other figures. For example, I was kind of shocked to see how small she was next to Kobato.

When I found this figure on eBay, I recall that the seller was selling (dumping) a bunch of other FOTS/Pulchra figures and so I assume that they dumped the original packaging for most of them and didn't use the bases, so I just got some random base :). Presumably, they just had a bunch of bases laying around...

dtindcarea1 month ago#93999562Great review and photos as always. You are very good at making clear and important points in your writing and photos. Please don't take offense to it, but I have to say that this figure just isn't my "cup of tea". When I saw the first photo my initial thought was "this figure is UGLY". I think my initial reaction was simply the result of how much I dislike the color scheme more than anything else as the sculpt and character aren't bad. Anyway, even though I have no interest in the figure, it was still an interesting read so thanks for the article.
