1/7 Scale Acrylic Stands?!1/7 Scale Acrylic Stands?!Review

So apparently, 1/7 acrylic stands are a thing now - and yep, just as the name implies, they are acrylic stands but in 1/7 size! They're actually labeled on AmiAmi as 'BIG' (yes, in capital letters) and I am digging them! Let's see some size comparisons, shall we?

Once again, excuse the shitty pictures; it's nighttime and I only had my phone TvT;;;

On their own, they look like pretty standard acrylic stands. It's like I took this picture of them way zoomed in, so you don't really see their true size. But...

vs. 1/8 standing figure

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51012551420_e5c2179106_z.jpg
Makoto looks like a kid standing next to Ash! X'D

Compared to the 1/8 pair figure of Ash and Eiji, Ash is definitely a giant.

vs. prize figures

Prize figures are usually not scaled, but they're sometimes closer to 1/8 or 1/7 sizing. Let's take a look at a few!

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51081736661_93c425b8e1_z.jpg
WBC is actually one of my taller figures! But even he pales in comparison to Ash.

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51081829852_68a7ffafef_z.jpg
Ghost Miku is also on the bigger side; she's actually just a tiiiiny bit taller than 1/8 Makoto, as seen in the picture below:

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51012551425_a40bf36c3b_z.jpg

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51081041128_f347da2083_z.jpg
Sakura Miku looks like a child compared to him X'D

vs. Normal-sized Acrylic Stands

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51081736676_cc0a60475f_z.jpg
The smaller Ash acrylic stand is actually smaller than standard-sized acrylic stands (there isn't a scale nor universal standard size for acrylic stands usually, but from the acrylic stands I own and from what I observed, that small Ash is pretty small); his size doesn't even compare.

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51081829827_dd4db9079b_z.jpg
On the other hand, this Hitorijime couple acrylic stand is closest to "standard size" of acrylic stands - and even then, it doesn't stand at even half of the 1/7!

vs. an "actual" 1/7

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51081736716_2c06e6550c_z.jpg
Unfortunately, as I do not collect scales as much as nendoroids, I don't have a "true" 1/7 to compare him against (i.e. a standing one). The MakoHaru Alter figure is listed as 1/7, so this is the closest comparison I can give. It seems like the proportions, though, are fairly similar!

vs. Nendoroid

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51012550935_54d6983434_z.jpg
Yep. The nendoroids are TINY compared to this giant.

vs. 1/6 scale

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51081736646_d5faf44c73_z.jpg
Now this will really bring home just how huge these stands are exactly! RAH are 1/6 scale. Ciel is, of course, a shortboi - so his RAH is still actually shorter than Ash!

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51081041088_5dea64cdc1_z.jpg
On the other hand, Sebastian - who is a nice 30 cm - is definitely taller than Ash. But not by much! You can still see just how big it really is.

Now what do I think of 1/7 acrylic stands? I think they're freaking awesome. It's almost like having a figure for like, not even 1/4 of the price of a scale these days, especially a 1/7 scale! I preordered him and Eiji for 2800 yen each at AmiAmi. This is such a great alternative for collectors on a budget, and I imagine it might be easier to produce as well! I hope more companies (or at least, this specific company) come out with more characters. I think this is a nice alternative to figures if you just want to either fill up a shrine, or have some other merch of a character/series but you don't want to drop big money on expensive scales. And it's also a nice way to keep the fans of secondary characters and characters who will probably never get a scale or a nendo or a figure of any sort happy!

How about you guys, what do you think of 1/7 acrylic stands? Should they come out with more? Are they unnecessary and redundant because scales already exist? Share your thoughts! :D

Edit: valuable information about acrylic stands from miyari!

miyari8 months ago#94753759View spoilerHide spoilerDAMN I am bummed out I missed those. I enjoy collecting acrylic stands (along with figures) and like the way they compliment figure displays.
That being said, larger acrylic stands aren't necessarily "new," though declaring them at a set scale certainly seems to be. Here's a photo of one of my largest officially licensed acrylic stands, released in 2017 and which does not have any declared scale, next to a 1/7 scale figure.

I'm going to put a BIG FAT DISCLAIMER HERE for people who may be new to acrylic stand collecting that on MFC (and on retailer sites) stands categorized/described as "Big Acrylic Stand" or "Big Acrylic Chara Stand" are typically NOT actually "BIG."
The term/branding/whatever is used constantly to refer to stands ranging from 3"-8" tall. Acrylic stands which are actually hugenormous "big" (like the 1/7 Ash) are extremely few and far between. Don't be fooled!

Thank you so much for sharing valuable information! I am editing my article to include this as a quote so people who stumble upon the article later are informed. Just in case your comment gets buried! :D

(Victor looks GOOD, though <3 <3 <3 I wish I had gotten more YoI acrylic stands back then, hahaha!)

Woah, I didn't expect this article to garner so much attention! Thank you to everyone who replied and shared their thoughts <3

atimidtempest8 months ago#94753657I love acrylic stands! Some of them are so pretty, and they're a nice cheap alternative for characters that either don't have figures.
How did you know that these were 1/7 scale? There's an acrylic stand on AmiAmi that's listed BIG as well, and I'm wondering if they're also 1/7 scale. Your comparison pictures are super useful for me as I consider my overall display haha.

To answer your question: it's listed as 1/7 on the MFC page itself! :D If you look at either Ash or Eiji, you'll see 1/7 under 'scale & dimensions'. ^u^

They're definitely not an alternative to me (I like figures because they're 3D and shaded), but if that's all my favorite character had, I'd certainly buy it and display it proudly alongside my figures. I like stands as a whole, though, as they're nice decorations for narrow shelves. 1/7 stands may be slightly too big for me, though. The biggest one I have is one of those standard ones you showed. My brother has a HUGE stand of Salieri from Fate though, and it takes up a good chunk of his shelf. Given my limited remaining space, I don't think I'd look into purposely getting those kinds of stands. ^^;.

They're cool but I'd rather have a figure and it seems fragile at that size. Would I buy one of a favourite character though? Of course.
I saw one of Ichigo from Aikatsu that was at LEAST this size, possibly 1/6 or higher and it just looked really fragile.

Maybe it's some photo trickery and it's not that big but it looks huge here. That figure in the bottom right is 1/12 scale (I own some of the other ones in the set and it's really not that small!) and it looks tiny next to it, it's also closer to the camera which means it should look larger in perspective than if they were side by side.

These are very nice, if it's just going to be a cut out might as well be big. Good for extra decorating especially if you snag them for characters who don't otherwise have figures. I never seem to find characters I want without it being overpriced for a acrylic stand, but wouldn't mind a few eventually.

Wowza, I had no clue these existed! I kind of want one. Not sure if I'll commit to that desire, but I'm happy to know of these nice alternatives now. Thanks for sharing! :D

Whoa! I actually have that Ash stand shipped already and I did not realize it was THAT big lmao I just assumed it would be like 1/7th scale size loool Guess I was wrong and I'm so glad it's bigger than expected! Can't wait for mine, but damn he's gonna look super huge beside ITEM #713431 huh?
