Maakie's Collection #31 FMA, Hideyoshi, YGO and Strike WitchesMaakie's Collection #31 FMA, Hideyoshi, YGO and Strike WitchesReview

MaakieMaakie1 month ago
Hello MFC! And welcome to another blog in my collection series! These blogs cover figures from my collection that have been in storage for a long time due to my emigration. I also use this as an opportunity to practice with my new camera and also appreciate the items I have been owning for a longer time!

The figures we are going to look at today:

- Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters - Black Magician Girl - 1/7 (Kotobukiya) ITEM #42095
- Hagane no Renkinjutsushi (Fullmetal Alchemist) - Edward Elric - G.E.M. (MegaHouse) ITEM #72238
- Baka to Test to Shoukanjuu - Kinoshita Hideyoshi - Kinoshita Hideyoshi's Shoukanjuu - 1/7 (Griffon Enterprises) ITEM #78748
- Strike Witches - Strike Witches 2 - Minna-Dietlinde Wilcke - 1/8 (Alter) ITEM #61483

Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters - Black Magician Girl - 1/7 (Kotobukiya) ITEM #42095

I remember very well in 2010 when Kotobukiya announced to make this figure, it was like a dream come true! I couldn't believe they would be making a high quality figure of YGODM all those years after it aired! Now 11 years later it's quite wild how much YGO figures in total there have been made and how much other brands have jumped on the license as well.

I got the figure back then as pre-order that released in 2011. The first edition came with an additional keychain and poster.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2021/04/04/2679186.jpeg

First a quick shot of the poster after I just framed it. The poster is the main reference for the figure, drawn in Takahashi Kazuki's ENTRY #28634 original style, making it look a bit different from how the actual figure turned out.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2021/04/04/2679187.jpeg

And here is BMG herself with the Kuriboh first edition bonus!

After all these years I still really like the figure, my only complaint would be how easy it is to get paint transfers from the staff on the inside of her thighs.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2021/04/04/2679188.jpeg

I love the shape and metallic coloring of the hair! The face is also super super super adorable!

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2021/04/04/2679189.jpeg

Her mouth is slightly open and shows a bit of her teeth.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2021/04/04/2679191.jpeg

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2021/04/04/2679192.jpeg

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2021/04/04/2679193.jpeg

So cute so cute! But yeah you can see a bit of her age here and there, the seamline on her arm, some of the pink lines being painted a bit off, but overall she does still look pretty good in my opinion!

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2021/04/04/2679194.jpeg

I always loved the spell circle base of this figure! It makes her feel even more special!

Hagane no Renkinjutsushi (Fullmetal Alchemist) - Edward Elric - G.E.M. (MegaHouse) ITEM #72238

Similar to YGO, there definitely used to be a drought of higher quality FMA figures 10+ years ago. I remember being so excited when finally in 2011 MegaHouse announced this Edward and I pre-ordered him right away!

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2021/04/04/2679196.jpeg

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2021/04/04/2679197.jpeg

The figure turned out a lot smaller than I expected insert joke about Ed being short here, but overall I was very pleased with his quality!

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2021/04/04/2679198.jpeg

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2021/04/04/2679200.jpeg

I love his very determined face!

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2021/04/04/2679199.jpeg

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2021/04/04/2679201.jpeg

There is a joint in his right arm so that you can move the position of his automail arm.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2021/04/04/2679202.jpeg

The base is very cool as well!

There are nowadays a lot more FMA and specifically also Edward offerings on the market where I did not keep up with, so it's hard for me to say if this figure is a 'must get' for FMA fans. At least for me this figure was so nice I never even considered getting the other ones. I do have to add here that although I love FMA, I never really considered collecting a lot of items from it.

Baka to Test to Shoukanjuu - Kinoshita Hideyoshi - Kinoshita Hideyoshi's Shoukanjuu - 1/7 (Griffon Enterprises) ITEM #78748

It feels like it was very recent I made a more extensive blog about this figure and I guess it is, it was in 2019 BLOG #41977 !

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2021/04/04/2679203.jpeg

Griffon...a manufacturer with quite a weird history, but with some good pieces released. I do have better quality pieces from them in my collection than this Hideyoshi, but still I think this figure is not bad. I also really like the creative posing.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2021/04/04/2679204.jpeg

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2021/04/04/2679205.jpeg

A downside of the figure is that Hideyoshi does not attach to the seat, so he is very prone to falling off if you are not very careful when moving him around.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2021/04/04/2679206.jpeg

I like the more serious look on this Hideyoshi compared to the others in my collection who are either happy or embarrassed.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2021/04/04/2679207.jpeg

His Shoukanjuu is very cute too!

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2021/04/04/2679208.jpeg

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2021/04/04/2679210.jpeg

I remember from posting about this figure before that a lot of people appreciated the sculpt of his feet, so here you go!

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2021/04/04/2679211.jpeg

Until people starting leaving me those comments I actually never realized what a good figure this is for foot enthusiasts, because of this it made me research the original artwork. The figure was made based on a new original artwork PICTURE #243349 especially made for the figure by Haga Yui ENTRY #23865 , the original illustrator of the franchise. I couldn't find out anything about him being barefooted, maybe Griffon requested it as a selling point for the figure?

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2021/04/04/2679212.jpeg

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2021/04/04/2679213.jpeg

I am not sure where that paint transfer on the arm came from, it made me check my earlier blog regarding this figure and it seems like it wasn't there back then...strange. I can't remember I did anything that could have rubbed some paint (from the chair?) on him.

Anyway, let's also take this moment to appreciate that cute stomach~ This is a highly recommended figure for fellow Hideyoshi and otokonoko fans!

Strike Witches - Strike Witches 2 - Minna-Dietlinde Wilcke - 1/8 (Alter) ITEM #61483

Another nice Alter offering that I got in 2019 and reviewed in this blog BLOG #41964 before.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2021/04/04/2679214.jpeg

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2021/04/04/2679215.jpeg

For a lot of people this is one of the least interesting Strike Witches Alter pieces. I'll have to admit, she is lower in details than the others and also comes in a more basic pose than most others in this line. This makes her have a bit less personality than the rest of the Strike Witches Alter offerings.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2021/04/04/2679216.jpeg

Still, I think she looks pretty good, but she does feel a bit like a lazy/rushed release similar to the earlier Bakura figure BLOG #40178 I talked about being like that in the Koto YGO line.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2021/04/04/2679217.jpeg

I like how the gun looks used.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2021/04/04/2679218.jpeg

The Striker Units have some nice shading too.

And to keep the rest of the blog SFW, the panty shot of this figure is here in the spoiler: View spoilerHide spoiler

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2021/04/04/2679219.jpeg

You got to love those low rise panties!

Maakie1 month ago#95102513I have figures with worse stability, so I do have to say that it's surprisingly stable for how the figure looks. However, I would have liked it if there had been a peg or magnet to ensure he stays in place.
Are you happy with Koto Minna? It almost feels a bit like the manufacturers were not sure what to do with this character. ^^''

I like the Koto Minna well enough, as the pose is not so different compared to the Alter figure. The main difference is the adjustable arm that Koto used on their witches.

victorviper1 month ago#95101783I like the chair tilting backwards pose of the Hideyoshi figure, although my first question, which you answered, was "I wonder how stable that pose is?".
I always found it interesting how similar the Alter Minna was to her Kotobukiya counterpart. When you compare all the other Koto Witches versus the Alter ones, they are quite different. I ultimately bought the Koto Minna just because she was much cheaper than the Alter figure.

LittlePisces1 month ago#95102192A keychain and a poster are a sweet deal! This recent-ish figure (ITEM #637417) which is infamously expensive only comes with a clear file. While I like clear files, I think they could've included more like a cute keychain. It just feels a bit chintzy.

Yeah, unfortunately for the releases after that Koto moved to keychains only and after a couple of keychains they completely stopped with these kind of bonuses with their YGO figures. :(

With figure prices rising I would appreciate more small bonuses with figures, like keychains, art cards, posters etc. (and not as a shop exclusive thing please LOL). But now that I think about it, it has been many years since I got any figure with a first release bonus also from other manufacturers.

iFob31 month ago#95063121Nice! I like the Strike Witches one.

Thanks! :) Minna still sells for close to her release price, so I would recommend picking her up as that is a bargain in nowadays market. ;)

Solarstormflare1 month ago#95063062Wow nice! Amazing that you have been collecting that long, i'd like to think I'll hit the ten year mark too but who knows

If we actually talk about collecting start...I bought a lot of Pokémon and Digimon sets in the 90's and started going to my first cons in the 00's where I regularly brought a scale figure home. :) But actively (pre-)ordering on the internet, I think I started with that around 2007/2008? Around the time it became easier to get PayPal, as before that internet shopping was quite out of reach for me.

How much more years before your 10 year mark? :)
