Sexy Ooga Booga vs Tasteful or CoolSexy Ooga Booga vs Tasteful or CoolAsk MFC

I tend to find my collection (as well as figures in general) falls between two strange categories.

I don't really like the idea of having a bunch of naked figures sitting on a shelf. (Hats off to you bold degenerates that display such things)
But im not entirely against "sexy"

A problem I've run into is that I have a tough time finding multiple figures that aren't just blatantly explicit or using sex appeal as their initial focus.

Characters like Miku have such a variety of figures that you could collect just about any type you want.

Second to that would be Shiro from No game No life. She has a variety of figures and is quite cute but many of her figures unfortunately lean on the sexualized side.

Third would be a character like Nami from one piece. Nearly every one of her figures revolves around her timeskip outfits and obviously she's quite a ooga booga sexy booba type character post timeskip. So her less sexualized figures are quite a commodity.

I guess the point I'm trying to get at is this.

Do a lot of your favorite characters receive the ooga booga treatment more than the "cool" or cute treatment?(I don't wish to imply it can't be cool AND sexy)

How much do you judge people that have an large ooga booga vs cute etc collection?

What do you see as tasteful vs a little too much?

How many is too many when it comes to ooga booga?

Good point about Kurumi having enough figures to cover both sides of the spread. It is true that with popularity characters get the gambit of styles. Same with Rem, though I don't really see many sexualized figures of her, she still has something for everyone.
And I totally forgot Bleach is getting revitalized! This conversation was worth it just for that nugget. Though I don't follow the figures I'll definitely look up the ones you mentioned.
As for your counterpoint about how eroges don't need to use overly sexual stuff, I do see that with Nekopara. Some are cast off, some casually sexy, but some are just the characters as cute lolis in frilly dresses.
I guess it boils down to what the companies think the consumers will want, be it something casual, sexy, or erotic, and I am curious how they canvass the market to find out what direction to go for some figures, especially when it's a character that doesn't have a wide selection or high popularity. I think in those cases the safe bet is "sex sells" and they go for appealing to the horny masses that make up a majority of the market lol.

I think you nailed it on the head tbh but if you didn't know about Bleach figs you should check out their page on here.

It looks like they're finally getting the ball rolling and the upcoming figures are making me hopeful for even more haha

And yeah, uniforms in lewd figs would be great (having something similar to the SS uniforms without those shitty connections would be fantastic but this is just mere wishful thinking at this point)
Wouldn't it be cool to have lewd male figs along the line of "kind of matching with a female fig while still being a standalone"?
For example: Trying to make a attractive male Mad Hatter or White Rabbit to "assist" ITEM #236217 (with genital options provided f course).

I'm quite surprised pair figures like that aren't more prevalent.

The pair figure I really like is lelouch and suzaku from megahouse haha

BuyMyFigs19 days ago#95658736I don't really see it that was I guess. Out of the 700+ figures I own, there are honestly a bare minimum that go for straight sexualization over subtle or casual sexiness. Like the Prisma Illya series gets a lot of straight up sexual, "pole dance" as you call it, level sexiness. Shiro from NGNL has a few sexy figures, but considering the source nothing feels out of character really. Even all the Kurumi Tokisaki lingerie figures are within her flirty sexual persona, so I don't think those cross any lines either. To say figures cross a line of "blatant sexualized material" vs "natural sex appeal" is really dependent on the character's personality and source, and since most anime have sexual undertones in one form or another it's hard to dictate what is "too much." I don't think a figure of Shimakaze showing off her ass is blatantly sexual over her natural sexiness due to her design and personality, or even a figure of Sagiri Izumi flashing panties because that's just normal for her and a part of the origin's plot. I'm really trying to think of another good example of something that goes above and beyond what is expected of the character, but literally nothing comes to mind because pretty much everything seems to have justification. Maybe the Megumin dakimakura figure, but that's her official lingerie from the source and she isn't like, diddling herself or anything crazy. Shinobu Oshino naked in a bathtub full of donuts, but even that is all justified aspects of her character mashed together. Koneko Toujou has a lot of cast offs, but look at the source material. I've never seen a NSFW Miku Hatsune or K-On or Madoka Magica figure because their sources don't offer that type of material to go on. If you have some good examples, I'd be willing to analyze and give counter arguments if there are any to offer.

Ah you see this is the catch.
It is all about source material and that can be a unfortunate double edged sword.

I agree with what you said and I found similar conclusions myself.

"Pole dance" level is just a filler description so we can change that lmfao

Prisma illya is a good example as you said, I really like Chloe but I don't know if I fully appreciate ALL of the figures that have come out for her.

Kurumi's lingerie is more walking the tightrope because the source material uses sex appeal so it's not unnatural to see the route they went with figures. But on the contrary, Kurumi has enough popularity that she falls towards the hatsune miku side of things. Where if you want kurumi in a bikini or lingerie you can easily find figures of that, or if you want her in her beautiful dress/casual outfits, there are options for you.
My grievance is that unless character have this sort of popularity you won't really find a variety. (Even some that do suffer from it.)

Again the grievance isn't fully towards sex appeal nor its source. If you read through a few other responses I also try to clear that up.
Look at Nami from one piece. Her grandista figure is arguably one of her best in terms of basic design. Compare that to a majority of her others and its all enlarged breasts in bikinis or her taking off her top.
Now of course she naturally wears a bikini top and her breast size is sort of a running gag, so once again we're back to the source, but there is a fine line between grandista Nami and Bathing beauties Nami. Where the natural sex appeal can be derived from one, while the other is selling it.

Again I don't hate this and I have a collection that provides both sides.

Another example and another shonen.

Bleach is making a return in anime form so megahouse GEM series is giving it some love.

Look at the new Yoruichi as opposed to the old Yoruichi megahouse figure.
I'm not particularly against it, nor do I hate it. But they clearly went the "sexy cat girl" route as opposed to the "mentor of ichigo and badass ninja" route.
It's not absurd for the character but it's minor things like that that end up getting to me.

The taimanin ninjas. These are blatantly eroge characters. So naturally they are going to use sex.
But look at the upcoming yukikaze figure as opposed to the other most recent releases.
She's in her normal skin tight uniform and she's in a cute pose.
She doesn't need to be naked and have "fluids" dripping on her just because her source material is an eroge.

I hope you can sort of see where I'm coming from haha

Shiibuii19 days ago#95658716Thanks for really looking into my mess of questions haha
In regards to BL figures I agree that there aren't too many I particularly like. Personally I'd like for some more "yaoi type" figures to be made. 07-Ghost isn't really a yaoi series per se but it's got the themes and great character designs.
I'm a sucker for uniforms lol

Melian19 days ago#95658734Yeah, I'm planning on getting her too. She looks so badass.
If she looks anything close to how the prototypes have looked I'm going to die of happiness.

I hope it's successful enough to get other characters made too
I'd love to see Murasame or Coco get some love
Or Louis!

Quin-Rose19 days ago#95620494Do you know about the asexual spectrum? Sounds like you may be sex-repulsed, like me!
Back on topic; I don't have anything against boobs-in-your-face figures, but they're not to my taste at all. I don't watch a lot of series with ooga booga boobas any more, and the characters with huge bazongas in series' I do watch tend to be all about fanservice with no personality, so I wouldn't be attached to them enough to buy merch

This is another side of things that I find rather interesting as well.

Personally if I find the design of a character to be cool or interesting, that may get me into a series. But I'll end up not enjoying it because of it's substance.

For example, the Hunter character from bikini warriors has a beautifully sculpted figure and it's sex appeal derives from the traditional "wild warrior" like Conan or Tarzan.

However the show bikini warriors itself is hot garbage and I couldn't make it through 3 episodes haha

The catch is that I'm lucky enough to appreciate the character without having the feeling of necessity to enjoy the series.

In that regard I differ from your stance because I'll like a design before I like a series as opposed to the inverse.
