Feeling annoyed with paint jobs in Nendo HellFeeling annoyed with paint jobs in Nendo HellDiary

Yesterday I received two nendoroids. The 2019 Miku With You ITEM #1032398 straight from Good Smile (US) and Sesshoumaru ITEM #1065052 from AmiAmi. I have admittedly been having a stressful week, both mentally and physically, so I was really looking forward to opening them. When I opened the long awaited Miku, her neck peg was a little weak. I wondered if it was her voluminous hair making it loose and I'll probably test it out with another spare peg. What really ruined my box opening was this weird mass of what I can only assume was glue on the bow of the back of her dress. I lightly scraped some of it, but not all of it came off, so it looks like this. Might have to sand it down a bit before repainting.

So yeah, a future repair for me right out of box! I was expecting better for an exclusive Miku too. Daunted but still determined to enjoy my purchases, I opened Sesshoumaru next.

It's so small I thought "maybe I'm overreacting". But the longer I stared at it, an anger I've never experienced while handling figures before rose. I ended up putting them both back in their boxes and walking away.

It just bothers me because this is the fourth nendo I have to fix up myself in a row? Sure I enjoy painting, but when I pay for a product and consistently get scuffs and not the best paint jobs one after the other, my patience starts to thin. Part of me recognizes that my mental and now my physical state is not the best, so stuff that used to not irk me as much is affecting me now. But come on GoodSmile (and Medicos…)! Make a miserable collector have to do less work here. I obviously love nendos and you obviously think people like me loving them is a reason to slowly hike up the price. Put your quality control where your price is then.

Thankfully, since stepping away, I am calmer about the situation and will try to apply the paints soon. I already worked on the first offender of mis-paints, ITEM #951106. The color didn't fully match but I kept applying it since it works like a bordering accent color.

Next will be ITEM #931671 who had a single small dot of white paint on his pants. Then Miku, and then Sesshoumaru. Who the hell knows if ITEM #1065048 will need some paint touch ups, but Hetalia nendos usually don't let me down (famous last words…)

Again, part of me wonders if I'm overreacting. But that's just how I feel and I'm sharing my thoughts to the world. Maybe I'm merely a frustrated collector shouting at clouds here. Thanks for reading till the end. Hopefully I'm in a better mood next article and will have less things to complain about.

I got ITEM #890492 for my birthday two weeks ago, and his hair piece looks absolutely awful. I'm not the only person who got him who was dissatisfied with his hair (another user tried to contact Good Smile to ask for a replacement and was told it wasn't a defect so it wouldn't be replaced). It's especially angering since I paid twice as much for him than I did for ITEM #872621.

Agreed that their QC really seems to be slipping. I received ITEM #1008401 late last month and he had significant paint bubbling on the front and back of his default body. I was a little shocked since it’s the first time I’ve received something like that in 6 years of buying nendos. GSC agreed to send me a replacement so it was resolved quickly, but it’s unfortunate that this type of issue sounds like it’s becoming increasingly common.

Nah, this is a big deal. It's really upsetting; it's like the quality is declining while the figures become more and more expensive. What is the reason?

It's especially annoying because those figures are what you came to to destress. I absolutely hate it and LOSE IT when I try to do something to calm down, and it doesn't go how I planned. It's good to let all that anger out. You don't have to keep it in.

Fingers crossed and prayers sent up for your Hetalia figure <3

Your frustration is justified truly. Prices have been going up lately therefore we should expect at least a decent paint job for our figures. Now i'm scared because I'm waiting for my Sesshoumaru as well.

Sundae1 month ago#97979938Agreeing with some of the comments that Nendo quality control seems to be going downhill. I understand that at the end of the day it's a company's goal to make profit, but cutting some corners like not sculpting the cloudy bits on the legs and having a flimsy balljoint for the weapons on ITEM #998670 / ITEM #806027 just seems like they made her designed to fall apart at the slightest touch or potentially break. I had heard about these nendos having a lot of trouble, which is so unfortunate since they look so pretty.

My Ceasar had so troubles as mentioned but I'm hoping my Joseph comes out better. I got him from GSC US so we'll see!

AcePlatinum1 month ago#97986934Damn...I am now going to have to pray for ANOTHER nendo to not be awful...so sorry to see what happened to your Sess TT
Covid seriously screwed over QC for GCS and Medicos...let's just hope it gets better when it gets better....
(P.S. you are not the only one who feels this way; since last year I have been slowly been feeling fed-up with both of them as well... also if you need to talk to someone, send me a message! ^^)
I'm glad I'm not alone. I usually am lenient on QC but with little one simply piling up recently and my current mood, I had to let out some steam! And thank you for the offer to message you, I appreciate it. Let's talk soon!

dtindcarea1 month ago#97987007It is totally frustrating when a product/figure you buy doesn't meet your expectations. I completely understand that. The last few GSC figures I have gotten have been mostly excellent (only one small paint scratch in the back of one figure) so I don't think I've seen any decline in quality personally. Here are the figures I'm talking about:
ITEM #1004689
ITEM #945858
ITEM #861656
ITEM #872686
Thank you for understanding. And those two scales look so lovely! I'm glad they came out well.

All the comments about errors on Joseph and Caesar are disheartening as well, but I ordered from TOM so it'll be awhile before I see them in person.

I haven't had to reach out to them for a replacement part yet since I can live with them, but it is disappointing to see prices rising while the quality slowly drops. I don't expect my figures to be perfect and factory output is still being affected by Covid but even my older Nendos don't fall apart nearly as easily as some of my new ones.

donnabanana1 month ago#97979825I've requested them for a few times over just a tiny white dot on the hair, scrapes, etc and they immediately replaced them. I know these are just minor defects but lately I've been getting these a lot and it's getting annoying.
I really understand your frustration esp that nendos are getting expensive despite the lack of accessories.
I know it's frustrating but I'm glad to know I'm not to one experiencing this.
