Apex Arknights Blaze 1/7 ReviewApex Arknights Blaze 1/7 ReviewReview

Hello My Face Collection, hello hello! Today I bring yet another review of an Arknights figure made by Apex Innovation. And I will be trying out a slightly adjusted new format for my review for those of you that don't really have the time to read the full thing. I will give an overall impression and verdict right at the start - the tl;dr section.

TL;DR

https://i.ibb.co/LZy6gHR/20210626-190710-2.jpg

Sculpt: Overall good but some flaws
Paint: Overall good
Shading: Could use improvements
Price: Eh, it's ok
Cons: Box is freakin' huge, base is boring and freakin' huge
Would I recommend?: If you like Arknights - yes! Otherwise - no, she's not made so well that you'd collect without knowing the series.

End TL;DR - onto proper review.

As some of y'all might know, I'm a big fan of the game Arknights - and will be collecting most of the figures made for it. Blaze, being one of the best meta operators, is no exception. Unfortunately, you will not find her on the MFC database, due to Arknights being a Chinese-made game, and Apex Innovations being a Chinese company.

Blaze's regular skin of which the figure is based on.

Blaze was released on the 27th of May, 2021. I got her in my postbox last Friday, the 25th of June.

Blaze cost me $252.23AUD ($191.39USD/21,181.38JPY as of today's conversion rates) shipping/taxes included from AusAnime Collectibles (Matt/webbymoto on MFC). It worked out quite a bit cheaper than anywhere else as I ordered her during his Black Friday deals last year.

Apex Innovation is a relatively new company, and many MFC users have gotten interested in knowing whether they are a quality company - to order Apex's K/DA Ahri 1/7 or not. So far, I own two figures made by Apex; that being their Skyfire 1/7 (BLOG #48245), and today's Blaze 1/7. I don't think you'd really go wrong with their figures, their quality seems to be overall quite good.

Anyway, let's now start with the photos and a detailed assembly/review.

Out of the two figures I own from Apex, I gotta say, they both suffer from a huge box (with a fair bit of unused space, and a huge base. Blaze's box is a bit of a departure from how Skyfire's box was, in that there was no windows to peer in to inspect her before I open it. The design and schemes of the box is ok, no real complaints here. The overall style almost reminds me of Amakuni's Persona 5 figure boxes.

The packaging is slightly warped, not sure why since the packaging is by no means soft.

Similar with all the other Arknights figures I've gotten, it came with a little present :)

As I previously mentioned, her base is freakin' huge. I understand why that is, in that they need to have a big base to balance her, with her chainsaw and chainsaw box, her weight distribution is really quite lopsided. But I really wish they could've made the base a little more interesting or went for another shape to save on space. A huge round disc is probably the least space efficient design they could've gone for. Or better yet, I reckon Blaze's E2 design would've made a much interesting figure. But oh well.

https://i.ibb.co/pZZBpkc/20210626-185237-2.jpg

The pegs are super long, probably to support her lopsided weight. I will update if any warping occurs after an extended period of display, but hopefully there won't be any problems.
https://i.ibb.co/c2D8JSD/20210626-185230-2.jpg

Her so very sturdy chainsaw. The sculpting and painting here is fine but it's not the best you've ever seen.

Blaze, outta her box. Each of her hair strands were wrapped in individual plastic sleeves, it really took me a while to get all of that off. And I reckon packing her back (if I ever get to it) will probably be a pain in my ass too. But extra protection is extra protection.
https://i.ibb.co/wC9cMbH/20210626-185653-2.jpg

Her peg slots and a little fan-service ;) Though tbh I didn't expect her to be one to wear white.
https://i.ibb.co/T8LLChn/20210626-185711-2.jpg

Blaze was really quite a tight fit onto the pegs, similarly with my previously reviewed Skyfire. If you have any trouble with getting her down, I recommend holding her by her thighs and pushing her down with increasing force while avoiding damaging her other more flimsy bits, try pushing both of her legs down equally, otherwise one will get in and the other will stick out. (after writing and reading this, I realized how much of this sound like innuendos, I will disclaim that I did not intend it to read like this).
https://i.ibb.co/YZXw27x/20210626-185943-2.jpg

Her tail was relatively easy to insert. Also a side note, I've never realized how sexy Blaze's outfit actually was until I was assembling her figure. Her 2D artwork in game does not do her justice.

https://i.ibb.co/fFQj5hM/20210626-191208-2.jpg

Her chainsaw case fits onto her hand, with a tiny slot on her left hand and a peg on the case's strap. This assembly is a little tricky, but once you get it in a proper position you will feel it almost click into her hand. Just watch getting the strap under her thumb.

https://i.ibb.co/jyWgqmk/20210626-190909-2.jpg

As for her chainsaw, it's the other way around. The slot is on the strap, and the peg is on her left shoulder. After carefully navigating around her hair, the fit for this is relatively easier compared to the chainsaw case, it kinda just fits on very quickly.

I personally wasn't a fan of how her face turned out on the figure initially, the shading was very flat, and she's missing her smug smile that was originally on the artwork. But I've now warmed up slightly to her, though there definitely could have been improvements.

https://i.ibb.co/YhFKZGB/20210626-190758-2.jpg

Ok, I am a big fan of this transparent material - which is why I very much look forward to the figures made for some of the Rhine Lab operators, whom feature this transparent clothing more heavily as coats and aprons etc.
Though my criticism will come regarding her nails. The nail on her index finger is non-existent and a very poorly painted nail for her thumbs.

Her boots are sculpted well, though the belts are a little flimsy as expected.

The zettai ryouiki.
https://i.ibb.co/3hfvhKH/20210626-190956-2.jpg

The chainsaw again, noticed these little details as I was wrapping things up. But damn, her chainsaw is incredibly powerful, with a max rps at 29,000 (A whooping 1.74 million RPM) and a torque of 10.5NM. For reference, most chainsaws we use have a max RPM of 10-15,000 RPM and a max torque of 2.45NM. Ok this has nothing to do with the figure review but I thought I'd say something about the absurdity of her chainsaw.

Anyway that's about it for this review. Hope you all have enjoyed my article, and I welcome any feedback or requests! I will see you all very soon I hope, when I receive my next new figure!

This is a great review as I was doubting to still get her! Will definitely follow more of you since I read you try to collect most of them. The small struggle I have too is that I can't find some of the figures here due to the rules and it being Chinese etc... Thank you!

DemureDusk1 year ago#100952363Kinda weird how this figure has not been added to the site's collection like most Arknights figures. I wish I knew how to properly add her just to add her to my owned figure collection on this site <3 Yeah unfortunately she can't be added onto the database due to MFC rules. To be eligible for the database, the figure must either be made by a Japanese manufacturer or from a Japanese series or both. Arknights is a Chinese made game and Apex is also a Chinese company, which makes her ineligible.

BeastFallen1 year ago#98160334I'm looking forward to her so so much. I mean, how can some people still look at this and say "dolls are for kids", this is just beautiful, a work of art! I mean, the price alone should tell people that figures ain't a hobby for kids haha!
Bak1 year ago#98160588Blaze is a sexy cat. Nice review, I think the figure is gorgeous. Base is cool, it fits her theme well and it's not just another generic clear base. I hope they make more Arknights figures, even of some of the less popular characters (But unlikely). Thank you for reading! I wouldn't complain much about the base had the base been smaller. But because it's so huge, I personally think they should have gone for a shape other than circular, while Blaze herself doesn't take much of my shelf space, her base does. Which means she can't be displayed closer to other figures and really severely limits where I can put her.

Kimm134Saya1 year ago#98159990I agree. It is probably one of the most outrageously huge boxes I've ever handled. The wieght is anticlimactic, though. I'm just glad I was able to part with it quickly. Unfortunately, I am in the habit of keeping the boxes... time to make more space in the garage

cruellaming1 year ago#98159947Thanks for the review! I've been eyeing some of Apex's Arknights figures, but since they're a relatively newcomer, I was holding off on buying them. But it seems their figures are decent enough for their price, so I may order some of Apex's Arknights figures after all! I do agree with you about the bases, circular bases are so boring, even if Apex tries to stand out with paint on the base. I wish they went for a more dynamic pose (E2 or skins), but this is good enough. Thank you for reading! I'm happy that my reviews has helped your decision! I agree, her E2 pose or her drummer skin would definitely justify her huge base a lot more. I understand that Blaze's E1 pose can be hard to do without a big base, but it'd be a lot less noticeably large if they did a more dynamic pose!
