When do you go shopping for Figures? When do you go shopping for Figures?Ask MFC

I'm curious as to when everyone goes figure shopping.

I end up going shopping for figures online about midway through the month after the bills get paid, and usually end up going out at least 2 or 3 times to the local stores around here since there a LOT of stores to go shop at and lately been sticking to a few stores instead of going to all of the ones around here since that adds up fast when I go to more than 3 stores.

I'll find a few Anime figures here locally but it's mostly Gundam and Dragonball Z, not a lot selection wise to look for so most of my Anime shopping is done online.

For Media and Books there are at least 3 local stores that sell Manga and DVDs.

With there being a lot of stores around here my shopping usually starts around the later half of the month [That's after the Month's Bill get paid and my month's collecting budget usually gets set prior to that]

Looking at how much shopping that's been done lately cutting out online shopping and focusing on local shopping has been my priority since it's a bit easier to go out to check for a few things I'm after locally but when it comes to Anime that's all picked up online and it's a rare thing to me to find some Anime figures or Anime DVD sets locally since we don't have a local Anime store here.

Gamestop has sold Prize Figures in the past and they do sell some Statues so they may be the only place that I can find some figures mostly Kotobukiya statues.

If I want Gundam Models and Figures my local GameXchange has them along with Manga, been finding Gundam Universe figures around here at Target and the Gundam G-Frames there too. Gamestop also sells the Gundam Models too.

I miss going out to do a lot of shopping but with everything that's gone on and being increasingly annoyed and aggravated at the other Drivers around here and that it doesn't feel that great to get out due to the Summer heat here [90+ this Summer for days at a time] and that heat makes me want to stay home instead of going out and try to find what I'm looking for online.

So far this month's Shopping has been finished up [2 more figures coming in mail and should be finished up with looking for anything else till middle of next month], only have 2 more Trips out before the month is over[Going to the Casino on Tuesday, will end up stopping at Walmart on the way there and then another Trip to the Bookstore that's having a 25% off sale at the end of the month so a few more Books and DVDs will get added to the collection then] limiting my trips out has helped with cutting down on how much is spent locally and cutting out the online shopping is my primary objective for August.

When do you go shopping for figures?

Do you have local stores that sell Anime figures?

I preorder whatever I want and know I can afford. I don't buy IRL because it's all modern stuff or POPs that I see near me, so none of it interests me. I follow this site, several figure companies on twitter, youtube, and reddit. I regularly check BBTS and AmiAmi to see what's new.

since I currently only make money with art commissions and student grant I go buying whenever I do have money I can spend on them, though this will def change once I get a new job.. it'll probably be at the end of each month then.

I have a local shop I check up once a month. Same with my favorite on-line stores.

I like to know what's out there. If I can't justify buying/pre-ordering, it I wish list it.

I know it sounds silly but I check depop and mercari daily just to see if theres any good deals that might pop up, and I follow a few figure update accounts that tell me when companies or series I like are making new figures so I can get an idea ahead of time if I even want to preorder any of them. Maybe once a month (after the bills are paid) I take a look at mercari japan since I gotten some great stuff off of there before! But I will say I really only purchase things after the bills are paid and I know I'll have enough for next months rent.

I normally preorder everything I want but if I'm looking for certain figures I'll check two to three times a week online. In store atm I can't because we are in lockdown but every couples of months usually, normally just to have a squiz and compare prices etc

I don't shop much, since I prefer to prioritise on what I want to get over a set period of time. Usually every three months (if I have the money to do so or if I really need it,) I pre-order something from AmiAmi that I would like to get since I only use their service for pre-orders since they're afforable and discount them. Usually a new figure or a re-release of a figure that I was searching for a bit. Or a bunch of goodies they have in stock. Something like that.

When it comes to proxy orders, I only use them for older, harder to get figures (i.e. blind boxes, gashapons) or goodies like trading cards and what not. Sometimes things I forgot to order. I before hand make a Excel sheet detailing fees and what not, make some changes and check the over-all shipping fee on Zenmarket to see if it fits my budget over all.

When it comes to buying figures in person, that's a different story. At least locally in the city near me, there are at least three anime shops selling goodies and what-not.

One-Stop Anime focuses on scale figures, prizes and gashapons, but the only thing that I've bought from them was a Saber prize plush that for some reason, they didn't list on their website. The issue with them is that aside from them being imports and thus over-priced, their store is hard to get to because it's an indoor store that requires an elevator trip.

Minotaur has both Japanese and non-Japanese goods, with the top and bottom floors consisting of the respective themes. Top floor has manga, blind boxes, tapestries and figures. The only thing I've bought from them was the Nero Claudius Racing nendoroid for 89 AUD. Whilst it's 20 AUD more than the retail price including tax, I feel as though the pruchase was justified because it was a Good Smile Online exclusive and plus they're a partner shop. Most of their figures are justly priced (PRIZES 30-40 AUD, NENDOROIDS 60-90 AUD,) but I don't recommend buying things like figmas and scales as they are often twice the retail price since their imports.

Critical Hit is similar to Minotaur with being a Good Smile partner shop and a cramped store, except they have more of a focus on goods like keychains, badges, acrylic stands plushes and soundtracks. Again, some stuff is cheap, some is not. You need to know when it is right to buy from them. Only bought a Marth plushie from them.

TyjosAzari1 month ago#98793721Normally because I would usually have such great Sales in a month's time when I was cleaning out could afford to do this Hobby all the time, now I'm barely having any sales and did not have any sales this month so it's gotten to where I'm not relying on that anymore to get more for the collection and changing my mindset towards that since I'm tired of trying to sell figures.
With my usual budget enough for 3-4 figures and an handful of DVDs/Mangas/Comics it's getting to where the selling part of this hobby is a lot harder and too stressful so going back to simplicity with sticking to the budget for the rest of the year.

Yea, I can relate to that. It's getting harder to find more interesting stuff to sell at the moment, at least with the things I already have. I'm getting deeper into the comic market again to do some investments though. I think it's harder to sell figures. The comic market on Ebay and Instagram is crazy right now. Good to earn some extra cash to invest in some new figures / statues.

D_A_R1 month ago#98793583I usually shop for anything hobby-related at the beginning of each month. Doesn't matter if it's mangas, comics or PVC figures. The only exception are resin statues. I set myself the rule that these (kinda) have to fund themselves. So if I see something getting announced or going up for preorder and I want that more than the stuff I already have, I sell things to make it happen. If sales are going good, I can do that any time of the month.
So far it's working pretty good. Got 5 statues since february, 2 more on preorder but I already have the money for them, about to order another one and so far I haven't spend any of "my own money". I mostly sold some comics and older figures I didn't care for anymore.
Don't have any local stores here.
