Adding entries to MFC?Adding entries to MFC?Ask MFC

Hello! So there are quite a lot of figures I can think of that don’t exist on MFC, specifically from Myethos. What’s up with that?

The reason I’m confused is that there are some Myethos figures that do exist in the database but not all, what constitutes what can and cannot be added?

I am asking because I would like to add an entry for Myethos Jinx: www.reddit.com/...

And I cross-posted this to the AnimeFigures sub Reddit and it was not taken down. Usually they take down posts regarding unofficial / unlicensed figures. So I’m wondering if I can feel free to add this one and how I can identify what makes something a candidate for it to be added. Thanks!

When you are adding a new figure/item, there will be a precautionary window showing the rules link before you add one - Guideline 1 about/faq/#ref-... and Guideline 2 about/faq/#ref-.... If the figure is of BOTH a non-Japanese character and a non-Japanese company, you cannot add that figure to the database. In the case of Jinx, she is not allowed as she is from a Chinese game and manufactured by Chinese company Myethos.
Another simple rule of thumb, if the figure you want to add is not new (and by not new, I mean the news of the figure/prototype has been out for more than a few hours) but does not appear on MFC, there's a very high chance it is not allowed. Members here are very swift in adding new figures to the database, they are commonly added to the database within an hour of the news being released. So if you see an interesting figure but the news has been around for more than a day but no one has added it, it's likely not up because it’s not allowed.
PS. I actually understand why some people may get irritated because it happens too often (even I myself, who loves non-Japanese figures and am co-admin of the Myethos club - find the argument really wearing because it has been questioned too many times and there's always these same figures being added on the database which are not allowed time and again - and these are usually done by the newer members so it really gives off a impression that they don't read the rules at all) So yeah, that's probably why you were getting less-than-friendly replies on here.
The way I voice against the system is just by posting nice photos of figures not listed in the database (and some of them make it to Picture Of The Day! which gives me a lot of satisfaction XD) and blog reviews of these figures on here to give more exposure to other users. I don't think questioning again and again helps much - especially since the creator is apparently rarely on here and the mods have also forwarded the suggestion before.

Thank you so much for the info about the club! I joined and can’t wait to talk about all my non-Mfc figures on there :)

And yeah I can understand it must be boring if the newest articles are about Chinese figures every day, would be cool if MFC had like an FAQ section with answers to this question so people can refer to that. I still think the discussion will be continuously brought up until change is made…

But yeah thanks for being so polite and kind <3

TheCringeMaster23 days ago#101789569At this point with everyone adding Chinese figures and whatnot, you all might as well just make your own website dedicated to keeping track of them. Heck, just use MyAnimeShelf or mention them in your profile. I'm sick of this topic. I really am.

I don’t understand how so many people can be upset about people asking about these figures. It’s what’s on peoples minds, that’s what the blog section is for. If you don’t like the topic don’t interact ? That would probably be the best way for you to protest if you’re so tired of the subject.

I’m relatively new to MFC and blogs really only feel relevant the first 24 hours they have been posted and I’ve only seen 2 blogs about Chinese figures soooo yeah

Is it that time of the day already where this topic gets brought up again? It's been going on for years, and it's unfortunately not going to change anytime in the near, and quasi-near future. Maybe in the distant future, but my hopes and dreams have been crushed enough to the point that I've given up caring.

everyone else already got it basically. 2/3 admins are inactive, and the site owner keeps the site up but rarely seems to visit. such as one time when the notifications broke and it took a couple of weeks for the owner to go actually fix it. mods were close to giving up iirc....

reminds me of an interesting comment i saw recently by a moderator. i cant find it but they described the situation as "we'd like to change things, and there is obviously money exchanged to keep the site alive, but the owner is asleep at the wheel."

An admin or mod (i forget) noted that the idea of opening up to other kinds of figures was brought up in the past among the staff, but ultimately it was deemed to be too much work and shelved for the time being. Because yes, the issue is a relatively newer one in terms of the site's history and everything is built around a Japanese based system. To open up to other regions would mean reworking multiple rules on romanization systems for character/series entries, and retooling the system itself to not have JPY as the default currency that everything has to be listed in (among other similar issues). The post also made it seem like it was a lot of work for a relatively little thing since it's so painfully obvious people only care about Chinese Scale figures and nothing else.

lalalinkle24 days ago#101742481Ahhh this seems kind of like a dumb rule TBH ;—; what’s with the focus around either the origin or the company being Japanese? Is there a specific reason for this documented somewhere?

No, just that it started a decade ago as a website for Japanese collectibles and China was known for bootlegs. I remember a comment about the Koto Bishoujo line being debated about staying but ultimately it was decided any origin was fine as long as it was a Japanese manufacturer.

It sucks new people keep coming and asking but for most of us it’s beating a dead horse. Mods know most people want it. There’s gonna have to be clear cut rules about what’s allowed. What’s ‘anime’ enough is an immeasurable quality and someone might say ‘if we can add this why not this’. But Mods & Adm are unpaid volunteers and the headache of changing the rules is probably something they want to bring out slowly. But sadly if the owner says no what can we say?

And please don’t keep adding stuff if you know better. You’ll have your adding privileges taken away.

Indeed! Most of my currently displayed figures and statues aren't on MFC. My 2022 pre-orders follow this trend also. My fix is just going elsewhere for other *gasp* non-Japanese stuff.

Portus24 days ago#101743842Until the last couple years, adding Chinese figures to the website wasn't even on the radar. I think this is such a new issue and something hasn't popped up before like this aside from adding western figures (gi joes, western made marvel/dc figures, etc), which was very unfavorably seen. it's a bit of new territory and would be acting completely against the rules created by the owner. he's still here, he just doesn't care.

I see. Well I think the users of MFC will continue raising this request in hopes that soon we can make a change to better track a wider range of our figures >.>

I think sometimes it’s quite sad that a huge group of people are going to miss out on figures because they’re not in this Database
