♥ My Rules For Figure Collecting ♥
———————- ♡ ———————-
This is a list of my personal rules and guidelines of how I collect figures, so do not feel that you have to follow these rules. Of course, feel free to take inspiration from my rules to create your own boundaries. This list is solely towards my method to preorders and not buying figures at random or buying second hand figures. However, if you would also like to know how I buy second hand figures, let me know in the comments!
The place I preorder figures is AmiAmi, but I will preorder figures on either GoodSmile or Ukiyo Kumo depending on certain situations. If you would like to see my personal pros and cons of the places I prefer to shop, please check out this article
♥ Where I Buy My Figures ♥
These rules also only apply to how I use AmiAmi since it's money I have to save. I do not include preorders I need to pay upfront when I order on GoodSmile or Ukiyo Kumo.
———————- ♡ ———————-
These are things I take into consideration when I preorder figures.
❥ Budget
❥ Month of release
❥ Figures per month
❥ If I like the figure

———————- ♡ ———————-
Budget
I always have a rough budget set for both one month and one year. My max budget for one month is $1500 and my max budget for one year is $10,000. Of course, these are maximums and I never want to reach those numbers. I personally like to stay only a couple hundred dollars per month if I can. When considering your own budget, please think about the month the figure releases and your current situation.
———————- ♡ ———————-
Month of release
Because I order on AmiAmi, I pay when the figure releases. I have a max budget of around $1500 per month, and although I do not want to reach that amount every month, some months release more figures I like than others. I keep a list of what figures I've ordered and when they release. I also note how much each figure costs and I estimate shipping based on their size. If you want to know each box size AmiAmi offers and how much it costs in DHL and EMS, please refer to this list or this forum!

Figures per month
I also have a maximum amount of figures I will preorder every month, which is 5-6 figures. This ranges from nendoroids to scales, so once I reach five to six, even if I haven't reached the $1500 budget, I will not preorder any more figures for that month. From my AmiAmi preorders I have so far for 2022, I felt this would be the most fair for me.
———————- ♡ ———————-
If I like the figure
There are a lot of gorgeous figures on the market, and it's hard to not preorder all of them, but there are some figures we end up regretting afterwards. I want to avoid that feeling myself, so I have a few parameters to keep myself in check and not over-order.
❥ If I see a figure and my first thought is "I need that", I'm more than likely to preorder it.

❥ If I see a figure I really like, but I'm questioning, then I take some time to think about it. If the figure keeps coming to mind repeatedly, then I will usually preorder it.

❥ I need to be able to envision the figure in my collection. If there's a figure I like, but I can't envision it in my personal collection, I will most likely not preorder it.

———————- ♡ ———————-
Once again, these are my personal rules for collecting figures. If you have your own rules, feel free to leave them below! Maybe I'll take even more inspiration and find better guidelines for myself.

Thank you everyone for reading and I hope this article has helped you!

Wobbafina26 days ago#105078121My rules are:
1. No Loli/sexualized minors
2. The character must look like they want to be there (No crying/trying to cover themselves up, etc.)
3. No broken spines
That's about it ahah, I like seeing other peoples' anime figure rules because they're all so different

XD I never really thought about rules like that. I think I pretty much agree, though I do have a couple teary/embarrassed Shirotani figures. Also, my most “sexual” figures are my two NSFW ones, but I usually see figures as being more cute. Like, all of my female lingerie figures I have preordered/had my eye on is because I think they’re really pretty more than they look sexy, if that makes any sense.

I only say this because I scrolled through Evathe: Lazy Afternoon Ver.’s comments and people are saying some wild things over there— I just like the colors of the figure and I just think its cute, you know? I want to put her next to my bedside table when I get her because she’ll fit so perfectly there. XD I think I like it because it reminds me of me. But some of those Shiro figures— They make me so uncomfortable, I don’t like them.

Shokora28 days ago#105014844" since it's money I have to save" monthly budget 1.5k up to 10k yeah sure lmao

Not sure what your on about. A max of $1.5k per month/$10k a year isn’t even that obscene of a number. They even said they don’t aim to hit this just that it’s their upper limit with a max of like at most 6 figures in a single month. People have different money situations and there is nothing unrealistic about this.

I only have two kinda strict rules I follow. 1. No figure over $300aud which isn’t too hard since I’m not a fan of 1/4 scales. Also only 1 prize and 1 scale per character. I include nendoroids in the prize category. The only exception to this is miku. She has no prize cap.

Those are numbers I never really want to reach either, trust me. But some months, there are just a lot of figures that are really appealing to me and I want to have in my collection. These months include July of 2022 and January of 2023. And my job allows me to save money on the side with every paycheck, I’ve been saving for 2022 since earlier this year.

Holy crap, that's quite a sizeable monthly budget just for figures! I envy whatever pay you get at your job!

Hilarious how you marked this article as "Tutorial." :)

Similar to my rules except your monthly budget is my yearly budget, but I'm probably going to break it because the Azur lane figures are expensive.

One rule of importance to me is that I am going to ban myself from browsing the new and preowned sections of AmiAmi to avoid any impulse purchases.

what I'm trying to do (very new to the hobby, very much don't have the budget for it :'), very susceptible to impulse purchases) is to not randomly browse... I have a list of figures that I want, and I have a mental budget for each, and those are the only figures I'm allowed to actually search and purchase. I have a few lowkey grails that I can see for reasonable prices rn, but I've already spent too much for the month, so I'm not buying 'em. maybe next month. maybe the month after! maybe they'll be gone, and that's okay, because financial responsibility is more important than miniaturised versions of my favourite characters.

equally, also doing what you're doing -- minimum two weeks between seeing something and preordering it.

I also want to keep my wishlist under 75. every so often, I'm going through it, contemplating how I'd feel if I saw it right then right now for like, 25 GBP, and if I wouldn't buy it, then I strike it off the list. it shouldn't be on there if it's not something I actually want to purchase down the line.
