Hello My Finger Collection I'm here for another review
This review will be picture heavy!! She's also slightly NSFW, in a pin-up way. She is not 18+ or castoff. Just be cautious if y'all are reading this at work basically. T&A shots galore
Today I'm reviewing ITEM #1142927 -- Kotobukiya's rendition of Morrigan Aensland from Darkstalkers (or Vampire, if you're Japanese). She was illustrated by Yamashita Shunya as a part of their Bishoujo Statue series. As full disclosure I do not know her LMAO I'm simple and I buy because pretty. I don't have any prior experience to this figure line, but I've had experiences with Koto before (their Trigun line).
I'm used to buying figures at higher price points and higher calibers (basically Native), so she's a change for me. I won't let this skew my review though, and I hope the pictures showcase her well if my words fail.
If you just want to see pictures, here's my picture album for her: users.v4.php?mo...
Figure photos were taken with a pure white colored ring light at different angles. I edited them to be closer to real life colors.
I preordered her from Amiami for 12k JPY back when she first went up for sale. The JPY to USD rate is at an advantage for USD at this point in time so I got her for 87.38 USD at the time of invoicing. She was 4,636 JPY / 33.76 USD to DHL her to the west coast USA with a nendoroid. Her box is pretty compact so it was a pleasant surprise to see her not cost an arm and a leg like I'm used to.
===
THE BOX

The inside of the box has vibrant art of a full moon.

Her blister is made of 2 pieces. She's sturdily packed in there with a lot of plastic and bubble wrap.

I like her box-- the design is cute and it's really sturdy. The thing is built like a fortress, it's not flimsy at all. It has nice promo shots of her and her art, with bat shaped windows. I don't really have any complaints here, especially when she's in such a compact box during these shipping price hikes. god bless
The box size is 25.5cm x 18cm x 17cm. it's about 7cm taller than an average nendoroid box.

SCULPTING/POSING/PAINTING
I group these 3 categories together since they go hand-in-hand.
Here she is at different angles-- below, at, and above eye level.

Spin around:

I think she's really well posed and sculpted! There's not many angles where she looks outright weird.
I really love how her hair is sculpted, it looks amazing in person. It looks 2D in pictures, but when in your hands you can really appreciate all the layers to it. It sounds weird but I also really like how they did her hairline at the top, there's no ugly blatant seam like usual. The color choices are nice too, a bright seafoam green with blue highlights.

Both her head and back wings have a shine to it, and it's hard to describe but there's like... a depth? If you've ever seen things captured in resin, it has a similar effect. It's not plasticky or waxy, it really does remind me of a bat's wing membranes. Kinda looks like jelly. Would you bite them y/n

I like the back of them less, it looks a little cheap, but it's not the end of the world. Then again, I think a matte would look worse. The pattern effect is nice. In a way, texturing the wings while not doing the same to other leather parts like her boots make them more realistic.

Her wings attach behind her hair.

Her suit/tights are well done too. I like the chunkiness of the fur around her arms, it kinda reminds me of piped frosting. It adds a regal flair to her, I prefer it to how they usually sculpt 1/4 bunny tails or just tack on some real fur/feathers. The motion of it is great. It seems like the paint on her fur was painted on translucent PVC so there's some parts that aren't as airbrushed as the others, specifically around her chest. There's also various seamlines on her fur, but I notice them less because they're in a visually busy area.
I like how her legs look more muscular and aren't just 2 sticks. She's in a fighting game after all, let her have Powerful Calves. One of the best parts of this figure to me. The paint and decals on her legs are fantastic too.

The folds are minimal but show the material is skin-tight.
I know some people thought her boobs looked weird but they look fine to me. Unga bunga or something but they also fall victim to the classic "boob weld". IMO her hair covering it and her pose squeezing them together makes it less bad. They have minimal shading.

I will sound like a caveman if I comment here but I like her Personality

I think one of the worst parts of this figure has to be her hands. There's some sculpting quirks on them, the right doesn't actually pinch her fabric (if it bothers you), and the finger band doesn't really... Exist? It ends going into the ether. Her left has a case of her finger jutting out of the glove weirdly more than looking attached to her body. Mine has a little bit of separation between glove and hand, which seems common. There's also some seamlines. Admittedly her hands are small since she's 1/7 scale, and we're not gonna look there anyways, but it's still an issue basically right in front of her. It's sloppy, but from my Koto experiences, sloppy hands aren't a surprise.
I like the slight pink airbrushing at the end of her fingers.

Her boots look pretty good. Not super detailed and sculpted, but they serve their purpose.

Mine seems to have a little bit of an airbrush ripple effect on her right boot. A minor defect I only noticed when editing these pics.

Her face was a MASSIVE argument point when she was unveiled: some people liked it, some haaaated it. I really love it. There's a lot of standard looking anime lady figures out there and this one finally did something different!! Love the slightly unhinged nature of it. 0 Complaints at all from me, they nailed it.
her face looks good from most angles, but it looks the best above eye level IMO.

Her tongue and teeth are sculpted. Her tongue has a bit of a seamline.

POSING: 10. She's dynamic and looks good from almost every angle.
SCULPTING: 7. There's some quirks here and there. Seamlines present for a lot.
PAINTING: 8. Really vivid and beautiful base colors, but there's lack of shading and defects in some areas. I think the cartoony nature of her can make up for it.
===
BASE
She comes attached, all in 1 piece. She's very sturdy on there.

There's plastic heel supports that look nearly invisible due to the color of the base. I like the base as a whole, it's more visually appealing than a plain plastic disk AND it doesn't take up much room. It's vibrant and neat looking for lack of better words LMAO
They go above and beyond to give us an appealing base for a low price, and I gotta give them a lot of credit, because other companies love a giant black disk.

SIZE COMPARISON
I collect mainly 1/6 scales so I don't have much to compare her to, and my other 1/7 is Kau (ITEM #740263), who is on all fours. Gaging by him, she is a smaller 1/7 scale.
Here she is with Rocket Boy's Alice (ITEM #331611) as an average 1/6 scale, and Gura (ITEM #1243231) as an average nendoroid.

Here she is with a prize figure of herself, a noodle stopper by FuRyu (and peepy) ITEM #581611

SUMMARY
I love this lady. Hand in marriage, ma'am. She has her quirks and she's not perfect. But honestly for 80 USD retail at the time of this review who cares LMAO Kotobukiya put this figure up for a steal of a price while every other figure continues to go up in ridiculous ranges and I wholeheartedly support them. If they release other pretty women I like at this quality and price range I'd happily buy.
I'm not sure if I'll get Lilith (ITEM #1386593) to match just yet, something feels off to me and I'd like to see them displayed together to really tell.
Pros: unique face, immaculate posing, vibrant and showy colors, a fun non-standard base, a cheap Morrigan for once-- and by extension a cheap figure in general for once
Cons: unique face (negatively), hand sculpting is not great, has some QC quirks, Kotobukiya quality is lesser than companies like Native and Alter

OVERALL: 8/10

Don't fit it...yet? ¬‿¬
Let's come back to this comment later when you get one of them haha
Loving the unhinged face, which is popping up on a lot more figures (especially Bomberman ones), keep those tongues out coming!!
Would you bite them y/n

I am a bit scared of peepyI didn't even notice the sticker, that's cute!! I also love the face... I've eyed those bomberman figures, the sculpting and faces are SO good but they don't quite fit my niche yet. Peepy is an acquired taste, just like Morrigan's face on this fig LMAO

The face is lovely and the wings are great but I am really not a fan of the rest. the mold lines are so visible and the hair looks like plasticine. I have no idea what they did to her hands but they are wack!
I think the face and the wings are definitely a focal point which is meant to draw attention but that doesn't mean you can slack on other details.Yeaaaah they really dropped the ball on the hands, I'm just glad she's small enough I don't notice in my Detolf. I love her but if you like perfection definitely give it a long think!!
manofcvltvre • 10 months ago • #112127685Long time Morrigan fan here, I think this is a great and affordable figure. Did I PO it the second I saw her? Yes. Will I enjoy the shit out of this when I get her in a month or two? You bet. This is straight centerpiece material for my collection. I'm gonna pass on Lilith, but will also get Felicia.man of culture is a correct username LMAO hope y'all enjoy her!!

My favorite pic had to be the one where your door is reflected in the box's window display. Something surreal about, almost as if you're holding a miniature door.Thank you, I'm glad I did well!! I didn't notice the door at all, I was trying so hard to not get my own reflection in the picture LMAO
Very artsy description... Had no idea I did something that cool unintentionally
ilasja • 10 months ago • #112115267She turned out soooo good I'm so excited to get mine!! Amiami was a little slow shipping her out but I finally got notification of shipment today :D Koto did a good job on this one so I can't wait to see the other girls!!Yaaaa I hope they do too!! I'd love for Lilith to turn out well, maybe if they sell enough we can get one of Lei Lei (ENTRY #5689)! Her design's so cool
I didn't preorder this figure - I'm hoping to poach one of these from AmiAmi if a few drop because of cancelled preorders.
Thanks for this review!I think the leather effect is really neat!! It's not like smooth "anime" type wings... Very unique and different but also might not be everyone's cup of tea since it's more realistic. Good luck with getting one!
woozi29 • 10 months ago • #112114456I love the detail they put on the textureIt's really cool!! They put so much love into something people normally wouldn't notice since it's from her back angle
MeatwadBishoujo • 10 months ago • #112114551Thanks so much for this review! I'll be honest, I'm upset with how the face came out, she looked more >:D with the original face and the new one feels a little dead eyed and tame to me (also the extra lock of hair at the front on the og showed more of an illusion of movement to me, but that I could ignore if I liked the face lol). I'm really glad you like her, though! If I change my mind at the least there will be more popping up in the states in September B)oooo yeah I can see what you mean about the face, they did change it a lot but I like it. She looks a little more unhinged LMAO
Highly recommend getting her... She's so pwetty
lauralone • 10 months ago • #112114561Thanks for the review of her. The energy you have in the review is a nice change of pace; I enjoyed reading.
Based on the photos, her wings do look like an exquisite type of jelly...
It is an eye-catching design.

no, vibrant colors are a sign of perniciousness
Personally I like her face, but don't LOVE it. Don't know the character well enough to complain though (:Thank you! I like to have fun here LMAO
We all gotta die sometime... if I go from biting the jelly wings it was time for me to go!!
Mama_Nana • 10 months ago • #112114705thanks for this review!
now I need to buy her because I actually adore her face lolI'm glad my review was able to help! She's so quirky... Love her
