Hello everyone, happy new year to you all!

I just had the time to take some more pics of Mei. As I wrote some time ago BLOG #55608 I think the base she comes with is kinda meh, so I decided to make another one.
I lasered a rounded triangle from 5mm acrylic and painted it with Green Stuff World's purple metal filter, followed by a matte black from the underside.

That purple filter paint is really cool, you can only see from a certain angle of view / illumination, other than that the base appears black.

Hope you enjoy her as much as I do, thanks for looking!

madmike1 month ago#119032576I thought long and hard about it, but a laser is such a nice tool to have, so I bought a Flux Beamo last year. Can you draw dxfs? I could cut some bases for you, no problem. Since we're both in the EU postage would be easy too ;)
Ahh, Yae is still missing from my Honkai collection. I'm looking for her True Flame version.
So cool! Man, thank you very much for your proposition, I appreciate a lot. Sometimes simple bases are ugly and I'll definitely think about the ones I would like to change and let you know. Yes, I have AutoCAD and I can produce dxfs.
Let me some time to prepare a file to send you, and you will let me know your price for the materials and the time to spend ok?
About the pegs: do you insert metal rods?
I forgot you were so close to me. If you ever live in west germany near the belgian or luxembourg border we could even meet.

I'd also love to own Yae Sakura true flame figure!

Archiwheel1 month ago#119021297OMG you have a laser ? So cool!
If it was me I think I would be tempted to make custom bases for half of my figures!
Yes, it's probably a matter of costs or logistics. The only figures I know with flat acrylic parts are very small series or high-end figures, like Apex's Yae Sakura (vertical support of the branch)

Archiwheel1 month ago#118968679Indeed it was much better on the prototype, closer to what you did.
Were you able to recreate the 3 holes and the 3 pegs in the acrylic base?
I don't know for the round bases but I agree it's strange. Maybe the manufacturers re-use the molds of such bases between figures and just change pegs?

I placed a sheet of paper on the original base and traced all the holes and the rim with a pencil. Then I scanned this sheet and used it as template for the creation of the dxf for my laser. The pegs didn't fit that great afterwards since the laser has a tolerance of about 0,1mm and the figure is not sitting perfectly flat either, but it works.

The only thing I can imagine is that they are doing injection anyway, so making a part with a completely different process like lasercutting would increase the complexity of production too much.
Changing an existing injection tool is not so easy since due to the high injection molding pressure you can see areas that have been tampered with pretty clearly on smooth surfaces.
Of course, an injected part with a slighty textured surface doesn't scratch as easily as my acrylic base does, so cleaning is easier. I think that they could have at least used a decent color, like a smoky translucent, rather than the listless opaque purple.

madmike1 month ago#118926633Thanky you everyone!
Thanks! My girlfriend has lots of 50s items around the house, many with this "rounded triangle" outlines, so I got inspired.
I just don't understand why the manufacturers go to the lengths of making an injection-plastic mould for an uninspired base instead of using simple lasercut acrylic sheets. When I pre-ordered her the base on the pics was also a different one, looking much better blog.mygrailwat...

Archiwheel1 month ago#118924027Hey that looks way better than the original base. It suits super well to the figure! And the purple effect looks great.
