1/7 Sakura Haruno DPCF Review1/7 Sakura Haruno DPCF Review

Hello all!

Today I finally received my DPCF Sakura Haruno from Hobby Search. I had high hopes for her and boy did she fall flat. But she has her positives as well!

I know a lot of people have been on the fence about this Sakura so hopefully this review will help them make up their minds. Sakura is one of my all time favorite characters so I was quite excited for her.
~~~~~~~~
Now bear with me folks, this is my first review. To add to that I just got done moving so there was little in the way of lighting, area and camera quality. I took the pictures with my iPhone 4S and I figured that would do for the moment.
Packaging
First off is her packaging. Its a lovely pink on the outside and a vibrant neon pink on the inside.
Now for the unboxing! Her blister is pretty simple. A few tape strips here and there and her base is secured in the bottom portion. You can get a good look at both Sakura and her accessories through the blister.
Figure - First Look
Next up are a few images of her prior to being put on the base. A quick one over if you will. She has some minor paint bleeding into the teeth of her jacket. Looks noticeably messy.
Holy kunai Batman! What the heck are those?!
Well, those are my main complaints with this otherwise good figure!
Seams seem to be everywhere! I understand that the hair must have been a pain in the butt to sculpt so I can forgive the seams to some degree. But the frayed paint/plastic fringe that lines half her major hair pieces is utter garbage! I would love to know how this got through DPCF's quality control!
A pic of her rather large base. I was hoping that her name would appear on the base but all we get is the Naruto and DPCF logos.
It took me a few seconds to get her pegs into the right spots. She stands quite well on her base.
ACCESSORIES
Now, lets get to the accessories!
Here we have her two monstrous axes! They look very sharp even though they are made of plastic. They look good quality aside from the wrappings (last image). Also, a strange white powder residue was on the underside of one of the axes and had fingerprint markings on it.
There was also an odd looking paint defect on the side of one of her axes.
The kusarigama looks very nice and the chain felt authentic!
Overall Sakura is a pretty good figure. I am both happy with her and disappointed. Below I will break down the positives and the negatives and provide an image summary of the issues.
Positives:
- For the most part, she is painted well.
- She has nice shading as do her accessories
- Her packaging is very vibrant
- She stands sturdy on her base
- She is dynamic
Negatives:
- She does look a tad soulless compared to the artwork it is based on
- There are some minor paint flaws such as the red from her outfit bleeding into the teeth of her jacket. Small paint blobs can be seen on the axes.
- The axes don't fit quite in her hands properly. I found myself constantly fiddling with her to try and get them to fit in her hands properly and stay there.
- The hair paint/plastic fringes that line a lo of her larger bangs are absolutely unacceptable. Quality control must have been asleep at the time of production because I otherwise cannot fathom such an issue passing through the production line. Especially from a company that always produces high quality work and charge a hefty price for their figures. To be honest the hair issue looked like something that you would see on a bootleg!
*UPDATE ON THE FRINGE*
Fellow MFC user brittkn33 has confirmed that the fringe is not an issue with every figure.
"I luckly didn't get any fringes but I did have plenty of paint defects."
*UPDATE ON THE AXES*
Her axes actuallly fit right, you just have to use the right axe. I noticed that they were two different sizes but I derped until I took a look at her today. Apologies on this. They are still finicky and she tends to come up off her base a bit when trying o fit the axes under her hands.
FINAL THOUGHTS
Overall I paid $100 for a figure that I thought would be amazing. Sakura doesn't get many figures and I was utterly excited when she was announced. I still held hope after they revealed her painted as well. Upon seeing her in person I am saddened by the quality and am reconsidering purchasing the future Sasuke and Kakashi from this line. But I am still content with her and she looks better from afar.
I would suggest rubbing down the excess plastic fringe that I talked about better. I think that is the major issue in my case.
Thanks for reading everyone! Hope I helped a few of you make up your minds! ^_^
If you would like any specific angles or focus on any part of the figure then please let me know and I will try to updae the review with the image/s ASAP.
ISSUE OVERVIEW
Please reference all of the good things about her as well. Don't want to leave a completely negative taste in your mouth. There's some good to the girl!
Mikaino Going to Gencon!
I'm lucky to have dodged that bullet.. Not a Sakura fan personally (ESPECIALLY her younger version), so I won't be picking this up. Maybe in secondhand market if she's cheap enough. x.x; I loved her box though xD
WHOA!! The hair is a big fail!! I think that they can do it a lot better...maybe they saw that Naruto sold well and they thought that Sakura too...No matter if not is too good...
aruvinkun (5 years ago) #1491887Very helpful review! Thank you very much! You sure are very understanding and forgiving on those flaws. I find them to be some really major flaws and this figure to be a total disaster considering that price tag. I would normally find a good sculpt with bad paint, or bad sculpt with good paint. But this is just tragic and a real big deal breaker! And it seems like the problem even started from the original design itself. Why 1 axe is shorter than the other is beyond me.. it's not a katana! and the hand not even holding one of it with such a large gap, urghhh! Those fringes! The ff should be forgivable for my if it ended there. That they didn't listen to the feedbacks from the community - the eyes are still dead. That right hand as if there are no joints, and I can even imagine how odd her fingers between her 2 hands would look if you stretch the fingers on her left hand. Even her legs don't have any details. I had high hopes in this series and I have naruto on the way. Hopefully he will look like the first release.
MobiusX (5 years ago) #1492217Not sure if I should consider this figure as a major blow to the Naruto series or to keep looking ahead. As a collector of ONLY THIS SERIES (wew), I really wish something overwhelmingly GREAT would come out of the factories one day, but the license doesn't seem to be flowing around all that well and with the mass production of female figures there's very little hope for this heavy Shonen title. Sad it does make me. Oh well, I've still got Megahouse's Sage Mode and Tsume's X-Tras to look into.
Awesome review by the way!
Let's hope that the upcoming Megahouse Kakashi and Naruto figures come out well!
Hmmm. I do want to get her to go with my Naruto, but I can't help but wish she was a bit cheaper. I don't mind her too much, just wish her eyes looked a bit fiercer and more determined.
Great review, thanks for letting us know about this figure!
I updated the review with your input about the fringe issue so that people know that it is a possibility, not an issue with every figure.
Thank you for your input!
Plume (5 years ago) #1491698Ah, thank you for all the pics and the thorough text :). The paint doesn't look bad to me. The hair however is AWFUL. If I ever find her for a good price I may try and get her but I really don't feel she's worth the price she's sold for now.
Thank you for the review :)
The paint really isnt that bad. The paint blob on the axe was a bit hard to photograph but the red on her zipper made me a tad upset. Luckily its mostly on the side of it. Her hair does have some issues. Luckily, according to another MFC user, it is not a problem with every Sakura.
Yeah, hopefully the re-release Naruto will look just as good as the initial release.
I wouldn't be so forgiving had it not been a figure of Sakura lol. I'm going to try and smooth out the seam lines soon. Hopefully Sasuke won't end up like this. Wont be surprised though.
And I think the axes not fitting the hands also stems from the spacing they did with the axe holders on the base. Its a pain in the butt to get her to actually hold them. They kinda just float. lol
