victorviper (5 months ago) #21609283It's in the review queue. I took a bunch of photos the other day, so I just have to write up the review :).

Nice! I'm looking forward to it! :)

I had a day off today and photographed a lot! So now I aso have a huge bunch of pictures I need to edit for future reviews! But I am glad that I finally have time again to be more active with reviewing. :)

Maakie (5 months ago) #21608286Ahhh, I love the outfit of ITEM #514170 too~ It's no secret that I love military/old-fashioned-uniform-style outfits, haha! I especially like on the figure how the boots are a bit saggy, because perfect fitting high boots are unrealistic anime-physics! I saw in the comments you already had her, were you also planning on reviewing this figure? I would be interested in a review! :)

victorviper (5 months ago) #21531154As far as CCS being a tough sell to figure-buyers, I wonder how many people who were watching the show back in the early 2000's (I can't believe the show finished its run 17 years ago!) have stuck with anime as a hobby and have evolved into figure buyers :). It seems like that would sort of be the target market for higher-end Sakura figures.
One thing I like about Sakura's bat-costume is that it is different than most of her other battle costumes. While I like her frilly and girly costumes (like the one in this review!) as much as the next guy, that costume is neat because it's a little less so.
The bat costume would certainly be a neat cosplay project. It seems like it might be an easier undertaking than most of Sakura's costumes, although maybe the diamond pattern that was a key feature of that outfit might be tough to actually do (hard to say since I have no sewing skills). This month's figure haul did contain a Sakura figure with another neat and non-frilly outfit ITEM #514170. That could also be a cool cosplay project; I always liked how clean and simple that outfit was!

Yes, and I think a big part of that target market is also buying the figures, but still, that's already a smaller group than let's say: Keychains from Sakura. Keychains are cheap and can be collected both by the older generation and newer generation! I am curious if the new anime will attract a lot of new, young fans or that it's rather a nostalgia-trip for the older fans (like Sailor Moon Crystal). One thing that I do like is how the CCS anime aged so well. It's indeed already 17 years old, but the animation doesn't feel as outdated as a lot of other series from that time. I recently saw saw some gifs of someone that retimed, recolored and refiltered some CCS footage, to make it look more like our digital coloring and frame-pace nowadays and it looks so pretty! I can't find the full blog right now, but I had these 2 gifs links saved, which seem to be still working:

I am always in love with this shot, also in the original version: file2.instiz.ne...

Yeah, I think that is also one of the reasons why I like it so much. It's very different from her other outfits which are mostly dresses or are with poofy-pants/shorts if there is legwear. Also the whole burglar-episode was just very cute!

Oh yes, cosplay-wise I think that outfit is probably the one coming most close to regular clothing, so it should not be hard to make. As for the diamond-pattern: That's all about aligning and adjusting if needed. So it's not hard, but you just need a loooot of patience with the outfit. With a lot of simple outfits, they can give you more frustration than working on an elaborate one, haha!

Maakie (5 months ago) #21526422Haha, sorry whenever it comes to Sakura I get in full-ramble mode. xD And you're right, the other Koto Sakura really makes me think of beginning of manga/anime Sakura, where she just became a magical girl. :)
I guess Sakura fans are a bit of a though audience. There are both male and female fans, but I feel like there are a lot more females. And in Japan a lot of companies seem to think that girls want goods and guys want figures. And also it's a 'kids' series, so the newer generations won't buy the pricey figures, they really need the older fans from the manga and anime to pick up expensive scaled figures. Still, I think the Sakura's made so far by multiple companies in the last few years, have been selling pretty okay? I mean, they are not pumping them out as fast as Sonico's, but there is a steady flow of Sakura figures nowadays. :)
Yeah, me too! That outift was for me also the first I considered cosplaying from CCS (never ended up doing it though haha). I absolutely fell in love with that episode the first time I saw it. :) And well, there has already been a prize figure made of it in the past, so I can see it as a pretty big chance in the future. :) But first I think they will make more cute frilly dresses-Sakura's before trying out a more 'though' one.
And ugh, I would like any other character from the series getting a figure too! Luckily ITEM #464229 was announced, but I have a bit of a bad feeling about this one ever releasing to be honest... >.< I'm looking forward to the new anime, though! :)

victorviper (5 months ago) #21457185Indeed, the third season opening is a little more serious in tone than the other two openings. However, comparing this Sakura to the other Koto figure ITEM #236143 , I think this Sakura does look a little bit older and more mature.
I've always been a little surprised at how few proper scale figures there are from CCS. Maybe the intersection of the CCS fanbase and the anime figure buying demographic is just not all that big...
The episode with the bat burglar costume was always one of my favorites, and that costume was a pretty unique one, so I'm crossing my fingers that maybe someday a figure of Sakura in that costume will get made. Maybe the new season of CCS anime next year will spur a new wave of figures! I'm also waiting for a proper figure of Meilin to get made...

Maakie (5 months ago) #21457135So much Sakura figures have been made recently I pretty much forgot about this one until I read your review (woops!).

Although I like the cheerfullness of this figure, I do think the 3rd OP gives off a more adult and serious look for Sakura, which gives me a bit mixed feelings about this figure. It would have been nice if she came with a second face, with a more serious look (as Kotobukiya has released quite some figures with an alternative face swap).
And yes, I would also love an scaled figure of the 'bat burglar' outfit! That would really tempt me to get into collecting Sakura figures again! <3
    Nice review again! :)

So much Sakura figures have been made recently I pretty much forgot about this one until I read your review (woops!).

I had to laugh at the super tiny star window on the side of the box...it's not even on a focus point of the figure, haha!

This figure is very impressive with the big wings. With your pictures and talking about assembling, I was getting flashbacks to assembling my own Tenshi. xD You also mention some defects, such as her fingers, which I find very hard to see on the pictures. So in my eyes this figure is (close to) perfect. :) If I would nitpick, I guess the sculpt of the wings is a bit rough here and there and the seamline is indeed also a bit weird. If I remember correctly Tenshi's wings don't have any seamlines, but those also consist of only one layer of wing sculpt.

Also those cute bloomers under her skirt! <3

If anyone is wondering, this figure by itself had 5400Y EMS shipping for me from Amiami. She arrived in a week's time.

sanzo_reload (6 months ago) #21270881*gaps* 5000 yen for the shipping *faints*
My absolute favorite part is "Kotobukiya for their own inscrutable reasons puts a tiny little star-shaped window there". LOL
Anyways, thanks for the really nice review and congrats on adding this beautiful figure to your collection!

5000 yen for the shipping is a little bit of a guesstimate; I had this figure and a little prize figure shipped together and the total shipping was 5900 yen.

Anyway, thanks for the nice comment!
