I see the point of rating the base as high as 5 or 6 when the base performs well over time. I also see that I was looking at bases more as esthetically then functionally. I guess I am shallow LOL you are not pretty... I do not like you ...

victorviper (6 months ago) #21300325View spoilerHide spoilerHere's my rubric.
10/10-Highly attractive and functional base that perfectly complements the figure.
Examples: Koto's Gothic Lolita Asuka blog/16539 with the cool stair base, this blog/9804 Koto Asuka, Beagle's Chris blog/24242.
8-9/10-A base that is not only functional but is attractive.
    Examples: Koto's recent Sakura Kinomoto blog/33179, GSC's Triela blog/9286.
6-7/10-A base that is functional but possibly plain and boring.
    Example: Taito's Pochaco blog/30343.
5/10-A base that is of questionable functionality.
    Example: Sega's Sakura Kinomoto blog/12760.
3-4/10-A base that can be made to work, but requires some effort by the owner of the figure to actually be made functional.
    Example: Penguin Parade's Kuroko Shirai blog/10028 .
0,1,2/10-A base that is so poorly designed that there's no chance of being able to use (or even modify) it for its intended purpose. I haven't really come across anything like this, but I don't doubt they're out there...
I like this rubric a lot. You give at least 5 points to a base if it's functional and stands the test of time (few/no reports of broken pegs, leanings, etc). Function before form, but form adds to the function. A base of 10 goes above and beyond, not only does it work in keeping the figure up and looking good, but also complements the figure (like Tia's examples of Asuka's bases).

I'd reserve ratings of 1 or 2 for bases that don't support the figure adequately or detract from the figure somehow (for example by being a bright colour that doesn't fit with the figure's colour scheme). I don't particularly mind plain bases.

    10pt
    Rough ratings:

1 - a base that isn't good at keeping the figure up or holding it up.
3 - a base that's likely to break or fail due to poor construction, short pegs, etc.
5 - a plain base that does its job.
7 - a base that does its job and maybe has some decals
10 - sculped base, well executed, as well as doing its job and keeping the figure up.

Honestly, I'm not too fussed by 5 bases (figmas, RAHs) but I prefer bases that would score 7 or higher.

I base it on appeal (does it compliment the figure? Is it plain?)
And if it does its job (preventing from leaning, stabilised) if its unappealing yet does its job i stick with a 6. But its hard to rate tbh..
Its like the user below me already mentioned, everyone rates it differently

I rate the bases depending on:
    1- Design
2- Effectivity (makes the figure stand well, doesn't make it lean...)
But bases are something very subjective to rate. Some people rate them for the design, others for the size, the effectivity...
