Comments Official vs Bootleg: Kotobukiya Ayanami Rei - Party Dress ver.

  • dtindcarea2 days ago#83366946There are so many official Eva figures (new and old) that I don't think I ever considered this one. Any fan of Eva has to have a Rei or two in their collection. You can tell that the official is an older figure because it looks like some of my figures I have that were made around that time. In other words, the figures tended to be simplier and less detailed. That should imply that the bootleggers would have an easier time replicating it and I'd say that they did for the most part. The biggest problems with the bootleg seem to be cheaping out on the manufacturing/painting (and ultimately QC) of the figure. Thanks for the review.

Yeah, agreed - definitely simpler than equivalent modern figures.

I may have a Rei or two in my collection... and then some.

Oops, forgot to put it into the article, but I bought her from Mandarake (in 2017).

I wonder if the reason for so much of the box text missing is that they have someone typing it all up again and that takes time so they do as little as they think they can get away with, hence so much of the missing text.
If they just scanned and printed then it would be exactly the same.
What is the weight like, i have 3 figures from the same range and they feel pretty heavy.

    Possibly. I don't think she's particularly heavy.

It still surprises me that bootlegs could cost so much for oh so much lesser quality

Thanks for another comparison! I felt that this bootleg was pretty decent for bootleg quality, since she looks close enough to the original from afar. Of course, when you scrutinise her up close, then all the imperfections are very obvious. The price for the real deal is already quite low, so I don't think it's worth it getting this, even if one is a "bootleg collector".
