Comments How big is MFC? Is anime figure collecting community growing?

Maybe it's because I tend to lurk, but in my (apparently, wow) six years on this site, it feels like the community's expanded. Maybe not a lot, overall, but it still definitely feels that way. I keep seeing people talk about the site updates and the toxicity of the community being off-putting, and I get that, I guess. But personally, I've long since adapted to each update and all of my interactions have been really friendly. This site's still fun and it's still the best tool I've found for managing my collection! :)

Not OP but you can check out r/animefigures for anime figures in general or r/actionfigures for mainly Western IP figures though I do see some anime figures there. If you like Nendoroids, you can check out r/nendoroid.

    I’m sure there are more!

@OP As someone who likes to lurk, I do notice that there are less views on blog posts vs before (based on some older articles I saw). Maybe it seems like there are less users on MFC vs other sites like Reddit but what do I know? I think discord is also a thing too - at least for the Nendoroid fans /I’m kind of biased here ngl.

Well, a quick search brought up this subreddit; might be worth checking out?

Odd ... to me, this site feels like it's been at the same level of activity the whole time I've been here, and if anything, feels bigger? Just with all the figures and items that are constantly being added. Popular figures still get tons of comments on their pages and people post blogs every day. Some groups are more active than others, but that's to be expected ... we still get lots of photos uploaded every day and I'd say this is still the #1 place to keep up with figure collecting overall.

I don't feel like people have "moved" to reddit at all. Honestly, the anime figures subreddit mostly feels filled with noobs who don't know what they are doing - tons of questions about what figures are, where to find them, etc.

These are some very interesting comments. Mostly I've only used this site to actually track my collection, and not really be involved in anything from a 'community' aspect. (Socializing IRL is infinitely more important IMO)

Although the percentage of figures I own that aren't on MFC slowly grows every few months. So it begs the question in a few years from now will I even use this site anymore if my entire collection turns into non-Japanese pieces?

This community is getting smaller, it used to be more active and more fun but over the years it's been in decline and after sticking around here for 10 years I feel like this is the year a lot of collectors stop collecting these figures and move on.

There were 2 mass exoduses during my time here when the site was updated and since the last update this site hasn't been that active.

Seen more Toxic behavior here and recently it hasn't been as bad as I've seen the last few years but still the site's community isn't as big as it was when I joined and feels like there are only a handful of dedicated MFC Users here these days.

Moomoogirl111 days ago#89992857I feel the anime figure community is growing bigger but the MFC community is growing smaller. I've been here for over two years and it feels like I'm a fish in a pond sometimes (which is partly why I enjoy the site). Meanwhile I go on other platforms and see a larger pool of collectors.
It doesn't help that MFC shoots itself in the foot by not listening a user input and making the site more cumbersome to navigate. A lot of people left after certain updates. I sometimes wonder if the owner of this site even collects figures anymore.

Yeah...I've tried to suggest improvements to MFC but it's like talking to a wall. Oh well :P

@OP i feel like MFC (and merch collecting groups in general) might see a dip in activity when financial issues really start kicking in. 2021 is gonna be an important year in that regard so we'll have to see what happens! MFC in specific has seen a gradual decline in article activity at least, as VictorViper astutely noticed and mentioned as well.
