Comments NSFW: castoffs/ adult figures

Great Figures, Amazing Service, Fantastic Price!
  • I don't understand how people can feel like a creep because of the type of figures they collect. Why would they collect NSFW figures just to hide them away and feel shameful about it. I've shown my collection to a few close friends, and have lost some. (even though the only NSFW figure I own is ITEM #861751, and only because I display her topless.) The people in my life would not be able to handle Native, or Binding products in a million years. They would have a heart attack at he sight of anything manufactured by Giga Pulse.

It's awesome your fiancé thinks that way, a bit humorous almost.

MFC is a go-to site for me, I find myself checking it often once a day to see how other collectors are fairing and to talk with people about the type of anime and figures I enjoy, primarily more ecchi things that my friends in person seem to despise.

Interesting comments. I have quite a few NSFW figures. I’m long past any parent issue. However I have a separate small bedroom that is the “figure room” with 8 detolfs -you can see pictures under my profile.

So I keep that room closed off and very few people have seen it. It doesn’t make me feel like a creep as some say here, but in rural Minnesota there are few who have any clue what a figure even is. One friend calls it a “porn doll collection”. I don’t have any interest trying to explain it to anyone. I’ve had confused reaction to my Sonico space police prize figure. They sure couldn’t handle anything by Native.

Meanwhile my Japanese fiancé has no problem with it, but she collects Louis Vuitton bags and sees it as the same kind of thing. No kidding!

Finally, I come to MFC when I want to share with people who really understand.

Solatic4 months ago#99521551I don't really understand if I'm being honest, I'm not concerned with whether a friendship ends over something trivial like my figures or successes, it was a weak friendship if that's all it took to end. I don't think people will automatically go to how you use the figures if you display them well lit and in a clean environment as I mentioned before. Also, if someone is telling people you collect sex dolls, call them out on it. For starters it's rude and unappreciated to share things about your personal life, but also it's not even correct, as sex dolls aren't what you're collecting only a weasel would try to spin it that way.

Alright, i will address the original post more directly instead of circling around.
I think our discussion did address how owning+hiding appears to be creepy.

How about owning+displaying makes the owner look more vulgar? I think this component contributes to the "look of disappointment" by family members.

should have just said nothing is worth earning that look of disappointment due to a hobby. Even when it is triggered due to a difference in values, the pain for the counterparty is real.

Guy93944 months ago#99481847Sorry didn't mean to prolong this. The NSFW figure are really not safe for everyone. These figures tend to have expressions that are "inviting", for dudes, this is the lady in red in the room. Especially when the guests are not fellow collectors or also not anime fans, the topic shifted to those specific figures real soon. Imagine i really wanted show Persona or One Piece, like you said as decorations but people tend to imagine what i do with the ketchup...
At least in my prior experience, friendships can go through tough times, like some people can't stand seeing your achievements and need to bad mouth. Ive heard as bad as "he collect sex dolls" mentioned in a reunion, when i only started and have a few safe gundam girls figures.
Once it spreads, not fun at all.

Solatic4 months ago#99473727You say there is zero impact on self perception, but you frame the benefit as "if not caught" which is exactly something I was referring to. I don't think framing yourself in a way where you can have that mindset is worth it. Granted, I don't see what benefit there is in this anyway. I think you could easily go to the "far end of the distribution" for fun and equally not worry about any "consequences". Again, especially if you just own that it's weird and play it off cool, don't be a weird about it and most people probably will just not pay it much mind.
Also, I think it sort of defeats the point of even owning figures in the first place. They're for you to display and look at for enjoyment, sort of like a decoration, no? I mean, I know what ketchup is used for, I don't think I wanna know what you would use these "far end of the distribution" figures lol. Whatever works for you though. I just would really not recommend people follow your example is all.

I remember when my 1/4 Akeno figure came. I set her up before my mom walked in and she slowly approached it. Took a long look at the figure then at me and said "Collecting porn figures now, eh.". We both laughed and she still jokingly pokes at me when I get any kind of seemingly ecchi figure.
