Comments Falling out of love with a figure before it even arrives?

  • KittenMix12 days ago#101227138Honestly I'm starting to feel like this for ITEM #1085446 She's been delayed twice now (the second time was on the last day of august -_-) and now it's almost the middle of September with no sign of her. It's even more annoying since the US good smile shop was the only shop (that I know of) to delay this figure. I know I'll love her when I eventually get it, I'm just tired of waiting for a figure I pre ordered over 200 days ago...That's so weird hearing about this delay! I ordered mine from their international site (I'm in the US) and got mine two months ago! I've never used the US only shop but after hearing about this I probably wont touch it. Did they even tell you what caused the delay?

I honestly can't relate to this feeling of falling out of love due to figure delays. Rather, I double down on chasing after them and think about them constantly when the topic of collecting comes up.

If you don't want her anymore, I'm more than happy to take over your preorder for you and send over the money now!

I waited two years for ITEM #691821 !

She was delayed over a year from her original release date. I was honestly so tired of waiting for her at that point haha... when I got her, I was happy with her and all of course, but it really ruined some of the excitement I usually feel.

I'm okay with delays of a couple months, heck even 6 months I would be able to live with. But over a year? I really try to be understanding and empathetic towards manufacturers, but when delays get that big, I wish they would provide a more clear explanation as to what happened to customers and what they will be doing in the future to avoid it.

I delayed delivery of my figures (more than a month now) because I'll be moving and prefer to have them delivered to the new place but I'm still excited to see them all soon physically! Not as excited as when I was informed it has arrived, but still excited nevertheless!

You say you don't want to review it, but I think your review will be more beneficial than you think. You might have insight others lack.

I usually cancel a lot of things because of this exact same reason.. seeing everyone have something kinda makes you lose the massive amount of love you had for it when you first wanted to get it, a lot of the figures I order are usually due to my impulses and most of the time I tend to order stuff just to order them and get on with the hype, but after reflecting they're not even that great and I know I could get them eventually someday, only stuff I feel like it's "necessary" to pre-order are very popular items that you know that why skyrocket in price, but even after ordering stuff I sometimes fall out of love with them incredibly quickly, it's kinda of weird, you get a figure you REALLY want, then after a while it's just on the shelf collecting dust and it's like damn... it's just there now. the spark kind of ends (for me) when you finally recieve it, sometimes the hype makes you more excited than actually getting the item you've always wanted.

Atsunome12 days ago#101219577It’s not as simple as you make it out to be. It’s not the lack of feeling “instant gratification”, it’s the fact that she was set to release in July and I feel as though I’ve been lied to in a way. I was prepared to wait until July - and I did, yet GSC still hasn’t given me even a clue as to where all of my money (which I don’t have a lot of at the moment) went, or when it will be arriving.
As I mentioned in the post, the stress associated with having to chase her is now tied to the figure itself. Calling that just “something so immaterial” is rather insulting to those who deal with anxiety or have issues trusting companies to deliver their goods.
So yeah, that’s my response. Have a nice day!

I do apologize if I came off flippant and dismissive; I allowed an issue I was dealing with offline affect my comment, and for which I am sorry.

I definitely do get having the stress of something tied to objects; funny enough, I am dealing with FedEx “misplacing” a figure shipment to me at this very moment… and that has been a source of a lot of frustration.

I guess, I should rephrase what I meant: while the process can be maddening and slow and frustrating, and can make the “anticipation” of a figure sour, for me though, that doesn’t affect my enjoyment of the item itself, perhaps it even makes me more thankful for it due to all the extra work it caused in getting it

So, once again, I apologize for my tone earlier, it was not intended but was the result nonetheless. I hope whatever packages are causing you stress arrive safely (and mine too!).

TheClive13 days ago#101217914Sorry but I can't relate... I don't understand an opinion changing just because it's taking awhile to arrive. It seems in that case the instant gratification of getting it was more important than the figure itself. If just waiting for it makes you not like it... what was it then that made you like it if something so immaterial to the figure itself could change your opinion?
I've had figures take over a year to ship and I only fell in love with the figures more with the anticipation of them eventually arriving.

Never experienced this TBQH. I do have one or two figures that I could easily let go of to make room for newer things but it's not like I fell out of love with them. I've always looked forward to all my preorders. Probably because I stick to the characters I really love. If I really had to choose some out of the things in my collection:

ITEM #1131747 Preordered her for my love of Merlin but I could probably have lived without. Still cute though.
ENTRY #212997 Final product was only shown upon release and not a fan of half of them, but I didn't know how they turned out until they released. Currently waiting to receive them any day and I might change my mind when I actually hold them.
