And yes; Megahouse’s prices and distro have been BS for a while. Angewomon was a nightmare to procure but Airi’s price is just crazy. I love me some Queen’s Blade and love the idea of new figures, (Airi needed a refresh especially) but no. MH what the hell are you thinking ??

Plus the aftermarket is unpredictable. All it takes is three months for either a figure to hit bargain bin or double in price.
GSC’s Godoka, Cardcaptor Sakura Stars Bless You and Max Factory’s Black Bunny Sheryl Nome were all big time, showy figures that ended up being super discounted because they didn’t sell very much. Then you have tiny pieces (My Hero Academia Nendos, WonFes figma exclusives) that sell out instantly and hit $100 a piece easy. And of course the Bishoujo/Yamashita girls that can go either way (wide re-release or just cancelled).
The market is very volatile now compared to years past. But yes, the (initial) asking prices for some of these are insane. Granted the detail on some of these are fantastic, but again, will the value of these pieces even hold overtime ?

I looked also at the maid price and was like wtf.
And cmon that Saber price is somehow justified , she is 50 cm tall and with a horse .
The only thing I dislike about her are those balloon tits.
When I looked at the pictures I was like fuck this will be 30-40 yen.

In the case of I know that it is at least as big as a 1/4 or as tall or taller than a detolf shelf so that may have something to do with the price. However you are right, the cost of figures has jumped a lot recently.
RE CaptainZ This may be true to some extent, yet some manufacturers quality has not declined although their prices have increased *cough Alter cough*

More pvc made than in the past, more people are also collecting. Seems as if the sentimental value of hobby itself changing. Some consider it as toys, others consider as collectible. It is leaning more towards toy nowdays as more accessible. PVC is less specialized good but something more based on turnovers. I think that allowed companies to test market.

The fact that you cherry-picked two examples to suit your argument is
not
a fair way to test a hypothesis.
.
The OP's examples are bad but the general premises are correct. Figures have not improved in fact they have somewhat declined in quality and QC yet the prices still keep going up.

Prices have risen over the past year, nobody disputes this, but the sample you've chosen cannot be determined as representative of the entire population of 1/8 scale figures. Collectors may have this conversation all they want, but unless someone is inside one of these companies, they have no sound basis for determining why said company charges what they do. I'll just go about my business and continue collecting within my limits. Should figure prices exceed what I am willing to pay, then that is money well saved. I don't see any reason to look any further into something that is out of my control. These kind of blogs are frankly not all that insightful, as sincere as they may be.

As a big Queen's Blade fan, items
ITEM #645877
and
ITEM #645885
are a sticker shock for me. How are they more expensive then Item
ITEM #552329
and
ITEM #552334
which I have on pre-order. Oh, and the declining CAD$ is making things worse.
Yeah, amakuni and megahouse are out of their fucking minds. And the crazy thing is I think the older figures from pre 2010 are nice if not just as good

Whelp, thank god I don't collect scales that much LOL. Although figma and nendoroid prices have also been rising at an alarming rate recently, while the effort being put into producing them (accessories-wise, mostly, but also a bit of lacking in painting and sculpting) is going down. Sob.
