I am so shocked by how many responses this got! As I said in last comment I am enjoying reading every single one and happy most people are being nice about their opinions. Everyone has their own ways and personal rules. It's quite fascinating.

Short answer: no.
Long answer: I don’t have enough space or funds to purchase a figurine of a character/franchise I know absolutely nothing about. I would rather spend that money on a character I do know, although there’s nothing wrong with doing the opposite!

Kotobukiya's Panis Angelicus 1/8 scale figure
ITEM #143931
is a figure that I absolutely adore even though I had never heard of the character at the time I had bought it.

No, I never really like getting figures of characters that I know little about.
Mainly because I have a limited amount of interests as an autistic person. But when I do, I just end up regretting it to the point where I get angry at myself for doing so, and then I proceed to sell them on eBay or just give it away to those near me who wanted it.

Haven't seen this topic posted in a week, but here we go again.
Yes, the first figure I ever bought, the whole reason I got into figure collecting, was a character I didn't know Which was GSC's Shimakaze. Most of my figures are from sources I am already familiar with, but every so often I'll pick up something I have zero knowledge of, and that leads me to discover new media. KanColle, Yosuga no Sora, Saki, Oboro Muramasa, and Eiyuu Senki are some examples of sources I bought figures from BEFORE I knew the source itself.

No, it's a little too self-indulgent for me. If I get a figure it's because I really like the character lol

i do not like to buy figures of anything that i'm not into, and i'm very very picky about which figures i buy. since i'm a big fan of vocaloid/vocalsynth, the large majority of my collection is just vocaloid/vocalsynth characters--mostly miku, since she's the most popular. the only figure i've considered buying that's of a media i haven't gotten into is
ITEM #1125881
, and that's just because i really like spiders and this nendoroid in particular is absolutely adorable.
