Comments Ever Fixed a Broken Figure on Your Own?

  • I just recently had ITEM #121205 ITEM #213884 and ITEM #740816 all break on me when the shelf they were on snapped, but I've managed to repair them all and get them looking good!

Yup, all the time - in fact, I buy figures I want quite often with damage. Gotten lots of amazing deals that way. Being able to fix figures is a really useful skill to have, especially when you're collecting older ones.

Yep! I broke one of ITEM #813031's earrings off because I thought it might be detachable. Used some super glue to put it back. I always liked having super glue on hand for broken things, but since collecting figures, I feel it's almost essential. I had my share of taking out broken pegs out of sockets too.

I bought ITEM #156680 knowing that it was probable that one of her twintails would break off in transit.

I just used my trusty pin vice to drill a tiny hole into the snapped-off peg and into Kodama's twintail, and made a makeshift pin by snipping off a piece of paperclip.

Good as new, and no glue needed!

I once had super glue ooze during a repair and it stripped the paint when I wiped it off. But it was in a hard to see area so didn't bother me.

I also deliberately buy broken figures from Yahoo Auctions, Mandarake etc and fix them up because you can can get them at a discounted price. It's just satisfying to see them come back together nicely.

first scale figure ever - ITEM #236175. his plate doesnt balance well at all and it kept falling off and eventually the little king piece fell off. i resigned myself to never finding it but it randomly appeared right below my bed like a month later :0 had to apply superglue with a little toothpick and the cross is still gone but its better than nothing lol

SebastianLover12 days ago#97924584It seems to have worked out for you, but I would not recommend gorilla glue for figures. It expands as it dries and if you apply too much your repair will come apart, and with the tiny surface area you're working with chances are you'll apply too much. Super glue works a lot better.

Thanks for the advice! I actually used the end tip of a floss stick to gently rub the glue on the metal pole that attaches the pigtail to the hole in her head, so there wouldn't be enough to dry and expand out. I'll definitely keep the Super Glue in mind next time, though!

Hey I just bought Cure Beat earlier this week! What a coincidence.

I think you'd be hard-pressed to find someone who hasn't broken a figure before outside of newer collectors. It happens to the best of us and I feel is an eventuality if you collect long enough. It's better to get used to it and not expect your figures to stay perfect. At least for a lot of breaks it tends to be pretty clean and easy to glue back together.

I'm clumsy and my figures live next to books that sometimes topple so I've lost count of how many figures I've fixed ^^

You made the right call, accepting that wear and tear is part of every object's life is unpleasant at first but you're saving yourself a lot of headaches in the future.

When assembling ITEM #844778 I accidentally snapped the pegs. I freaked out a little, and tried to repair him with the only glue we had in the house and it didn't work. But, after calming down a bit, I bought some stronger super glue. With an extra set of hands, the glue held perfectly and he stands as good as new! I was overjoyed and relieved, he's such a gorgeous figure.
