Bootleg Finders
This club is dedicated to finding bootlegs and preventing people from buying them. What's a bootleg? Broadly speaking, it refers to any item/media/etc. that is reproduced and sold without licensing or taxation; it is an illegal business! Many places sell bootleg figures and media because they are cheap to reproduce and have a bigger profit turnover. Sellers take advantage of both new and old collectors alike with this business. The goal of this club is to educate and prevent members of My Figure Collection from falling for bootlegs.
If you find products you think are bootlegged, are not properly marked in our database, or aren't linked here please post or let a MOD or ADM know so we can change it.
For an ongoing list of Ebay bootleg sellers please check this thread: club/139/discus...

Some common signs of bootlegs and a bootleg seller:
• Price too good to be true (e.g. $40 USD for a figure that normally retails for $100-$150 USD)
• Shiny, fake plastic looking skin or parts
• Noticeable seams, details seem to be missing, parts may not be molded correctly, eyes look different than original figure
• Lack of a holographic sticker (may or may not be true, some official products lack official stickers as well)
• Jointed figures (Nendoroid, Figmas, Figuarts...) may appear loose or like they're about to fall apart
• Seller lists other known bootleg products or other large amounts of cheap merchandise (jewelry, electronics, etc.)
• Seller's username is a combination of random letters/numbers (e.g. 1327198, xmg50427867-4)
• Listing does not state the company or that the figure is legitimate. They may use phrasing such as "China version, China original, China homegrown product", terms such as "new PVC statue, PVC figure, 100% High Quality Brand New", or nothing at all

jp.mercari.com/... / ITEM #205218 ITEM #156870The prize (and Kuji) figures before 2015 are of lesser quality than nowadays. They're considered rough even in release time. They aren't bootlegs, that's for sure. And I have suspicions if photos of the "bootleg" in Kyouko's gallery are of a counterfeit copy - the box has a sticker of authentity.
The seller says it's a sunburn and it looks like one. It can be treated by taking off Chiaki in parts with hairdryer/hot water (the plastic and glue will soften, the paint will be intact, check BLOG #60257) and put skin parts in a mixture of vinegar and lemon acid to make her pale again (check BLOG #5585). The mixture works well to get rid of cigarette smoke too.

the figure has no box, so i can not estimate the retail value but the buyer wants 60€ that seems to me a very good price, if she is not a bootlegIt looks good! I'm sure is official. Green parts are nicely shaded, black stripes are clean, no visible seams. The details on a weapon a sharp. She has an extra birthmark on a thigh - it makes this figure unique, I have a similar mark on one of my preowned figures.
The figure is dusty (see the grey line under a belt and grey cover on a weapon, I guess the color of hair is also affected by this) so once you get her, take her to a bath with soapy water.
By the way, this Sinon figure has no known bootlegs (it would have a counterfeit warning, like ITEM #198579). The paint is clean, but black stripes may got painted out of line, like this copy in shoulders area PICTURE #1319913. The bootleg would be more messy, see the photo of Koto figure PICTURE #1403780
Oh sorry, i checked the link. Now it should work!

drive.google.co...Hi, I'd love to check photos, but seems like there's no permission for people using the link to see photos. Can you check that?

I've got a bootleg figure/keychain from aliexpress () and recently I learned that bootleg figures might be made out of toxic materials, like lead. I wanted to ask, what should I do with it? I don't really want to throw it out, but I'm scared for my health...
lead will only harm you if ingested or inhaled. So in other words, dont chew or eat it, dont burn it and inhale the fumes, dont sand it and inhale the dust. if you have toddlers or animals at home do not let them have access to the item so they dont chew on it. merely touching an item with lead will not harm you.
It's clearly a polystone figure: detailed and weathered parts of the suit and the stone feeling of the figure. The photos of authenticity card and the box helps - the text on the card is well written. The text on bootlegs boxes (if they're included) are usually gibberish.
Never heard of bootlegs made in polystone. The few bootlegs based on statues are made of PVC and a lot of details are lost, see this unofficial statue of Nezuko by Magic Cube Studio myanimeshelf.co... and it's bootleg View spoilerHide spoiler
Your figure is definitely legit. Statues are heavy - be prepared for a hefty shipping fee as it may double the total price of the figure.
Ah well thats a relief to hear, was a bit extra worried since he was on Mandarake too just for a heftier sum and i wasnt't sure wheter i was getting a great deal or being a clown for not taking the obviously safe option. Thank you for taking the time to take a look and for the very thorough response too!

jokes aside - if you are scared about your health and you are sure it is a bootleg just get rid of it. i really don't understand why you are even asking. health more important than any piece of plastic imo. what else would you do?
