From the Yamato 2202 episode 1 trailer, Akira is sport a red jumpsuit as a trainer! I suspect, if Megahouse is lazy, they will re-release this one with short hair...

Just picked her up from the post office. All I can say is...wow! This is my second addition to my Yamato Girls collection. Glad, so very glad I went with this choice when it showed up on AmiAmi. May have been significantly more expensive than the standard variant but com'on, the long hair, the red suit that compliments everything, the nice amount of cleavage, the red suit that compliments everything, the somewhat seductive yet "I have no time to be bothered" look..and did I mention that red suit that compliments everything?

Yes...glad I chose her.

My YGC Award: Most Outrageous Outfit

I have to admit, the one YGC that really stirred my interest was the original Akira Yamamoto 1.0. That black/dark blue on yellow outfit with the plunging cleavage certainly has the "Wow!" factor that the 1st release "Mori Yuki" lacks. Now switch out the black/yellow colors with red/orange color and add back the gloss that was supposed to be in the original release, and we have a highly seductive Akira Yamamoto sporting nothing but red paint and I haven't even mention the plunging cleavage, have I?

Thank you Spork for the detailed recommendation. Based on it, and the pictures, I ordered her from Mandarake some time ago and am really happy with it. The pictures can't really do it justice! The combination of the gloss, the colour scheme, and her longer hair add up to something unique. I get the image of a supermodel entering through a doorway (after a long, tiring day, heh) when I look at her.

Since the introduction of this figure series in late 2012, there has been numerous iterations of the famous heroine Mori Yuki, who used to be the only female on the ship in the original series. However, Akira Yamamoto, the awesome ace fighter pilot who is now a great looking female in this new series, has so far received 1 release with 2 additional variations and 1 new version coming in July. As a reinvented character that speaks a lot of her popularity.

A lot of people (including myself) felt cheated by the great sample of the original release of Akira in her dark blue fighter outfit. The paint job on the production version was less that stellar! The glossy leather feel was gone, replaced by a matte finish and there were plenty of paint imperfections all over as well.

Well, I am here to say that this exclusive fixed all of the problems of the original release and realized the full potential of the awesome sculpt and paint.

First, the sculpt. Let's face it, this is a series designed for guys, so a little gratuitous fan service and sensuality is to be expected. This sculpt shows off curves to the max. I also expect this from a Fujiko Mine (Lupin III) figure and not a YGC figure with the deep plunging cleavage. There are lots of detail here as well, her keepsake necklace from her brother, pouches at her waist, strips on her flight suit and the safety harness that wraps around her nice and snug, these are all great detail that adds to her character. The helmet on her right hand is nice but it is bit dangerous just hanging there. The flight jacket is the same as the regular release, so it's nicely detailed with no surprises. The one single different part from the original release is the long hair for Akira which covers her left eye. This is what she looks like before she boards Yamato and it fits her ice cold look here.

Secondly, the paint. The decision to use red here is pure wicked genius. The orange strips work really well with the red to give a subtle contrast. At one point, I wish the stripes were yellow, but it would make her look like Asuka Langley from Evangelion, so now I like the orange just fine. The gloss is very nicely done to bring out the leather feel that was sorely missing in the original. The red just shows off so much more of her shapely figure like no other color can. The paint application is top notch for this exclusive as there are really no imperfections at all! If you have to get one version of Akira Yamamoto, get this one, you will not regret it!

(Sorry for the long winded review, I just have to get it off my chest)
