Hm, that's unfortunate. I've had boxes coming in from AmiAmi as well, and I got Eli from them myself. All of them arrived in mint condition. I've always thought AA tend to over pack, especially with the size of shipping box, which in turn increases shipping fee >< Eli did come in a really big box with lots of packaging paper as usual.

Most of the higher ends do arrive in excellent condition. She was my first Love Live! figurine that got damaged this severe if one is to count the exoskeletal box as important as content. Usually it's the SQs, EXQs, lessers that have the damage.

I don't mind the overpack. I've had a few box punctures via EMS that have saved many outer doll boxes because of that protection.

This Eli didn't have any add'l figurine boxes overhead as some of my PO figure counts tend to lean toward when I get over 7 in a single shipment. That's why I was so surprised when the lid damage was so apparent and because AmiAmi is good at quality brand new stuff.

4catdoorman (2 days ago) #311205595% of the new PO items I get from AmiAmi have box damage. It's part of the liability being a foreign collector outside Japan. What am I going to do: return the item account lousy box and wait 3-6 weeks shipping, settlement time plus pay shipping both ways? Not gonna happen: they know it; I have to tolerate it unless I go somewhere else and pay more in the process with no guarantee the quality box will be any better.
Most recent example is 12/2017 release of Ayase Eli -- Love Live! School Idol Festival -- 1/7 (Alter) which cost almost $160 USD before shipping. She arrived A#1; unfortunately the box was creased right & left front top edges with a full-blown tear in the center. It wasn't from overpacking. I suspect it was a known damaged carton and some cretin foisted it off in my combined shipping carton. Am I bummed? You bet! But there's nothing I can do about it over here: luck o' the draw.
Thus, it becomes real difficult to re-sell anywhere (thankfully, I like this little gal so much it's not going to happen) as any condition other than "used". Thanks, AmiAmi, make my day!
I can cite more examples via Amazon.co.jp and Tenso via Yahoo Auctions Japan where some sellers took the front plastic sheeting out of the boxes so they could photograph the contents better but didn't bother/take the time to remount the sheeting. Frustrating, damn well know it. And it wasn't obvious in their pix.
Collecting is a bit of a crap shoot no matter what it is one collects.

Dang, I'd probably be happy if only 5% of my AmiAmi packages came slightly damaged. As you can tell, I don't have many figures in the first place, though I can tell you that of the 8 figures I've received from them, be it for my brother, or my friend. Out of the 8, 3 of the boxes I've gotten came with creases on them. I almost feel like they reserve the lesser condition boxes for overseas buyers, that's just speculation though, so take my observation with a grain of salt. But it's always the figures that are for me it seems. Will I send them back? No, it's not worth the hassle. I'd sooner just buy another if I'm really intent on displaying the figure in its box. Especially if its something really cheap like a Nendoroid. Paying $250 for a figure though that was sold as having a mint condition box, and was already in the United States, knowing that something like overpacking the shipping box is what caused the damage is really heartbreaking. She is a really beautiful figure nonetheless, even though I hate her stupid Flügal face (residual movie hatred). But I do wish I could've displayed her NIB as I originally intended, cause I like to show off the art on the boxes.

Shiroune (3 days ago) #31103973Bought her for $250 a few days ago on eBay, new in mint condition box. Came in today, and I didn't think this was humanly possible, but over-packaging ended up ruining the box. As a NIB collector, this was very disappointing. Phat! Company's boxes really suck don't they? They seem so fragile. No wonder 90% of the listings I see on eBay of Shiro or Jibril have messed up boxes. Anyone else experience this?

skmm (2 days ago) #31120134Nope, her box is good for me too, no dents whatsoever ^^

Dang, must just be my typical bad luck then. She was bubble wrapped really nicely too, and there was no damage on the outside shipping box, but there was just a tad too much packing paper on top. I guess with the top of the box closed, it just put too much pressure on the back of the box and so it caved in and made the top crease on both sides of the sealed sticker. She's now currently my only scale I have out of the box.
