I've spent enough time in this hobby, spent tens of thousands of dollars and even worked this industry retail for 2 years. What we buy are massed produced items made in China. Not exactly the best place for quality control! Recently, I admit that the quality is gettting better. Respective makers are consistent in their products and reputations.

There comes a time or WILL come a time for all of us when something mass-produced isn't up to par with what we're paying for! I spent $200+ on a candy resin Kousaka Tamaki from hobbysearch that came cracked and looked like utter crap!

Point being, I would've gone to making resins because I'm growing increasingly unsatisfied with quality relative to cost. Resins and garage kits are the ultimate display figures! Even though they're not official, the quality paintjobs of the eyes are just breath-taking! Pick up a Replicant magazine or see garage kit magazines or seek them out in person! When you see it and pull out your wallet only to find its not for sale, you will understand!

Companies refuse to go near this level of quality. Be it legal, or illegal means. People will pursue quality!

Elixir (5 years ago) #1001701There is nothing wrong with e2046, there never has been, and they certainly aren't "unauthentic".

authentic
adjective
not false or copied; genuine; real: an authentic antique.

So, not authentic then. Having said that, their prepainted line is really well done.

Elixir (5 years ago) #1001701You are incredibly narrow-minded.

Does buying a garage kit at Wonder Festival support the original creators? No. Do the original creators receive royalities from official figure manufacturers like Alter/GSC? No, the names and brands are contracted out. There is nothing wrong with e2046, there never has been, and they certainly aren't "unauthentic".

This hobby revolves entirely around acquisition and enjoyment. People buy what they like. They are not thinking "oh, I won't buy that, because a small portion of [figure]'s purchase from Amiami/HS/HLJ's bulk purchase from the distributor might not influence the creators". Not everyone is simply in a position to buy garage kits, furthermore paint them. If e2046 sold out of Japan, nobody would mind.

For what it's worth, I don't own this GK or painted figure, but I think it's much better than the Gift PVC.

Why the hell WOULDN'T the original creators get royalties from figure sales? Where are you getting this information that the original creators get no royalties? >_>
The companies have to pay for the license to the creators.
Also e2046 are, sorry to say, ILLEGAL. They make recasts (ILLEGAL) of garage kits and sell them without the permission of the original Japanese sculptors.
Their paint jobs are better than PVC quality but it doesn't mean they aren't illegal...

Basically they are the figure version of someone (for example) selling bootleg poster prints of something. If someone was selling prints of MY ART without my permission I would sue. It's I L L E G A L.

llyndarae (6 years ago) #369516Supporting recasts from e2046 feels like a dis-service to the creators, please buy and support authenticity.

purutaruDo you know that on events like WonFest, the license holders grant the GK creators a waiver so that they can sell their kits without paying licensing to say e.g. Typemoon?
Refer here: tinyurl.com/6hs... (sorry it's in japanese.)

For me i personally will support the original sculptors because i wish to help them to continue creating new masterpieces with the funding they get from their fans and not lose heart at seeing others profit off their hard work.

However i think it really boils down to personal choice. If you wish to purchase recasts for any reason, please do so by all means. It's a free world ^__^

Happy collecting!

Finally, someone with an open mind! :)

Um.. if it wasn't for recasts i just wouldn't have started to buy kits at all, so in any case the original sculptors wouldn't see any of it anyhow. Now from the sculptors point of view, as if they cared if I started building kits or not if they won't get money from it. Granted.
But to me the price really is just to high. I don't know about the rest of you but I am building kits so I have something pretty standing on the shelf, I neither have too much money or too much time. If I had the chance to go to WonFes and buy the kits there, I would do that! But living on the other side of the earth doesn't help. I can't buy original kits online (why don't they just make a small webshop for international customers too?), and proxy services are charging me an arm and a leg (proxy fees are more expensive the more expensive the item is) that I am just not willing to pay (not to mention the sculptor - once again - won't see any of that).

However, why do they have to pay licensing fees? The doujin market is sort of big and I don't think every one of them is paying fees? Why are figures different?

She is being slated for re-issue by Principality of Kagutsuchino (kagutsuchino.sa...) at Wonderfest Winter 2011 @ 10k yen each.

I personally do not support buying recasts from companies like E2046 as i believe it does the original sculptors injustice. Here is some good reading for you folks on this:

Hope this had shed some light on the recast issue for you :)
