Talik (3 months ago) #51778750There are a variety of different representations of "futa" characters throughout media; it's equally common to see complete sets of both male and female genitals as it is to encounter "clit-dicks" - for lack of a better term - as with this figure, disappointingly enough.

I think "clit dicks" can be done well and not so well, I feel like this one falls on the side of "not so well" unfortunately. It looks pretty unnatural on this figure, just not good all around. It's a shame since this was a figure I was looking forward to, but I just can't bring myself to pay $200 with shipping for a figure where the "main event" isn't something I'm very happy with.

Talik (3 months ago) #51778750 "Celebration of transgender beauty." Couldn't have put it better myself. I always welcome your comments on figures depicting futanari and transgender characters as I very much share your appreciation for their aesthetics and desire to see the unique artistry of the transgender form captured and extolled appropriately. Room on that soapbox for one more?

Whiny LGBT representation soapboxing under the cut:

View spoilerHide spoilerI would be careful with this. The type of form celebrated in futa works is pretty fetishistic and unrealistic regarding real trans women, and I know from being part of the LGBT+ community myself that comparisons between real trans women and "futa" tends to float about as well as a lead balloon. The idea of a "top" or "active" woman with a fully functional penis is something heavily used in porn but much rarer in real life. It's also something most trans women are extremely upset to be "sought out" for. Telling a trans woman you're attracted to her because you've got a "futa fantasy" is about as welcome as a wet fart.

Japan as well is incredibly iffy on trans rights and even knowledge in particular. It's not an accident that so many characters in various canons seem to straddle the line between "otokonoko/femboy" and "pre-HRT trans girl" or "serious tomboy"/"pre-HRT trans guy", it's because even many more "woke" Japanese creators have basically zero understanding of what makes a trans person and a gender nonconforming person different.

Ban's stuff is pretty clearly meant to be fantasy futa and femboy stuff. His works are tagged with it, even the girls who don't seem to expressly have both genitals in some shape or form. Also, while the pictures are often fetishistic still and pretty much indistinguishable from heavy fantasy futa stuff, artists who specifically want to create MtF characters use a different tag and often explicitly state in their work that they're making MtF stuff.

This blending of fantasy and reality is an issue on the other side of things too (i.e. dudes with vaginas). Some artists pretty clearly reference reality based FtM stuff but there isn't really a wider cultural understanding regarding separating FtM portrayals from "c*** boy" ones, so rarely you'll see stuff that is meant to be a bit more of a blatant FtM character being lumped in with the typical "oh they were just born this way/got zapped by random vagina-giving magic" porn portrayals.

NuSoard (3 months ago) #51781298Would you believe that, despite seeing the figure every day and having switched to that part immediately upon receiving her, I never realized those vaginal folds were there?

Full penis + testicles + vagina underneath is probably my least favourite futa combo. <<;;; I wish I liked it more! It disappointed me that Dva had that going on but at least it is pretty subtle like you said. I've resigned myself to most portrayals having it though and it's not usually enough to make me drop a figure (unlike the badly done no-balls version). I do wonder about the currently in production figures though! I feel like the bunny girl might be more like Maoniang, and I'm not sure about the bride.

Always! :)
And...thank you. I enjoy reading your opinions here, as well.

That said, doesn't Dva fall solidly in the realm of "fetishistic" fantasy, though, as she possesses both sets of genitals?

Would you believe that, despite seeing the figure every day and having switched to that part immediately upon receiving her, I never realized those vaginal folds were there? To be fair, it is kind of subtle, but clearly I need to be more perceptive when appreciating my figures! It's cool that it's there, but wow, I had no clue. Haha.

NuSoard (4 months ago) #51539194Most of Ban's work doesn't portray futa, though. Dva and Maoniang, for example, are transgendered in the real world sense of the word. It's important to make that distinction, I think, because "futa" is a genre that's more about fetishistic fantasy, whereas the two figures I mentioned, huge breasts and anime features notwithstanding, are more realistic celebrations of transgender beauty. Not trying to stand on a soapbox here, but that's what sets them apart for me.

picture/1981973... it's actually that fusion, appealing to an idealized form of union that is older than the myths of Hermaphroditus and Aristophanes' satire on the "conjoined" ancestors of humanity, that fascinates me, so I couldn't have been happier when we got confirmation of her status as a full "futanari."
