Thank you for this. Very informative. Brilliant comparison pics. Head sculpts are the main focus for figures & statues I buy.

I think my mind is playing tricks on me, forcing me to like the newer version, because it’s easier to get right now, Haha.

Both do look good. I’ll take a few more looks at your pics.

Thank you again.

Here's a direct comparison of the heads (original on the left, new on the right):

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/08/04/2489265.jpeg
It's a bit hard to position them the exact same way, but the original really is fuller, which also makes his hair look less big on the sides (my correction from last time: the new one being leaner makes the actual face look smaller, but the head as a whole stays the same size!).
His expression is more pronounced, the paintjob has more varied tones (which doesn't come across well on my photos, but he has more of a natural blush on his cheeks e.g.) and the mouth is fuller. Things like the black line signifying his upper eyelashes also don't look as 'harsh' as on the new one.
The eyes are also grey, whereas the new one has more greenish eyes somehow, but it really makes no difference lol
However, here's another photo with a bit of a different lighting, to show that the new one looks good as well and the difference in paintjob isn't as obvious when you actually display him:
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/08/04/2489266.jpeg
I personally like the old head more, but the new one also has positives (his paler face still fits Vergil e.g., and I think his nose looks more prominent, which was always sth I remembered about DMC3 Dante and Vergil; plus, having the neck attached is nice of course). I kinda wish I could just combine the two lol
I just wish I had known about this change beforehand, so I hope this information helps someone else! ^^

Asher_Mir2 months ago#81053114I ordered the original head sculpt to compare the two irl, so I can't really say until it arrives. But just from pictures/videos I've seen, I personally think the original looked more in-character. Its paintjob also seems more detailed, which brings out his expression more.
Certain features like his mouth also look like they have a different shape, with the space between the nose and mouth being longer in the new one, the hairline being higher, and his upper lip less full. The head in general seems to be smaller than the original.
Like I said, I'll compare the two sculpts irl once the other one arrives, and correct anything I said here if it was false.
However, this new one still looks really good! It's recognizable as Vergil, and very handsome. I just didn't expect it to look different at all, so I can't help but feel a bit disappointed lol.
(His body is also different. From what I can tell, the old one used to have the neck attached and more detailed pecs, whereas this new one has no detailing on the chest and just looks like a doll's body + doesn't have the neck. So if you wanted to change his clothes, you'd have to think of that.)

You think it’s better?Asher_Mir2 months ago#80950018Little info for anyone who's interested:
The re-released version uses a different head sculpt. It's now seamlessly connected to the neck.

His big strand of hair is also shorter for some reason, and I also think the face is leaner, and the back of the head/hair is stretched more.. there's a different 'feel' to the head.

...and now they will sell a "luxury" version with additional armor pieces and a staircase/lamp post stand that lights up. :( Am praying they sell those extras to everyone that's already purchased Vergil.

Thanks for the reply!

I mean it looks pretty damn cool, exactly like I imagined it all those years, but like you, now that I had some time to think about it, 1/6 scale figures do not fit in with my collection: I've always been a 1/8 collector but as of late I am slowly making the shift towards 1/12 and 6 inch figures. Recently I sold my Hot Toys 1/6 Thanos Infinity War simply because he was waaaay out of scale with all of my collection; a marvelous piece of art nonetheless.
Still, I hope some manufacturer will make a 1/12 figure of DMC3/4 Vergil (even DMC5 is ok). Maybe 1000 toys? They've already made Nero ITEM #806198 and Dante, so maybe Vergil one day?

diamonddogs11 months ago#69818069Very late response, but it looks like they've got a 4 Vergil in the works. This is the only "confirmation" I've seen, but it's an official source. Now there is a chance they COULD MAYBE have been talking about their little Qbitz figure, since that one's branded as a DMC4 figure, however the quoted tweet specifically asks about 1/6 figures, so it'd make sense for their reply to not mention a distinction if they were talking about that. I had this Asmus 3 Vergil for a while but it drove me nuts that he doesn't scale with my other stuff (all the koto Dante's) and I think their 3 Dante just does not look good, and would therefore never own him to have matching figures, but Vergil was a great figure.
