Sekhmet (8 days ago) #71312245Thanks! I’ve been looking at everything for Bestas and PAX and PAX looks good for the depth I need but the width isn’t. Bestas might work but none of them have the weight capacity I need. I’ve been looking at Billy but they don’t seem right either. I may end up having to build my own which isn’t something I wanted to do but oh well. I have checked out detolfs before but their potential for breaking (even though I saw that was mostly user assembly error) isn’t something I want to chance.

I actually just bought some PAX frames and I'm going to try this custom job with them I found on StatueForums to increase their weight capacity. I'm going to try something a bit different, but still the same general formula.

jadekite22 (9 days ago) #71276029The most popular options I've gathered from watching other large-scale statue collectors seem to be the IKEA Bestas and PAX wardrobes, although the latter would need shelf reinforcements to support the weight in the middle. Moducase is a new company makes stackable acrylic cube cases, but I would advise waiting until you have some idea of what your permanent setup is before committing to those due both to the expense and that they're still working on offering a larger variety of sizes. If you use IKEA Detolfs for smaller anime figures, I've also seen collectors put their larger statues on top of those once they're lined up. That might make them a bit high up for viewing and dusting though.

Side note anyone know of any good heavy duty cases for large statues like these? I currently have four large statues, with at least three more on the way. I was looking at IKEA Kallax (cube shelving) and they look nice but the shelf capacity doesn’t seem promising. Kat is probably my widest statue and Figurama’s Kaneki v Jason is probably the heaviest at roughly 55lbs (Alucard will probably top this). Any suggestions?

Thank you for the responses guys, I really appreciate the input, it was very helpful. The extra pictures were great too. Ultimately I decided to order her. It really came down to my love for Kat and the Gravity Rush franchise. And the more I saw of the statue especially the new up close pictures, the more I liked it. I also fear we may not get another great GR Kat statue like this and I think I'd regret it later on if I passed this up. After all, the series is very niche and as much as I'd love a GR3, I'm not sure it's in the cards for Sony. Huge shame as GR2 is probably one of the most under appreciated games of this console generation.

jadekite22 (10 days ago) #71239687I also lost a little value because, as impressive as the engineering is, everything fitting so snugly to the point of touching means I'm less inclined to ever switch between the two portraits for fear of scratching the figure. All the base elements feel secure-in-place thanks to the magnets, but I can think of very few resin/polystone statues that would survive being bumped on a shelf and this isn't one of them, if that's a concern for you.

This also. I have no idea why the pieces are made to fit right up against each other so when you go to do anything with the statue you will inadvertently touch everything on it. That and how the pieces fit like a jigsaw where they are balancing off each other was just a huge misstep in my opinion. I agree about the portrait changing too, it’s a bit of a hassle with the way she’s on there.

Xenostar (11 days ago) #71164341All things considered, do you think shes worth the $750? I've been kind of going back and forth on this statue for awhile. I actually had it preordered at one time but canceled it in order to buy F4F Bowser instead. Seeing that she's still available though and officially released, I'm back to contemplating. Can you clarify a little more when you said the pieces fit together loosely? Is this something that could be an issue down the line with age or if perhaps the shelf shes on is bumped. Really love the look of this statue and Kat's face looks gorgeous from the pictures but $750 is alot of money with some of flaws you mentioned. I'm torn, just hoping to get an honest opinion. Thanks for your time.
I’ve uploaded some pics including what I’m talking about with the hand. Addressing how loose the pieces fit is a concern for me because literally over the weekend my one cat somehow got up on my shelf and knocked Dusty off his peg and of course he fell on the floor and his tail broke. I’ve already been in contact with sideshow and they said they’d help me so we’ll see. But when I say the pieces fit loosely, this is what I mean. A slight nudge can knock some pieces off, while others (the piece holding the elephant head for example) may fit a bit more tightly but because you have to balance it between two pieces it just doesn’t have a tight fit. In my eyes this is a major oversight and the instructions were small and confusing. Some pieces have a magnet in them but they’re pretty small (the tops of the buildings) so I’m not worried about them. Also, please enjoy a picture of one of my cats next to her, I have no idea if that was the one who broke Dusty though (she did break my mini Raven figure though ヽ༼ಢ_ಢ༽ノ)

As for if you should get this, all I can say is how I thought of it. Gravity Rush is one of my top five favorite games of all time, no question. I love Kat and I love Raven, the game just holds a special place in my heart and it just always brings a smile to my face. $700 is an insane amount of money, and I wish they had put Raven and Kat together on a statue for that price instead but at the end of the day I do love this statue. It has a lot of the aesthetics and fun atmosphere of the game and I love that. While not perfect I do think Kat looks lovely and I do love Dusty, and I’m excited for Raven. If you have the cash for it and you’re not satisfied with UC Kat or the figmas or the minis, then I would say get it. When she finally sells out I do imagine she will be hard to come by.

Hi, Xenostar! I uploaded some phone pics and wanted to offer my opinion as someone who regularly collects in this price range. I'll be the first to admit my top ten favorites in my collection aren't necessarily tens out of ten in terms of quality, but I think Kat truly deserves it. My copy didn't have any of the paint slop Sekhmet described, although I'm all too familiar with that from other translucent resin pieces I've owned. One of the heads however did have a sculpt defect, but I won't hold that against it unless the replacement I requested comes in similar shape.

Whether you'll get $750 worth of value is personal though. I was pleasantly surprised/relieved that Kat herself is sizable (about 1:5 scale, likely comparable to one of the smaller FREEing 1:4 figures, like Shiro) and doesn't get swallowed up in the composition in person. That said, the composition being so three-dimensional in its conception is part of the appeal. Some of my favorite viewing angles are in fact the odd ones, such as picture/1956573... where she is more or less being overtaken by the winding base, as it captures the crazy perspectives you'd actually see in the game. It's so well done.

Unfortunately, appreciating the statue in full view like this honestly requires a pedestal in the center of a room and I lost a lot of that once placing the statue on the shelf to be seen in the limited angles I photographed. I also lost a little value because, as impressive as the engineering is, everything fitting so snugly to the point of touching means I'm less inclined to ever switch between the two portraits for fear of scratching the figure. All the base elements feel secure-in-place thanks to the magnets, but I can think of very few resin/polystone statues that would survive being bumped on a shelf and this isn't one of them, if that's a concern for you.

From experience, I'd say once you go past the standard $500 for a simple Sideshow Premium Format Figure these days, the display requirements for some of the bigger/more complexly-engineered statues are more of a concern than the actual price tag. I guess companies like Prime 1 assume spending this much means collectors will treat these like centerpieces, but I couldn't begin to speculate how that works for their business model if their goal is long-term/repeat customers lol. This did get me to order Raven though, so I guess they know what they're doing.

Edit: Sideshow came through with a replacement for the regular portrait. Amazing customer service as always. Looks perfect. X)

Sekhmet (21 days ago) #70625585Got mine today. Overall very very nice and very pleased with her, especially being my first P1 piece. She’s not without her flaws though unfortunately. The paint on her body is sloppy in some places, her scarf is sloppily painted in some areas as well. There was some paint spots of her nail color on her actual hand, pretty noticeable against her skin. They made her body of translucent resin and this backfired in some ways. Because her skin is darker you can see where the paint was splotted on, and when using a flash on a camera this is very noticeable. When you look at her hand with light underneath it you can see where the paint globbed. Also some of her pieces fit very very loose which is a bit concerning. All these things are very annoying considering I paid $756 for her. I hope they do better with Raven. In the end though she’s lovely and they did a great job on her face and hair, very pleased with it.

Mine just shipped from Sideshow. I'll review it once it is delivered.

I also just checked the stock. The regular edition is sold out, but they still have the exclusive edition. They also still have Raven available.
