Axelsaurus (2 months ago) #31418120The old one is overall more "matte", the new one has more brilliant although softer colours, different eye-colour, the shading is less heavy, slightly different gloss on the lips, more refined eyebrows, the golden ornaments have a different tone. The highly modified AmiAmi pics somehow lessen the differences, but there's no doubt this is a recolor. I agree that it's definitely much more similar to the original prototype than to the old production figure, I just don't see why they should recycle it if they're gonna release a lower quality version comparable to the old one: that'd be a plain re-release. 8 years ago they weren't able to pull out a production figure completely faithful to the prototype, I think there's no such struggle today in this case. Look at the comparable re-color of Momohime. In general, Flare doesn't seem to lower the quality of the finished products: if there are faults they're the same of the actual prototype. Alter's takeover seems to have been pretty influential overall. That's why I told Aimaileafy that we need to wait until the new figure is released to see if it's better or worse than the Yamato version.
BTW the original GK by Bubba wasn't yet linked as a variant, both PVC's are based on it.

Ruttsu (2 months ago) #31418069OK, I found a few pictures of the old prototype, you can see it here at Wonfest at Yamato's booth: yaplog.jp/moain..., and here is the Amiami photo shoot of that prototype: web.archive.org... (unfortunately the links to the bigger images don't work because those images were not archived), after seeing those pictures, now I'm really having trouble to see the major differences between the old prototype and the new prototype, please point them out.

These are a few (relatively big) images from the Amiami's old prototype photo shoot:

PS: I just found one difference, the color of the eyes.

Ruttsu (2 months ago) #31416076Compare the prototypes, the old and the new, is there any major difference?
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/takarayama1248439384.jpg https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/lorddralnu1519326777.jpeg

That pic is just edited as a presentation image rather than a live photo. Anyway, the differences are the same, try to look more carefully. Also I don't understand why you think the new prototype should be a recycled version of the old one, that hardly makes sense. This most likely is a recolor comparable to ITEM #429201, just closer to the original.

The painting is obviously much better on the new one, it's both more detailed and with better colours. Also Flare, like Alter, doesn't loose pretty much anything from prototypes to production figures.

Ruttsu (2 months ago) #31284102These are pictures of the prototype. You need to wait until it's actually released and then compare the pictures of the new and the old figure, BTW, comparing the pictures of this prototype with the pictures of the old prototype I can't really see any major difference, except for color of the base...

How so?

Aimaileafy (3 months ago) #31283723I really wonder why they are doing a new version of this figure. I mean... what is wrong about the old one? And since this has its own entry, I guess its not categorized as a re-release. But besides of the base I really cant see the big difference?
Edit: OKAY forgot what I just said. I compared the pictures side by side and daaamn the level of details of the new one is... woah!!
