billowsandsmoke3 months ago#90004475I certainly agree that there's no reason to get aggressive. I do think a "this or that" conversation is helpful for folks like myself, however, since I'm only going to get one of these and I'm trying to make a decision. But again, it wouldn't be such a tough choice for me if I didn't think both figures were really good. Overall I like the paint and the texture on the MH one more than the F4F one, but I think the scale will make it look a little silly next to the Koto figures. There might be a quality concern for the F4F, but from what I understand, the MH also had stability issues with the wings? (Also, Koto doesn't seem to be rereleasing the purple Dark Magician and F4F has one in the works--maybe the F4F BEWD and DM would look nice as a set?)
Again, I do think comparing them is a valuable conversation since not everybody has the money, space, or desire to get both. But saying (you know, for example), that one figure is "junk" doesn't give anyone useful insight in making that decision, and it's disparaging to people who are excited for both figures or who are struggling to choose between them.

Agreed, the comments about the F4F or the MH figure being junk was over the line of polite debate. I agree polite discussion is helpful, I just think it was getting a bit out of control.

As for the wings, I have heard about that. I think that is the main issue quality-wise with the MH figure. I am not sure if the F4F will be one piece or if the wings will end up detaching and having a similar issue. Usually, F4F PVCs are one piece, but I know this one will at least have interchangeable necks and heads on certain versions.

Since I am planning to display the MH with my other, smaller dragons and Kaiba with the F4F at the top of my dragon shelf, the size is not an issue for me. I am including below some quotes and links to discussions about the MH BEWD and some of F4F's recent PVCs and re-releases. Since some seem to be debating if they want one or both, I thought this might be helpful.

The quotes below are about the problems with the MH wings from the comments. I only found two but there are probably more. Two concerned loose fit, one discussed tight fit.

I am not sure about MH's and their disctributors' CS for replacing figures with issues, but I have heard of more reluctance to replace figures from international buyers in general recently.

Dialga1 year ago#64567937Man this looks so much more gorgeous in person! So glad I caved and ordered this <3 but is anyone else having issues sticking the wings in? I seem to be struggling a lot with mine, every time I manage to get them somewhat in they fall apart if I so much as touch the figure... I really don't wanna risk forcing them in and breaking them or the figure, as they seem very fragile :c I know there is the heat trick that I've tried on some figures in the past that worked, but ideally I'd prefer to not try it on a $350 figure lmao

tokkiyokki1 year ago#65232336I absolutely love this figure! She is gorgeous in person.
However, I did notice that while one wing went in smoothly and sits snugly as it feels it should, the other was a bit loose or possibly too tight so that it didn't quite insert completely and would easily collapse if nudged -- I went ahead and risked manhandling it (very firm grasp but careful finger placement) to force the wing in and it's perfectly fine and sturdy now. It's not as fragile as it might seem.

Links to F4F recent PVCs. They re-released Link, and released Zelda and Amaterasu. Link seems generally to have been well-received. Zelda has some complaints about her sculpt but seems fine otherwise, as does Majora's Mask, though that one is too recently released to know for sure yet. I think those who have commented about QC on these have mainly said they were not quite as nice as some more expensive or well-known PVC companies like GSC and Koto, which I would agree with, since my Link is just a bit below my recent Koto figures in terms of paint complexity.

Amaterasu is the main one with QC complaints. Most people complaining had either paint issues with overall sloppy paint compared to more expensive PVC companies on the figure and base, leaning/breaking because the statue was not balanced and stabilized properly with such an action-oriented pose, very visible seamlines, and/or lighting issues. I am not sure why this one was so bad compared to the others. With the BEWD, I would not expect seamline issues since no seams are shown like with Amaterasu. Leaning also seems less likely due to the standing pose, but it is possible if the BEWD is top-heavy. Paint issues could be a problem, and the definitive version might have lighting issues. The paint and lighting issues are the most common ones I see on their resins that have problems, as well, and I think it may have something to do with which factory they have produce the figure, as some of their factories seem to produce figures with more issues than others.

The other problem people mentioned when ordering direct from F4F was returns/replacements, as some had an easy time and others struggled to get their problem fixed or it took months due to the amount they produce. However, I have heard getting them to agree to replacements has been easier recently due to better training of their CS team. Overall, I think they are better than most international companies for replacements, but maybe not as good as local companies if you have that option due to their slowness.

If you just want the regular, I have seen some people recommend buying F4F figures from a third-party to get faster replacements and potentially more of a discount after release. I am not sure if the latter would work with the BEWD since it may be more limited due to its size and sell out.

SkiaEsh3 months ago#89992357Agreed, I would prefer less arguing in the comments section about these figures as feels like people are starting to get too aggressive. I enjoy BEWD statues that aim for the realistic, anime, or cards look because I like variety in my collection when I collect multiples of the same character. solluxcaptor3 months ago#89991430I don't think the comments section should become this figure vs F4F Blue-Eyes... They're both great in their own ways and IMHO neither is an anime accurate BEWD but they're both good interpretations. I personally love this one because of the pearly effect on the wings especially.
Instead of pitting them against eachother, why not both?

Personally, I like and am getting both as mentioned. I am more concerned about the quality of the F4F due to PVC Amaterasu issues with paint and leaning. I also do not like the battle damage. Still, the white version with the resin base still makes a nice interpretation of the blue eyes cards that lack blue and looks really cool.

As for this one, I can see why some dislike the realistic look since it strays from the cards/anime. I like it since it fits in with my other dragons and its small size means it will have less of a footprint than the resin/pvc F4F version I have on order. I also agree with you that the pearly effect is really nice.

The F4F version is way more valuable than this overpriced junk, I am glad I didn't cave in and buy it and I was this close actually lol

Azaizer3 months ago#89566680Fair enough. It's really to each his own. I never really liked the MH version all that much as it doesn't look like the anime counterpart and also I felt it was just TOO SMALL for their asking price. It doesn't fit all that well with my Kotobukiya line. They kept advertising it to go alongside the figma, so eh.
I definitely feel you with MH for the size and price. Looking at the F4F figures some more I'm really digging that would fit in the kotobukiya line more. If I can I would get both MH and F4F.

Stylistically and pose/color-wise I still prefer the MH version but I'm happy to see BEWD figures being interpreted in different ways!

SkiaEsh3 months ago#89559348 I also think the GSC one is still the holy grail of BEWD, but it far more expensive and rare, so it cannot be compared directly.

I use to also feel the GSC was the holy grail and was also hunting for it. I was hoping that GSC would of pulled their head out of their asses and re-released it when the new Yu-Gi-Oh Darkside of Dimensions movie came out...but it ended up being a missed opportunity. So oh well, they won't get my money. Neither will someone in the aftermarket either, because after seeing this new one from First 4 Figures IMHO it blows the GSC version out of the water! It has a FULL DETAILED resin display base with effects AND it comes with LIGHT UP features! There is even a silver version?! My search is over! GSC Blue-Eyes who?! LOL

I'm excited for their Dark Magician too! Rumor also has it a Dark Magician GIRL is also on the horizon! Hopefully we see a Red-Eyes as well! Prepare your wallets Yu-Gi-Oh fans!
