Zephiria (3 months ago) #38019216Can this please be a 1/4. Don't downsize the boys Freeing, make a sexy 1/4 bunny boy please. Other companies like Megahouse and Kotobukiya are also making Ash, give us something unique.

In any other case I'd be glad for more variety for male figures, but in Ash's case specifically I wouldn't really be comfortable with him getting stuffed into a bunny suit (or seeing him in a sexualised position in general) due to...plot reasons. :/

Fictional or not, a character with a history like him getting the bunny treatment would just break my heart. And I do hope that the fujoshi community is better than the hentai community in that aspect. Otherwise I'm very excited to see so many companies picking up Banana Fish!!

Solarstormflare (23 days ago) #42345121that's fair, i went and rewatched the first episode and i get what you mean, the first time round i was so overwhelmed by all the new characters and cool animation that i didn't pick it up till like episode 3 so i was misremembering. Would you recommend the angel eyes artbook? This is the first i've heard of it.

If you are a fan of Akimi Yoshida's style or crave more Banana Fish in general (especially Ash x Eiji content), then yes, definitely! I sadly missed the pre-order for the reprint, which saddens me greatly. :/

There’s a YouTube video showing the contents of the artbook, you’ll be able to find it with just a quick search. From what I’ve seen in the video, the artworks are absolutely gorgeous and View spoilerHide spoilerhas tons of AshEiji artwork :’)). It’ll be worth getting imo if you’re a fan of BF! I’ve been looking to get it myself but sadly it’s oos on most major Japanese webstores, so I’m just going to pick it up from my local Kinokuniya sometime soon.

Fallen-Cloud (27 days ago) #42148474I mean Ash's history is very very obviously implied starting with Episode 1 (the way Dino talks to him, the way the other guys treat Ash SCREAMS sexual abuse) so I didn't think it was deserving of a spoiler. People interested in this figure will most likely know at least the bare minimum of Banana Fish.
View spoilerHide spoilerAsh does wear suits in the Anime more than once, but artwork featuring him in one with a lot of focus on it can mostly be found in the Angel Eyes artbook. Which heavily features Eiji too.
It just seems weird to me to make a ring figure of a character who so obviously has a romantic counterpart in Eiji, but this figure seems to go for the fangirl bait, which makes no sense. They could have easily made an Ash/Eiji combo instead. It wouldn't feel half as weird as selling Ash out as a ring holder figure.

Kiz-xo (25 days ago) #42237980Was totally hoping for an Eiji to go with him in this prototype but i guess they'll announce him separately eventually. This is perfect for their wedding This is just my opinion, but I think if they were going to make eiji they would have announced him already, so I don't have high hopes. By all means prove me wrong, though Freeing!

Right?? I think Freeing learned their lesson after the Doukyuusei figure, they were probably forced to make it a bust to save cost since they included two characters in one. And I think they were afraid to do two characters again this time around, in case it turns out to be unpopular as the previous figure in the line...

In any case, I’m reeeaaally crossing my fingers that they’ll make Eiji, if not the ring (to be included or not) would look rather awkward on just Ash alone ^^; almost like we’re the ones to marry him or something

Fallen-Cloud (26 days ago) #42151887It's neither a wedding figure (like Sonico) nor a boy's love figure (like the other ring figure busts in this Freeing series). It's just Ash, a 17 year old traumatised kid. In a suit. As a ring holder figure with no Eiji to be seen anywhere. And that makes me go ???. I'd probably still get it myself if the price is reasonable since the pose looks great - I just simply think that the thing they are trying to market here (the ring bonus) feels very out of place.
That’s true. The fact that they decided to make this figure part of the ring series is indeed weirdweirdimho there’s not much they can do with this whole “ring” concept besides reserving it exclusively for figures in pairs. It would at least make sense if it was just a normal figure of Ash in a suit with no other inclusions. I also don’t think the suit necessarily makes him seem OOC, since he actually wore it at one point in the series.

While I do think that this was mostly designed to attract fangirls, I don’t think the figure itself is necessarily bad. I wouldn’t associate too much of his traumatic history with this figure — like another user said, the pose was possibly inspired by one of the illustrations in the Angel Eyes artbook. It’s also worth nothing that the different ways Ash/Eiji were portrayed in the artbook are also mostly OOC (which is completely fine) and I feel that this figure is to be seen the same way as those illustrations. It’s really nothing to sweat about.
