Rainbow Dash has tanned skin! Clearly the best of the My Little Pony BISHOUJO statue line.

Drizzyrissy (1 day ago) #51888094I’m definitely a huge fan of MLP, but even so, I’m glad they didn’t use their pony skin tones. I feel like then there would be no distinctions of colors; pinkie would be a blob of pink, fluttershy would be a blob of yellow, RD would be a blob of blue, etc. Plus they added the real ponies too, so having natural skin tones makes the girls look more like the human versions and separates the pony from the girl

That's great! If you're a big fan and you like the designs then they did a good job. I don't dislike them myself, it's just that the tan skin instead of a blue-ish white gives me a cosplayer vibe rather than "X character in human form" in some sense. Maybe the tan fits her character and it's a good representation of her, I wouldn't know but it's all cool either way.

Also, I wouldn't want them to be 100% the color either, just a hint of it like in the art above is good enough. But if it's true that the actual figures will simply have normal skin then that's a bit of a bummer for me. Still very cute designs though!

BigSharkZ (1 day ago) #51887123There's no problem whatsoever. Like I said I have no interest in the show or anything nor do I think the design is bad, I just thought I'd point it out. If anything I'd just find it cooler if they all had the exact same color as the pony form to stand out more.
When I say "slightly white" or "close to pure white" I'm saying the skin color as base is white (as in Caucasian) but going towards the literal color white. So yes, she is still white in both senses of the term, I'm simply stating that in her case, she is close to being pure white whereas others have a shade of another color mixed in.
That's interesting, but also kind of boring to me. I think it'd be cooler if they all had less realistic skin colors but I don't speak as a fan so I might be in the minority here.

chrisychris (3 days ago) #51766503The point is they pass off as normal white girls, so what’s wrong with a normal tan girl? The color hue is not as apparent in the prototypes other than AJ and PP.
How is she slightly white? She’s full on literal white. The comparison of slightly white only makes sense when you take white skin as the base skin tone, but it’s not.

Drizzyrissy (2 days ago) #51823342In the picture, AJ and pinkie are the only ones who have close to pony skin. But in pinkies prototype, she has regular skin tone, not pink at all. I saw her in person at NYCC. I’m guessing they’re going to do the same with AJ, or maybe give her more olivey tones to match the yellow. Rarity is just very very pale, like some people I know who can never venture in the sun without severe burns lmao But overall I think Koto is going for natural skin tones regardless of what Yamashita draws, and knowing them, Dash probably won’t be as tan as this picture which is very unfortunate

BigSharkZ (3 days ago) #51758052White as in the literal color white.. not white skin. Take a closer look and you'll see that Rarity is extremely close to pure white, Twilight Sparkle is more saturated (closer to a shade of red / purple) and Fluttershy is closer to yellow. If you still can't see it, put the picture in any drawing / photo editing software and use the eyedropper tool on their skin.

The only ones I see with a color hue are Pinkie Pie and Applejack. The rest pass off as normal white girls with some blush, so a tan skinned girl shouldn’t be so confusing for you.

BigSharkZ (3 days ago) #51669217I have no interest in the series whatsoever so this isn't too important, but I'm wondering why does she have tan skin? If you look closely, each design has a skin color similar to the pony's while remaining realistic.
Applejack has slightly orange skin, Rarity has slightly white skin, Pinkie Pie has slightly pink skin, Twilight Sparkle has slightly purple skin and Fluttershy has slightly yellow skin. Following that logic, shouldn't Rainbow Dash have slightly blue skin? The tan itself isn't bad but it just seems random.

I don't think it matters one bit what part of a figure people like, especially if it's something like skin color where white is the vast majority. It isn't surprising, or an issue, to have people enjoy that and/or anything else about the figure.

Fair enough. I just find it sad how it's the only asspect some people appreciate. But I guess I'm one not to buy a figure based on the skin tone only and instead look at the design as a whole ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
