My path towards collecting figures: I've always been into videogames, and with the Dreamcast, and in particular, Shenmue, this led me to become interested in Japan. Along the way somewhere I also got really into Studio Ghibli, mainly through friends also into them. Then, in May 2010, I finally went to Japan. I'd gotten the chance through work and jumped at the chance to go - mainly to Akihabara to search for retro games and also my recent (er, past five plus years) passion for shmups. Whilst there I was astounded by the figures I saw. I didn't buy any as I was travelling with just a backpack round Japan for three more weeks but did buy some gashapon (to feed my Shenmue needs since I didn't go to Yokosuka). When I got back I looked up the anime from which my favourite figures I'd seen came from. Then got hooked on anime series (starting with K-ON, which fitted with my other main interest - music). And promptly started ordering figures, starting with Alter's Hirasawa Yui and then progressing, with my spending limit getting higher and higher...
