But to answer your question, it just depends. If you're buying thru MFC then PayPal goods and services will protect you. As for trades, I suppose you just gotta make sure you're trading with a reliable user

Haha yeah I love that AX gets larger every year too! When July comes around let's organize a meetup there :D I've actually never been to a gathering or panel ever at AX. Shocking I know lol. I've only been too the larger events like the IA concert and Aimer/Fate event last year. I literally spend the entire con at the exhibition hall burning all my cash. Though I plan to have self control this year and try not to impulse buy anything since things are typically marked up there too. I do hope that redjuice and supercell and Egoist would visit someday. If any of them do come to the US, AX is for sure the con they would make their US debut at so fingers crossed!
