YuRiPa (3 months ago) #36543377The chance whether or not your package is caught by customs seems to vary per country, so that depends on where you are from.
Why they changed SAL small packet to Air small packet I dunno, you have to ask them. Might be that SAL shipping is not available for your country or maybe your country is affected by the SAL problems that seem to occur for packages that travel through Amsterdam and Paris? In the latter case, you cannot use SAL shipping until the problems are solved, but since that might take a while (if ever) many shops just choose to disable SAL shipping.
Yes, Air small packet will be more expensive than SAL small packet (I assume, never used SAL small packet) and it will most likely be a lot faster.
    Thank you.

Now I am confused. I ordered with SAL/Air ONLY, and they shipped it that way. But now all of a sudden I got the SMS that it's delivered by DHL?

tharglet (3 months ago) #36545927If you have more than one order you'd like them to consolidate into one box/envelope or the shop sent the item(s) in an overly large package, they can repackage stuff for the repackaging fee. If you buy a forwarding only ticket, and it turns out the shop went way overboard with the packaging, you can get them to upgrade it to a repackaging ticket (looking at you, Suruga-ya). Or they may do this automatically when faced with a large box that's not very full... as the extra ¥1000 can work out cheaper if it goes from being parcel-sized to small packet-sized.
BiJ will undervalue if you ask. Just attach a note to the ticket with the value you'd like on your package. This does limit your insurance on the packet to the declared value and is, well, illegal, but it's your choice. Some countries don't really care, others like inviting people to customs offices.
I am gonna try it with Amazon JP. They don't have many Doujinshi but a great selection of Manga & Magazines! Then I will need BIJ's help.

anyone knows/familiar at what time Mandarake updates stock on their online store?

I have observed that the first update occurs at 12 PM Tokyo Japan time GMT+9.
I don't know for sure, but the updates on stock of items is irregular.

Perhaps you could send an email to them as ask, international@mandarake.co.jp

Just wanted to ask a question.
I recently purchased a figure from Mandarake Umeda, and while the figure was stated as "Opened, box damaged", it arrived with a badly stained sword accessory (which I could not overlook, because the accessory is white and the stain marks are long lines of black).
It's the first time this has happened to me, my past purchases have all been received well, whether opened or unopened.
I sent an e-mail to the Mandarake Umeda store yesterday, and was just wondering what's their speed in reply to these sort of complaints? And what would they usually do about this?

Yes they will, just don't extend the payment deadline of 5 days from receiving the final invoice which includes the shipping.

This has happen to me too, when I contacted mandarake with pics, they said when shipping out the figure they didn't find such paint transfer. For me, the paint must have liquefied due to heat during the shipping and got transferred when I was removing the plastic on the figure. Also their disclaimer says that opened/used figures are sold as is, and may have minor imperfections, something like that.

I repaired it myself, using magic eraser and Propanol.

Do share with us the update provided by the store on your case.

I received an email from the store last night. They apologized for the late reply and the defect, and will be sending an unblemished sword accessory over.
    Great customer service right there.

tharglet (6 months ago) #32157925You don't have to pay immediately - if you complete the order, you can simply kill the tab/navigate away, and you'll have the same payment window as the other stores (5 days).
Did this once, as I wanted an order modified to airmail myself last year, as I wanted to ensure it arrived before I went on holiday.

I tried this and it works. When I reached the page where I have to input my card details (I'm paying with CC), I go to new tab and check my cart, and order from SAHRA is gone, and the items I ordered are sold out. Then I checked Order Status and the order from SAHRA is there, with status "Awaiting Payment" and shipping fee already determined. Checking e-mail, I got email of order confirmation and "The payment due date is 5 days after this invoice was sent.". I close the original tab, and checking "Order Status" page and it's still there.

    THANK YOU VERY MUCH again!

    Hi everyone,

Does anybody know is there any difference buying stuff from japan online after they have signed that JP EU trade deal?
It seems customs in EU still calculate vat and their additional expenses as usual.

The trade deal was about tariffs, not VAT. So it mostly affects shops more than individuals. Depending which country you're in there may not have been duty on figures. Some people may get large monthly orders a bit cheaper though!

(Also why the Mandarake thread for this..?)

Thank you for your explanation it confirms what I thought about this trade deal earlier.
Customs adds VAT21%+9EUR for each box in my country.

I guess because it hurts most when I buy from Mandarake :) .

I don't know what it is with Mandarake recently - but their QC seems to be on the downward slide recently. I never had problems with any of my orders last year. This year, however, have seen me receive three defective figures (the damages are significant but not mentioned at all in their item description). Which stumps me because they used to mention even the littlest form of damage eg. a slight scratch on the base etc.

I have received replacement parts for the first two, but have not received a reply for the third case. And it's been over a week. What's happening to this store?

If I pick SAL postal parcel will they send it as a small packet if I ask for it in order notes?
    I'm from Poland for reference.

I had the same issue with two figures I ordered this year and with one other few years before. I didn't mind it back then, because their track record was so good, but when you think about it, I should've complained or said something instead of going "meh, i knew it was second hand".

I did complain to them once because an important part of the figure was missing but they insisted that the item was unopened and it must've been manufacturer's fault and I should talk to them. I couldn't insist anymore after that. It was the first and last time I had ever received an item like that, from anywhere. It was upsetting, but I let it go.

And there was another time (this year) I bought a small figure and the shiny coat of paint on it was smearing everywhere. It was also second hand and not mentioned in the product page.

There was also one time few years ago that a figure came with a weird paint defect on its skin, almost like it had been left out in the sun or something. I was able to wipe it off mostly, but if I knew how to recolor figures, I would. This wasn't mentioned in the product page either, I was just happy to find it at such a nice price.

    **

On a related note, this summer I had a chance to visit a few Mandarake stores and my friend sold few of his items that were still in box. I haven't seen the whole process, but from what I could witness, the floor where people could sell their stuff was quite crowded and there were several lines, each line dealt by a different employee. The employees seemed very careful with their work. However, I haven't seen how they check the items, they do that as they determine the price and call you back, and I was on another floor by that time.

If anything, my guess would be that by pure chance, the people who checked the items we bought were not careful enough or thought that the items were good enough and they got placed in the system that way. The people who enter the items to their database could only be getting the data from them and not the see the actual item, but that's just my guess :/

Select radio button for SAL Postal and mention in the comments section to ship via Registered SAL small packet. Just recently, did the same for a purchase.
